Hippopotamus — Restaurant in Paris

One of the most disappointing meals we've had not only in Paris but anywhere.

The bread they served us was so hard that I could knock it on the table and it sounded like wood on wood.

The waiter struggled with English which I understand as it is a different country however he should be able to know the difference between nuts and seeds. We ordered the goat cheese tartine which the English menu said was roasted seeds, my flatmate with a severe nut allergy was worried and decided to check with a waiter. He came over and said that yes there were nuts. My housemate was about to go and make himself sick while I asked to speak with someone with a better understanding of English. The manager confirmed it was indeed seeds and the waiter was incorrect. The manager walked away laughing.

Obviously this put a dampener on the meal, which didn't help was the unseasoned meat, the heaviness of the food, the overcooked fries and the lack of an apology from the business.

The final nail on the coffin was that while I was dealing with an oncoming bloody nose and couldn't find any tissues that weren't on tables my flatmate had to explain that we did not order the dessert that they had suddenly started preparing. Yes there is a deal where you can get a starter, main and dessert but no, we did not order it.

Overall horrible communication from the restaurant, I expected better in Paris and any of the Asian restaurants in the area would have been better, unfortunately my flatmate has an extremely sensitive stomach and didn't want to risk it. Despite appearing a bit understaffed, the service was commendable. The staff was friendly, attentive, and respectful of our schedule. We mentioned that we had a show to attend, and they made sure to get everything done quickly without compromising on the quality of service.

The place was nice and cozy. My fiancé and I uber to get here since it’s a little cold for us. I was excited to come here since it’s our first night in Paris. It took us awhile before our server comes in. Our server who didn’t introduce his name came in later after 20 minutes or so asking us what we would like to drink. We ordered water and soda. 30 minutes passed by, he brought the appetizer but didn’t say anything. We tried to get his attention before leaving us by asking the water and the soda but it seemed like he doesn’t want to talked to us. After another 20 minutes or so, our main dish came in. It was cold and the food was okay to be honest. Another server brought it up to us, she (another server) was calling our server because at that moment, we asked for our drinks. She ended up handing it to us. (Because our server was ignoring her too) My fiancé ordered creme brûlée at the beginning but we never got it. We decided to pay in the front and leave. Overall, the service was bad. I don’t know if you (the male staff, tall and has a curly hair) having a bad day that time but you definitely ignored me and my fiancée.
