Delicious Restaurants in Minneapolis: Twin Cities Grill

So I ate at a few different restaurants in the Mall of America during my trip to Minnesota, and this place was by far the best. It was the considered the best in the places I looked up before my trip, and I can confirm, you must come here. The whole vibe is old school 50's diner/regular restaurant. I can't explain it. But it's nice; comforting. Anywho, I got seated by my super nice wait staff and took to ordering. I got the Northern Lakes Fresh Walleye Fish Fry (our specialty; tartar sauce, garlic coleslaw). It was very, very good. I will say this: some of you will think that there is too much breading on this, and you are correct. But I didn't mind. I use enough tartar sauce and ketchup to make it a-ok. There were a couple of pieces of fish that I de-breaded to check out the quality of the fish itself. According to my server, this is like a dish that can only be done right in Minnesota. It's a beautiful white fish, flakey kind of like salmon is. I enjoyed it. You will, too. I also got to sample the Tuna Melt (house-made tuna salad, grilled with cheddar cheese). This was so, so good. Large hunks of tuna in the salad mixture. Super moist, but the whole thing holds together, so you won't have salad falling off your sandwich with every bite. Totally holds up. The cheese is an interesting choice, I assume it's a Minnesota thing, but it wasn't bad. Overall, I feel like I didn't type out a five star experience here, but I was to make it clear that it was one. I loved everything about it. I think you will, too.

I was not a fan of this experience at Twin City Grill. This was my first trip, and the hostess was great upon arrival. After that, everything went downhill. We sat in the bar section because it was slow there and the hostess said it would be the fastest. We were starving and getting hangry. A servers attendant filled our water glasses, and shortly after, the bartender came over. We asked him what he recommended and because we were dressed nicely I assume, he listed off the most expensive things on the menu. We each ended up trying one of their burgers and his expression only showed disappointment as he grabbed our menus. After that, he decided to completely forget about us in an empty bar. He stopped to watch the game on TV and talk to another server before even putting in our ticket. Our food came and he never came to check to see how it was. We didn't have napkins with a messy burger and I ran over to the bar with grease dripping off my fingers to try to get napkins, mustard and another water. He told me that he would bring it all over. It took so long,I stole napkins off of a nearby table. The best thing about the meal was the French fries. My boyfriend ordered his burger med rare and it came back well. I ordered mine medium, as they asked us how we wanted it cooked and mine came back well too. The buns were dry and the burgers were tasteless. The salt and vinegar that they put on the fries would have been great on the burger to give it some flavor. I would come back to get their fries and a drink if I were walking around the mall but I wouldn't spend another $50 there.

We went to Twin City Grill for a late lunch last Saturday while at the MOA and it was fantastic. The ambiance is excellent - the lights are dimmed and it's a more upscale feeling. We held a conversation with ease even though it was busy. Service was wonderful. The server was friendly and attentive. We were seated quickly and our bread (which was delicious) was refreshed without interrupting our conversation. Drink orders and food were prompt. Everything was just smooth. I had the pan sauteed almond-crusted fresh Minnesota walleye with mashed potatoes, a side of steamed asparagus and a garden salad. My husband had the beef stroganoff. The food is amazing. Seriously amazing. My husband actually closed his eyes for a moment during his first bite of the beef stroganoff and "mmmmm'd" so that's definitely a winner! The almond-crusted walleye was delicious. It was cooked to perfection and I can't even describe how absolutely magnificent the almond crust was. The asparagus was flavorful and steamed flawlessly. The restaurant is accessible for wheelchairs. There are tables that chairs can be removed from for wheelchair seating. If you have a rigid wheelchair with a footplate, these tables do have the center pole so that does get in the way unless you sit a bit to the side. The aisles are wide enough to navigate in a chair.

It's been about 7yrs since I gotten food from here. I'm a witness that things do change with time and not always for the best. The calamari was fresh and delicious. The MN Walleye dishes fell short. 1st it had a fishy taste, that we (hubby) never get with fries walleye. Hubby had walleye sandwich that had bones in it. I had walleye fish fry, which are nugget size fish bites, it also had bones in it. I've had vinegar fries yrs ago and they were delicious, but today someone with heavy handed on the vinegar NOT GOOD! The banana cream pie used to be my favorite, but it was just okay. Crust appear to be a few days old, which was obvious due to the wetness (moisture in crust from sitting a few days) of it. Hubby first time there, didn't have luxury of before and after memories/ taste test. He liked pie, but the crust left on plate proved my point. He don't eat things he don't like. We're to old to play those games. The wild rice soup, it liked. He would have liked better had he tasted stale cracker before he crushed it into soup. He wandered how long those crackers was around. 🙁 I talked to Manager who took feedback well, as I hff had to call back, because I received an open face sandwich to go, just to get home and find that there was no gravy. 😯

*Edit* went back today and had lunch. Ribs were out of this world and the waiter (Rogerio) was absolutely top tier! Best service I have had in a very long time!! We had a wonderful experience here. We were able to get seated at a table for two immediately and were promptly addressed by a staff member getting waters for us and letting us know the server would be right with us. Not more than a minute later the server came and brought menu's, bread, and answered our questions about the items. The bread was fantastic! Approximately five to ten minutes later our food was out and it was delicious! Our server made sure to check up on us and make sure we were doing okay and inquire about the food. She brought out a tray of desserts when we asked about the desert menu and explained everything on there. We had Key lime pie and a brownie sundae. The key lime was exceptional (I highly recommend it). After we were finished our server brought the tab and boxed up the leftovers for us and put everything into a nice bag to take home. Our servers name was Sabrina and she was amazing in every way :) Great food and outstanding service. Very well done.
