Café Potager — Restaurant in Strasbourg

Humanity is more important than money. Unfortunately this isn’t the values of this coffee. I came there every day, never had a problem, everything was ok. But today I came, I made my order, the usual, and waited to my order. I opened my laptop and started to work on my stuff.

The girl who took the order was new and she made a mistake in my order. The coffee that arrived was not what I ordered. Ok, it happens. I told her and she was very nice and said she’ll check. I said I’ll pay the rest if needed, because I know the cafe that arrived is a bit cheaper then what I ordered.

The new nice waitress came back, said I need to pay more 0.40 cent. I said no problem but I have only credit card. The waitress said I need to pay inside. So I took my computer and all my stuff, I didn’t want to leave it alone, and I went to pay the rest. It was uncomfortable, but there is nothing I could do..

At the cashier desk, the shift manager was waiting for me. She immediately said “no credit card “ She didn’t even apologise for the mistake!!! I never saw someone so not educated. Basic polite manners!! You made a mistake, you apologies! It’s an act of kindness. Never mind, I don’t really care.

I told her I don’t have 0.40 cent by cash… She told me to go to the bank to take money… is she serious?! I’m sitting in the cafe, already paid… and I will go to the bank now to Withdraw money for 40 CENT?!?!

I’m regular costumer. I’m coming EVERYDAY!!! so you don’t want to give me my order because of 40 CENT?! I’m coming every day, she knows it, I could pay her next time. But no.. because money is more important then being human.

Finally I left...

Very cool atmosphere, very good coffee. Had breakfast with my mother and my son and we really liked it! Only a 4 star experience because of one negative issue:

We were asked explicitly for a tip at the moment of ordering. Not only is this not a cultural expectation in France, it made us uncomfortable. We had not tasted any of the food and had not at all been able to witness the quality of the service to have any idea if a tip was warranted. It juste made me feel like it was some kind of test and the service given would be worse if the tip was lower?

In the end the service was very efficient and you could see that the whole team rallied to manage a big surge in clientele expertly. Still, I wanted to point out how negatively the experience can be impacted when you practice aggressive...

Tried today their eggless carrot cake, white infusion tea, and filter coffee. Everything tasted super delicious and good. Really a pleasure to visit this place as they have lot of vegetarian and vegan friendly options. The staff was polite too. Only problem was that the indoor sitting was very full and some of the middle seats were over-occupied by people simply for putting their jackets and bags. The staff could have helped us by politely asking those people to make some space by taking off their belongings from the seats, however the staff didn't. This part of service can surely...
