We went for my birthday and had an excellent waitress! The service was great, but the food was a bit costly. My friends and I brought our kids and because they do not have a kid’s menu, the kids had to order off the adults menu, which is a con to me since the food is already overpriced. The food was really good, but I think that the food should be a little cheaper than it is. Their shakes are extremely huge and very tasty. Another con is that they don’t give anything free for birthdays like most restaurants do. They will sing happy birthday to you, but if you want dessert then you have to purchase it yourself. Other than the food being overpriced and not giving out any freebies for birthdays, we had a really great time.
I decided to go back the following week on the 30th of December to celebrate my friend’s daughter’s birthday. First and foremost I would like to thank the manager “Justin” at the Mall of America location. He went over and beyond for us!!! There was a female manager who seated us who wasn’t really friendly that day. For one we made reservations at 8:30 and wasn’t able to get a table until like 9. So basically we had to wait 30 minutes until we were able to be seated. Then the manager was saying that the 3 additional people who we did not include in the reservation couldn’t come in. We weren’t sure if they were coming so we did not make reservations for them. However, there were many tables open and we were the last group that they were taking since they stop letting people in at 8:30. So clearly there was enough room for the 3 others. We asked the female manager nicely several times if they could just let the other 3 in and she insisted that she didn’t have room for them and that they could not come in. So I decided to pray and ask Justin, the other manager, if it would be all right if the other 3 could join us? He said Yes just like that. He took our orders and did a really great job. I really do appreciate him for going over and beyond, because he could have said no! But what the lady did not know was that I serve a Big and mighty God!!!!! So although she was being rude and acted as if she couldn’t let them in, my God showed up and showed out. So when Jesus says yes nobody can say no!!!!On the other hand, all the kids loved it. The food was great or should I say what the kids say….The food was Bussin Bussin!!!!!!!
Okay so we went back for my daughter’s 10th birthday and we had a blast. The week before I made a special trip there just to stop in just to let them know that they I would be having a party of 30 for March 17th for my daughter and my daughter’s best friend who shares the same birthday as my daughter. I ended up having to speak to the lady manager who we had an encounter with which I described in the second paragraph. I am so bad with names, but this time was really different and she was extremely sweet and very understanding. She took my credit card information just to reserve our seating and she wasn’t rude or anything. She was okay if additional people would have shown up and everything. Sometimes we tend to judge people or get really upset with people because how we’ve been treated. However, we have to understand that those who are serving us go through things and we have to learn to forgive and pray for those who offend us or hurt us or even mistreat us. We all have bad days and we truly don’t know what someone is going through or what they have been through. I’m glad that I had a better experience with her and that everything turned out just like we had prayed for. But back to the Sugar Factory itself, we had a great server who was our server the night we went in for ladies night as well. I can’t remember her name, but she could be Jamaican. However, she did her thing and she went out of her way to assist us. We go there quite often and the experience just keeps getting better and better. When it was time to sing happy birthday the staff turned up for my daughter and her best friend. The kids really enjoyed themselves, the food was really great and we had a really...
Read more3/13/23 Dining Experience…my son’s 6th year birthday.
Some MAJOR Concerns: One-food quality: the menu has changed dramatically, removing some the most tasteful and quality dishes..the food that is on the menu is not worth the stomach space or price at all…dry rainbow sliders, dry fries, bland Caesar salad with crusty chicken strips, lukewarm and tiny buffalo wings, and the “BLUE” smoke drinks were DARK GREEN!!
Two-discriminatory behavior: my family made a 2pm reservation days in advanced for my sons birthday, however, another family, who learned in that moment that a reservation was needed, made an on the spot 2pm reservation and was seated before my family. The bartender lady said first come first serve, so I asked her wouldn’t that be the days in advance reservation over the 15 minutes ago reservation? She had no response.
Then, the waiter/“manager in training,” told us the waiting staff (which was only 3 people…very understaffed) would sing happy birthday to my 6 year old son as it is a normal practice with the birthday dessert. When it was time for the staff to sing happy birthday to my son the waiter/“manager in training” gave a sorry reason why the restaurant do not sing happy birthday to guest anymore (he said the singing may cause another guest to have a seizure) yet staff just sung happy birthday 20 minutes ago to a little girl and he was right there clapping and singing!!! And my family witnessed and applauded for the happy birthday song from staff to the young girl. Our mind was blown by this lame and illogical excuse.
FYI: my family is African American…the entire front dining staff was white..the guest who received the happy birthday celebration song was white…the guests whose on the spot reservation that trumped our days in advanced reservation was white…so those factors lead to the conclusion that that group of workers have discriminatory behaviors.
Three-Over charged: Overall, our bill was over $121.03 for a lame, trashy and discriminatory experiences. Then I learned we were charged 131.03 without our consent. The $10 difference is if no concern…the fact that it was charged without consent, and after such a horrible experience, is the concern.
We will never again dine at Sugar...
Read moreWe were extremely excited to dine at the sugar factory for my daughter's birthday. We live close by so spend quite a bit of time at the MOA and have passed it many times. The video screen, decor, lighting, and unique menu are a teenagers dream.
The experience itself was a disappointment. The server (our receipt said Krista) started service on a positive note letting us know of the various birthday options ($5 or $50 experiences). She came back a bit later and we ordered a cheeseburger, a bacon cheeseburger, the rainbow sliders, fries, onion rings, and an awful mojito.
The rainbow sliders were for the birthday girl.
All the food came out by a food runner except the sliders. We were looking for our server for over ten minutes regarding the sliders but she was not on the floor. The other guests at our table had finished their food by the time we were able to see our server. We had to get up and go to her. (She did not check on our table after the drinks were made and previous food delivered.) She said she would check on the sliders.
She brought the sliders to our table and they were cold and dry. You could tell they had been sitting for a long while. She asked me if I would like more water when she delivered the sliders. I had said yes. She never brought the water.
I chose the $5 birthday sparkler option at the end of our meal. This was adorable and the 2 staff members (including our server) that came over did a great job and had excellent energy.
When the bill came, I was ready to leave. It had been an annoying experience for the most part. I have worked in the service industry for years and it was simply bad service. As I was paying the invoice, I realized the dry, cold, late rainbow sliders we ordered were not even charged at menu price. The menu you scan at the table states they are 15.95 and our receipt charges 16.95.
We never received napkins, silverware, never had any of our waters refilled, and we had to track down our food and server. For a $120 tab for 3 people to eat, you...
