We have been in Lisbon 3 days. We have eaten at Cura, the Oven and SALA DE CORTE. The Oven was by far the most disappointing. The design of the place was very well done. The food at the oven was very good. We ordered the monster tiger prawn, garlic naan, tawa paneer, two of the butter chickens, basmati rice and Madras with lamb. The flavors were wonderful. All very well done. The problem isn’t with the chef. I honestly feel bad for the chef, because I can tell he puts his heart into his meals. The service was the worst experience I’ve had in a long time. The staff seemed to be very scattered. We did not seem to have a dedicated server and it showed. It took a very long time to get our meal, they never asked us for refills on our drinks. They messed up our madras and forgot the lamb. The original server said she clicked the wrong button. Then we ordered more rice and before I ordered I asked how long and she said she could go right up and get it, she did not. We were done with our second order of butter chicken by the time it came out. I always say a team can make or break you and this team is not a team at all. The restaurant was completely packed and I think they were not staffed enough to handle it. In my opinion when they called to confirm my reservation if they were going to be short staffed, they should’ve let me know so I could’ve been mentally prepared for it or canceled my reservation. Also, every Michelin star restaurant I go to they offer something at the table to start you with because they know it’s going to be a long wait. Something they could have done was easily made sure every table had water before they opened the restaurant, or offered free bread for every table, knowing that it’s going to be a slow. You need to overcompensate when you are lacking. That was not done. Unfortunately the bad service killed this one and I...

Food poisoning on 12.01.2024 with vomiting, fever and diarrhea. Later my wife also got sick from me, meaning it was an infection. We both ate grilled meat, but only I ate the sauces. Probably they were the problem. I'm pretty sure it was this restaurant, because we didn't have lunch, and food poisoning symptoms happen about 8 hours after food, which was exactly my case. Quality of food: grilled meats were overcooked, I've eaten much better at other Indian restaurants. Mango drink was tasty.

To the owner who replied to my last review edit: Initial review was about quality of food, and I kept updating the review as my symptoms started developing. You also said that you sure I was eating in other places that day. You simply can not know that. And again, I explained that symptoms and time indicate that poisoning happened here. I received food poisoning and you tell me that I have to be considerate towards the chefs? Maybe that doesn't happen usually at The Oven, but I just have to let you know about the poisoning, don't you think? So you can improve the process and don't risk making sick other customers? And in case other visitors were poisoned this day too. Please take this responsibly, and not blame it on other places I might have eaten at that day. Or on me by assuming I lied, because I edited the review several times. Doesn't make sense. I understand you want to save the face of the restaurant, but I think it would be better if you just said "Sorry to hear, I hope it wasn't us. But we will check everything in our kitchen just to be sure. Get well soon". Instead you chose to not take...

Review: One of the Best Indian Restaurants I’ve experienced !

If you’re looking for an exceptional dining experience, this Indian restaurant is an absolute gem. From the moment you step through the door, you’re greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality that sets the tone for a truly memorable meal.

The menu is a masterful blend of authentic Indian flavors and creative twists, offering something for everyone. Every dish is a celebration of taste, meticulously prepared and beautifully presented. The spices are perfectly balanced, and the ingredients taste fresh and vibrant. Whether it’s the creamy butter chicken, the aromatic biryani, or the sizzling tandoori platters, every bite feels like a culinary journey to India.

What truly sets this restaurant apart, however, is the impeccable service. The staff is attentive, friendly, and always eager to ensure your experience is perfect. The chef even took the time to visit our table, asking for feedback and sharing insights into the dishes. This personal touch made the meal feel all the more special.

The ambiance is warm and inviting, with just the right mix of elegance and comfort, making it ideal for both intimate dinners and larger gatherings.

In short, this restaurant goes beyond just serving food—it delivers an experience. From the staff to the chef, every aspect of the service is simply incredible. If you’re a fan of Indian cuisine or just great dining in general, this place deserves a spot at the top of your list. Highly...

After a week of enjoying traditional Portuguese cuisine, dining at The Oven was a refreshing and much-needed shift in flavor. We had a reservation for four on a Saturday evening and were seated promptly upon arrival. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, and the staff were welcoming, attentive, and friendly throughout the evening. To start, we ordered a couple of cocktails and two appetizers: the momo and pani puri (each served in portions of four). The momo sauce leaned heavily on cumin and had a more subtle flavor, while the tamarind water accompanying the pani puri was excellent—tangy and vibrant. For mains, we chose the butter chicken, chicken bhutuwa, goat curry, and lamb shank biryani. It’s worth noting that the curries are served without rice, so we added garlic naan and basmati rice on the side. While the butter chicken was quite mild in both spice and flavor, the other dishes truly stood out—rich, well-balanced, and full of depth. The chicken in the butuwa was perfectly tender, and the lamb shank biryani was the star of the meal—fall-off-the-bone tender and incredibly flavorful. All in all, it was an excellent dining experience—flavorful, satisfying, and a welcome change of pace. One downside that deserves mention: the restroom. Unfortunately, it had a very unpleasant odor reminiscent of sewage, which lingered even after leaving. It significantly detracted from an otherwise stellar evening.

We went with high hopes given that an Indian/Nepali restaurant was in Michelin Guide. Pros: The chef has tried to maintain the authenticity of taste. It's not sweet like other Indian restaurants. You can taste burst of flavor. Chef himself comes at table to greet. He cares. Cons: Service is extremely poor. The waiter put water in the glass, it poured down on the table. No problem, it happens. But he did not clean it. I ordered a drink after meal. They gave me a drink and after a while they brought the bill themselves without we asking for it as if pushing us to leave. I was still in the middle of my drink and we did not ask for the bill. Also we were there for just 1.5 hour in the restaurant. It was not like we were sitting for a long time. It was quite upsetting. It was 40C that day. I can understand that in Lisbon it's a few days with such weather. But having only one AC does not make sense to me especially if the food is also spicy. The ambience was uncomfortable due to heat. Then another subtle thing that they need to consider. We were a couple. When the bill was brought he put it in front of me (lady). It was ok in our situation. But they should be careful in such a situations and should put it in front of man.
