Booked this food outlet, The Black Dog, Amsterdam and it was not the best at all, the guy who served us was run off his feet and seemed to be the only one working, if you don't flag him you would be waiting ages...we flagged him after 15min of no service, ordered food and drinks, 4 of us, 1 of us had the nachos which i was told was fine, 1 a burger also ok, some of us had soup, also ok, myself and another had the beef & ale pie with chips, let me tell you, the pie was dry, no gravy just steak and peas, the pastry was burnt, the pie wasn't even a pie, it was more like a pastie/steak bake (Greg's style), the so called pie was so salty, so much so it was actually inedible, there was a boat of gravy on the plate but it was like rain water, it had flavor but was just runny as hell, couldn't poor that on no food, or my chips would of swam away, I'd give the chips 3 outta 10, bit salty and slightly hard/overcooked, now for the customer service, I asked for the manager who came over and when I told him the steak bake/ fake pie was salty and over seasoned he said with chest " sorry about that guys" and walked off, so I went to pay at the bar and asked the manager if he could do something on the bill regarding the unsatisfactory uneaten food, (all I ate was brocolli and picked at the steak bake, left half and ate no chips, other party ate the brocoli and mash and left the steak bake), this dish was around €23.50, and all I asked for was a little discount and the manager replied " no you have to pay the same as everybody else, I tried it this morning and its fine" 1. He can't take constructive criticism and 2. Doesn't know how to deal with customers in the correct manner, 3. All he cared about was money, 4. He was unwilling to address or discuss any of my issues, 5. No customer service skills and lack of interaction. All I got was a stern, hard faced, cold response. Then the next day I found out his chef had left and I'm gunna guess this is why some of the food...

This place is awesome! Legit English pub in Amsterdam. We picked here to go watch the Euro Cup Finals and my daughter demanded we wear our España shirts. I tried to explain why that was a bad idea - but 9 year olds don’t understand euro futbol. So we walked into the lion’s den wearing the wrong colors.

A few dirty glances aside, it was totally cool being there and rooting for España. They have board games you can play, which was fun to have to do with the kids before the match began.

We had some apps and mains. Everyone was happy with all of the dishes. The match was on a Sunday, which is the day they do traditional English roast dinner. My wife and I shared the roast and it was perfect. Exactly what we wanted. The kind of dish that warms the soul.

If that wasn’t enough, we also got to meet Kerri, the proprietor of the establishment. She couldn’t be any cooler and more fun to be around. On top of that, she couldn’t believe that my daughter was the one playing the electric “amazing roulette” with me. The pub was packed for the match and she made time to come back and play the game with my daughter. Because she was brave and played the game with Kerri, Kerri got her a black dog shirt. I think it’s her favorite souvenir from the trip. She’s so proud that she earned it with her bravery.

Thank you Kerri for having such an awesome place for us to visit and for being so cool with our kids, even though we were in the wrong shirts....

On my European travels, this has to be one of the best places to eat and drink.

There was a warm welcome, matched by speedy and efficient service for food and drinks.

Centrally located to all the major attractions in Amsterdam, The Black Dog has cemented its reputation with locals and tourists alike.

Providing all the major brands one would expect to find in the Netherlands, the drinks range is complimented with bottles, spirits and draught one could find in London or Paris.

In addition, it serves superb food that ranges between lite-bites and substantial meals to suit whatever you have time or hunger for.

Sunday roasts are a speciality. Of course as a UK traveller, this plate of food was a welcome meal after a solid Saturday night in one of the richest cities for nightlife in Europe.

Spotlessly clean of course, this bar will take some beating for the seasoned traveller and somewhere I will be returning to and updating my review to include that Sunday dinner. 🙂

Thanks to all the staff for a...

I have wanted to go here for quite a while and Oh man it delivered. A restaurant so close to the Dam Square always makes me a bit cautious for scams but this is far from that. The atmosphere is really nice, it has a nice buzz but isn't too loud. The food is really good, the gyoza's are delicious for a really good price (7 for 10), the burger is really juicy and good though the mustard can be a bit spicy and the fries are really good with proper mayonaise. But the service was maybe my favourite, at first our waiters English was so good me and my girlfriend didn't even know he was dutch. He was one of the best servers I have had in a very long time, he was laid back, talkative and very nice. Both staff members were really attentive but not at all pushy. Food and drinks arrived very quickly. I would definitely recommend this place, i can imagine it is also a nice spot to have a drink as they have a lot of beers on draft.
