Fox's Den is literally a hole in the wall. Had I not Google mapped images of the place I'd have never found it. It's one door that sends you down a flight of stairs to a basement bar and eatery. The set up, however, is quite cozy. They have so many choices of bourbon that you may even want to peruse their online menu and the prices for all of it, including a Bud Light (my drink of choice) is the same as buying a 6-pack of BL at the liquor store. Their pricing of drinks is the only reason I've down-voted them from 5 ☆s. They have an array of appetizers, small plates, meals and pizzas, all to please many tastes. For those of us whom are picky, on top of having several food allergies, I was unable to find a single menu item that was palatable for me. This is not their fault, though. Some places aren't for everyone and I didn't come here to eat, furthermore. There are a few TVs at the bar that were following March Madness that gave the bar crowd something to talk about with the bartenders. Within the bar area, there were several high tables with raised chairs so that folks could experience the bar feel without facing the TVs. This bar seemed to cater to a bit more upscale clientele for folks in the mid-late 20s and up. Overall, a good mix of men and women so not a sausage fest. One other caveat assisting in stealing a 5-☆ rating is the parking situation as it often is when you have a ton of places crammed in a mile radius. In the evening, you're lucky to get a spot (as I was) where a car is literally pulling out next to you on that main street, otherwise that street is constantly filled with cars waiting to snag a spot. You're best finding a parking spot farther away or a parking garage even further away and making a hike. Lastly, the ambience is festive. Restrooms and entire restaurant was quite clean and cozy. There was a stellar bluegrass trio playing the night I attended and they were the icing on the cake. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone I did or did not know with the...
Read more"Oh well", were the last words I heard when leaving, as they knew i was not happy. After explaining that there was something wrong with the mussels dish. (Which we did not eat.) We were told that, we were the first to complain about them and that they're good, we cook them with... giving me a recipe... OKAY there was a bad mussel or two in OUR order, that ruined the dish.
I have Been here before, I like the place, but they eat we were treated tonight is very upsetting. Makes me think there are plenty of places to eat that would appreciate the business. To tell us they were good because no one complained, was wrong, no one got the same mussels we did OBVIOUSLY. I have 26 yrs experience in a sfd restaurant, it happens, there was a bad mussel that changed the flavor and we did not eat them because it was bad. I understand it happens, what I don't understand, was the way I felt when leaving, and that we were charged for them. Obviously upset and then I hear "oh well". Then if you don't care and you don't need my business, I won't be back and that is disappointing too because we do like the pizza.
UPDATE... To the food runner who was giving me a recipe and the server who I guess didn't take serious. Both my kids who tried to eat the mussels are now with abdominal pain and cramps. I guess you were wrong, I just think an apology and not charging me would have been the right move... instead I hear...
Read morePlace sure has gone downhill since they changed chefs. Pizza comes out overcooked and they fire times in the oven that are toppings that are meant to go on the pizza after it leaves the oven. You would think that as busy as they are the pizzas would be on the undercook side , but it’s obvious the new crew isn’t as educated on managing the oven temp, since it is a wood oven. On top of that you are greeting now by FOH team members that appear like they are unsure of how to seat their customers. Not their fault , fault of the floor manager or FOH manager. The insult to injury is you get footed a very Annapolis sized bill which is to say not cheap. Their high prices would be worth it if the overall experience didn’t leave you feeling like you would of been better off getting little Cesars pizza for less then 20 bucks and it would of tasted better then the improperly cooked pizzas. Also before with the old management- chef I loved eating here I would travel into Annapolis and park all the way in Eastport and walk across the draw bridge to eat here, that’s how much I enjoyed it. And now ? I won’t hold my breath for it go back the way it used to be....
