When I lived in the Nieuwmarktbuurt in 1980's I often crossed the Wallen through the narrow alley-ways. In the early morning it was cleaning time, carried out by a completely different shift of ladies. The atmospher was quite different from now in 2025. Hardly any tourists. Sporadicallly a local office-clerk type of man hurried in one of the few red doors, almost tripping over the mats on the sidewalk that still needed to be beaten out. That explains the popularity under the gentrified tourists. Service is very slow and a bit arrogant because they are so popular. Thats a shame and not necessary, a place like this deserves way better. Food is not special, there are 500 places like this in Amsterdam which do the same but better. Just stick to the original san sebastian places and drink your modern...
Read moreOld Town is actually my favorite bar I have ever been to, and I dont say this lightly. I'm glad the bar is thousands of miles from me because I would be here everyday if I could. The atmosphere is welcoming, it has a prime location, excellent happy hour, and the jäger is COLD. It is everything you would ever want in a bar.
