I chose this restaurant because the reviews said that the food was good and that the waiters were very friendly and in fact, contributed to your evening. That was not my experience. I don't know if they don't approve of women dining alone, or perhaps American women? I went to the restaurant earlier in the day to make a reservation for myself. Ludwig, a waiter at lunch, took the reservation and was very welcoming. Unfortunately he was not working at dinner. When I arrived for my reservation, the host with disdain said,"a reservation for you?" I told him that the reservation had been written down in the book and he found it. Despite the restaurant being largely empty at the time, he set a place at a small table where an American couple was dining. He told me they were full tonight and I was to join them at their table. They were shocked, as was I. After asking several times to have a table of my own, he seated me outside. I was left alone unattended for a long time. Finally the waiter came over and asked me for my order. They must have wanted me to leave quickly, as the steak that I ordered was delivered to me within a 3 or 4 minutes of the order being placed. I had told whether that I wanted steak frite. The steak was very raw, stringy, tough and inedible. No sauce, definitely and definitely not the steak frite that I was expecting. I had to ask for water. When I asked for a good red wine, the waiter ignored me and hustled over with a glass and a bottle of the house wine. It was chilled and not good. I was so looking forward to dinner at the restaurant based on the reviews and how friendly Ludwig had been earlier in the day. I had precious few nights in Paris, and I regret that I wasted one of them on this restaurant. I am a mix of disappointed, sad and angry. I would suggest that you stay away from this restaurant, especially if you are an American woman dining alone. I very calmly expressed my feelings to the waiter and he could care less. I must say this experience was totally a contrast to all the other experiences I had in Paris. I have been welcomed and treated so graciously throughout my trip. So this treatment was jarring and unexpected. Such a waste of what could have been a...
Read moreNever ever in my 15-day Paris trip had I encountered a restaurant like this one with such a racist service and terrible dining experience.
Racist Service This was my second visit. The first time, they claimed to be fully booked and wouldn’t accept walk-ins, which I understood. So, I made a reservation. When I arrived with friends, we were asked to share a table for four with two strangers. While I’m okay with sharing, it made the reservation feel pointless. (Personally speaking, we have way more common table-sharing culture back in Hong Kong, if you know that).
I arrived ten minutes early, and the restaurant was mostly empty at 7 PM. We were seated but received no water or menu information until the waiter came to take our order. Meanwhile, French-speaking customers received better service, with waitstaff engaging them in conversation.
At the cashier, an older waiter ignored me to take a phone call and assisted another customer, even offering to help the French lady with her coat. I was left waiting, despite having multiple bags and a coat myself even though i was indeed settling payment. You know I couldn’t complete the payment without ur entering the amount in the POS machine….It felt like the disregard stemmed from my not speaking French, making me wonder if this was due to racial bias or simply a lack of respect for non-French speakers.
Terrible Dining Experience After ordering, we received one starter and two mains AT THE SAME TIME, which felt more like fast food than a proper meal, especially given the double or even triple prices.
Pretty much sure that the food was pre-made and just reheated, as they didn’t even ask how I wanted my lamb chops cooked but served within a short period of time. (Similarly to the time of waiting where you take out the proceed food from fridge and “DING” it like just at home.)
Overall, they didn’t provide an English menu, which is fine. Trust me! This is NOT a must! Nobody would expect any English if they really wanna enjoy an authentic and local French restaurant. However, if you don’t speak or read French, it means no one would entertain and not welcomed since you’re not “Parisian” enough to...
Read moreI visited this restaurant with my Girlfriend for dinner. We had been in Paris for a couple of days and, since this place is at the top recommendations in the blogosphere, we decided to make a reservation for 8pm. We arrived in time but not very hungry. Since the reviews indicated that the servings were quite large our plan was to order one main course and share. The room was empty, but we were seated next to three other couples in what I would defined as the "tourist" corner: we plus a couple from Singapore and another from Australia. The rest of the room was empty. I ordered one dish and mentioned that it was to share. The waiter refused and said that we had to order two main courses. I found this to be quite rude and should have left the place right there, but since I had already ordered a beer we decided to stay and take the leftovers home. I order a beef stew. My girlfriend asked for a recommendation, he suggested a lamb stew. Her dish was super huge. The stew comes with beans. What I found surprising was how the waiter, knowing that we wanted to share one dish, ends up recommending one of the heaviest meals in the menu. Found that very unprofessional. Finally, we asked to take the leftovers home, and la piece de resistance, we were refused, they simply don't do it. What the heck? first place I have been in years where they refuse the client to take the leftovers home. Although the food was tasty, and the servings large for the price, I found the service quite rude and uninviting for tourists. My recommendation, avoid this place at all costs, they don't...
