We stopped in at the Golden Eagle on our last night in Beaver creek and the place was really busy, in fact the host was very cordial in getting us a table that was reserved so we had an hour and a half to order and eat which was fine with us.
The restaurant is very nice, great location and ambiance with really good service.
My only complaint is with the New York Prime steak that I ordered medium rare. The steak was perfectly cooked but a horrible cut of meat that had so much gristle it was completely inedible. I’m typically very forgiving and flexible but could not find one good section of the steak so I requested to send the steak back for another which is something I NEVER do. Our server was extremely amiable and said that he would have to bring the steak to the cook for review before replacing it which I had no issue with, if the cook would have said the steak was good then he would have been the worst I’d ever seen. So anyway the cook agreed and I was served another steak in about 15 minutes.
The server came back to ask me how the second steak was and I actually lied and told him it was ok but it was almost as bad as the first. I took a couple of bites and then we left. I did leave a very nice tip as all of the servers were great.
We travel a lot and enjoy fine dining but it was incredulous that such a fine dining restaurant had two successive, awful steaks. I’m a huge steak guy but I can honestly say, at 58 years old, these were possibly the two worst cuts of meat I’ve ever seen. Fortunately my wife enjoyed her salmon and my son liked his filet.
The servers and host did their best, the cook and his selection of meat were terrible and I’m so disappointed to leave this review for such a...
Read moreThe atmosphere looked liked a cozy romantic restaurant. We were seated today and the waitress was a bit sassy right off the bat like she didn't want to attend a young adult group. Hate to give a low review unless you really pushed your luck but here we go. When my group and I opted not to get appetizers or drinks just straight to the main course that really set the mood off and we was ignored while people coming in after us was constantly attended. After waiting 10 min we put in our order at 8:11pm my brother asked for a ginger ale and didn't get it after 25 min later and no bread was given while others got there's. The food started to come out after we complained to the manager its been almost an hour and we haven't received anything. He went to look and said ticket was put in 30min ago meaning our waitress didn't put it in the system right away and was followed up with an excuse of how busy they was which they really wasn't their was about 11 tables occupied but people that came in later was getting their main course before us. My entire table was served at 8:51pm took 40 min to make 2 steaks and 1 chicken dish. We just went ahead and ate because everything was pretty much closing. Food was ok, I would have gave it 3 stars if we weren't forgotten about. Some waiters judge a book by its cover this certainly won't be the last restaurant but I am a very good tipper and have a prestigious job for being young but I'm not a person that flaunts by wearing my money. Nevertheless, due to it being Christmas; apart from my group, I did give a decent tip despite the horrible service. I wish this restaurant can improve since its in a nice location but I won't be coming back after being treated...
Read moreBased on the pictures and the good reviews we decided to get dinner here instead of the restaurant in our hotel (Park Hyatt). I don’t mind paying high prices for decent quality but this place is outrageous. We had bison tartar, duck wings, elk meatloaf, elk loin, Negroni and an espresso martini (sounds all great, right?). We started laughing at the end because almost everything was unbelievable terrible. But let me start with the good stuff: we liked the water, the wings, the warm bread and the mashed potatoes. The tartar (28 usd) was by far the worst I’ve ever had in my life: bland, small portion as if it was a Michelin star restaurant, no flavors whatsoever and probably cheap meat as well. Elk: ordered medium rare, it was completely raw inside and chewy. The sides and the flavors were off and overall didn’t fit together. Meat loaf: I have no words. The only edible thing in that dish were the mashed potatoes. Cocktails: sure, you can add golden beans on top the espresso martini but it doesn’t make it taste any better. Would avoid ordering cocktails and get a bottle of wine. Definitely not real craft cocktails you would expect for the price.
Service was ok but I have to rate the food as I go to a restaurant to eat and not to chat.
P.S.: what’s going on with that weird green sauce you add everywhere? The stuff on the butter (with sugar?) and the tartar? Must be some special ingredient that I completely missed. I would invest more time to make the food tasty instead of just paying attention to make...
