I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at Staromáček, located in the heart of Prague's Old Town. The establishment appeared to be a classic tourist trap, delivering mediocre food and service that left a lot to be desired.
I opted to sample one of their specialties: a chicken breast accompanied by bacon, salad, and a basic sauce. The dish, despite sounding enticing, was disappointingly dry, and its lackluster presentation didn't meet expectations.
My discontent escalated when it came to billing. The menu made no mention of a service fee, yet to my surprise, it was included in the final bill. The food and two beers came to a total of 725 CZK, but the waiter insensitively demanded a total of 800 CZK. This blunt request for additional payment was off-putting and seemed to underline the restaurant's regard for its customers as mere profit centers.
The service as a whole was unimpressive, only adding to my negative experience. The staff's inattention left an impression of prioritizing profits over providing a gratifying dining experience to tourists.
Considering the quality of the food, lackluster service, and the feeling of exploitation, I found the pricing at Staromáček to be unjustifiably steep. Paying an exorbitant sum for a meal that fell short in both taste and overall experience was disheartening.
In closing, I find it hard to recommend Staromáček to those seeking an enjoyable dining experience in Prague's Old Town. The mediocre food, unenthusiastic service, and the treatment as nothing more than a source of income make it difficult to justify the restaurant's high prices. I would recommend potential diners seek other establishments in the area that prioritize quality and customer...
Read moreThere was metal in my food and they charged me extra. And the staff loudly argued with us.
After just starting my first meal I noticed that there was a metal wire, like from a wire scrubbing brush, in my food.
We told the waitress and she offered to replace it with a new one. The waitress came back and told us that they were out of that meal but would replace it with another similar option. The similar option came and I ate it.
When we got the check we were charged more money than we expected. It turned out the replacement meal was 40CZK more. We complained that we shouldn’t be charged extra for metal in the food and expected a discount but at least wanted fair treatment and to pay what we originally ordered. The waitress began to loudly argue with us that 40CZK was “nothing” and “it’s just $2”.
The argument continued and the staff obviously didn’t care about how I could have chocked on the metal, not to mention that the food was contaminated. In the end we didn’t get any money off and still paid the extra money.
In our opinion this restaurant is a shame to the beautiful city of Prague and the staff at this restaurant should be ashamed of their service...
Read moreThe worst experience you can have. Almost entire service for replacement and food about average. Waiter's English was incredibly poor and she brought dish we didn't order. When I could overhear her talking German I realized they didn't hire her because of her English. Taking into consideration that I was showing her what I am ordering with the finger pointing on the menu and reading out loud that is incredible. She said - ' so I have to pay for dish again yeah? ' and took beef we didn't order then her colleague brought it back 5 minutes later, threw on the table and said 'you ordered this'. Right. Not to mention that we my fife ordered starter and at the same time I ordered main dish. Then 10 minutes later she ordered main dish. 15 minutes later they brought her starter and her main dish. Mine 30 minutes later so if she didn't share I would be looking at her eating and waiting 30 minutes. When we were about to leave new person came and he took the dish!!! and when we asked for bill he mentioned he was able to cancel the dish. Now that is impressive. Then he said we can leave money for the service...
And 60 Euro for all of this. Just don't go there....
