Tapas Berlin El Colmado Alexanderplatz — Restaurant in Berlin

First of all, I’ve worked in the restaurant business as a server so I understand mistakes can happen.

We were mistakenly charged for the wrong bill and the server said that she would have to charge me again and hopefully the wrong one would likely come off my credit card overnight but she wasn’t definite about it. I said “that’s annoying“ because it did annoy me but charged my card again. Should I have just smiled and take it?

As I was walking out she said in front of other customers across the restaurant “can I give you a tip?“ and she told me “to be nicer to servers!“. She also said I’m an engineer and was up since 5am etc. I think that was very rude and really unnecessary when all I did was express my annoyance for having to swipe my card twice. I was more annoyed at the situation than actually at her. It’s not my problem that she’s unhappy with her job really and she shouldn’t take it out on paying customers. Also I gave her a 15% tip on the first wrong check. I also had a long day and was up since 6am too and don’t think I deserved to be treated with a nasty attitude, and berated in front of the whole restaurant like this. I also have the add the patatas bravas weren’t fresh and smelled like garbage. Never going back...

Overpriced food and slow service. First off, the food: The Iberico Jamon was so chewy I had to spit some out.. They really need to learn how to cut it properly. The shrimp tasted good but almost €13 for 5 relatively small shrimp is way too much, sorry.. The tortilla de patatas could be less expensive as well, but ok. I also ordered pimientos and an hour later was told they didn’t have any more left… which brings me to the next issue: the service. It took them over 25 minutes to bring out 2 glasses of white wine, then another 10 minutes to bring out a bottle of still water without glasses.. Additionally, this restaurant is very small and uncomfortably hot. There are no tables and chairs, only barstools and high tables available, which get quite uncomfortable after a while. They try to create an authentic Spanish atmosphere but are utterly unsuccessful, unfortunately. Not recommended and I will...

Food was fine, nothing super fantastic. Not much in the way of selection. Took forever to get our order taken and then was told two of the things we wanted weren't available. Why not tell us what's not available right when we were seated, so we don't waste time deciding?? Ordered a second wine, never came. The second part of my food (order placed after the waitress told me what I wanted wasn't available) also never came... Finally we asked and it seemed the waitress thought it had already come out. Nope. One waitress for over 20 tables on a Saturday night is stupid. Makes me laugh that the response from the owner on here to negative comments is "but we give food to hungry children!" That's nice, but if you actually have food service, you'd be able to give...
