The staff here are unwelcoming and unprofessional, which really brings down the overall experience. The only redeeming quality is the physical bar itself, which has some character. While locals may refer to this as a “punk bar,” it doesn’t live up to that reputation. In fact, the environment feels far from authentic. It’s hard to take the “punk” label seriously when there’s a sign declaring “this is a cashless society,” yet the business still profits from selling beer—a clear contradiction that feels more like mainstream capitalism than anything countercultural.

Whatever you do don’t ask the super hip bartender if he’s from America. Innocently asked him that bc he clearly spoke perfect English as well as Dutch, was just trying to strike up a convo. I am also an American who is embarrassed by America and probably would have gotten along with him well but after that it was clear he had judged us already and was being rude. We hade a fantastic evening here last saturday and felt right at home. We were on a bachelorette weekend trip in Amsterdam and the bride loves punk/rock/metal music. Luckily I found this place online beforehand and we fortunately got a table for all 8 of us. Even though half the girls are not into rock music they enjoyed the evening very much thanks to the chill and friendly atmosphere.
