If I had written this review based on past experiences, I would have given 5 out of 5 stars. UNFORTUNATELY, from our experience this evening, we could NOT rate it a 5 due to managers/owners and poor policies.
When you go, be prepared to order quickly (maybe look at the menu before you go). They have SO many items on the menu, which makes it a bit overwhelming and leaves you feeling rushed to order. They return to your table many times asking if you are ready to order. We know this is done because they are trying to get people in and out, but it makes it a bit stressful.
We ordered numerous entrees and several sides. We decided to try something new this time. Everything we got was delicious...except for one dish. It was so bland and had no flavor. Waitstaff comes by the table and asks "how is everything?" We decided to tell them how much we disliked the one dish...which could clearly be seen, as we had barely eaten anything. We discussed that it was very bland and had no flavor. We asked if it could be taken off of the bill or if we could order something else. The waiter then said he had to go talk to the owner. Another man walked over, who I was made to believe was the owner. I had to explain everything again and he said he would bring me another dish, but he would CHARGE US FOR BOTH. We declined that NON-CUSTOMER SERVICE friendly offer. We then decided to speak to him again a few minutes later as we have always had great experiences at this place and great food and couldn't believe that this experience was going to (pardon the pun) leave a bad taste in our mouths. We explained that at many restaurants, if someone is super unhappy with something, the restaurant tries to do something to rectify the situation. He then said, well I need to talk to an owner. The owner then came over and we had to explain everything again. He said that they do not do refunds or swaps. He said the dish we ordered is super popular and everyone else likes it. He made us feel like we were at fault for not liking this dish.
The owner ended up bring us a different dish, but only after us having to explain to numerous people how unhappy we were with this one dish. The owner served us a piping hot side of guilt and made it seem like he was doing us a favor and told us, he would give us a one time exception to make another dish.
Long story short, when they come around and ask if you like your food, they don't really want to know unless you love it. We hope this review lets you know that if you have a bad experience or greatly dislike your food (or find it inedible), don't expect anything to be done about it. It's too bad, because they could have so easily made our experience great by not making us feel like it was our fault and simply taking it off the bill or letting us pick something else...without us going through what was mentioned above. This place could easily be a 5 star restaurant, but unfortunately the managerial customer...
Read moreBeing Cantonese myself, I have very high expectations for Cantonese cuisine, but I’m also aware that nothing in Colorado will beat restaurants in California. If I could give a 4.5 for the food I would. If I give a 5, it’d be because this restaurant seasons exactly like how Cantonese people season their food, and that’s hard to come by. It’s overall good compared to some other Chinese restaurant options I’ve had in Denver. I gave a 4 because of some minor complaints from my Cantonese soul but these are not things that my American companion noticed, so I digress. If you’re Cantonese, don’t expect this to be California-level food. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with the food. In fact, the Chinese side of the menu (which I recommend EVERYBODY to try because it’s authentic) has a huge selection of classic Cantonese dishes. The ingredients are fresh, the shrimps are huge, and the pot dishes come with sizzling pots (green flag). The seasoning is the right amount—not too salty, not too bland, and with the correct ingredients. The mantou dipped in condensed milk (which they give as a complimentary dessert) is such a classic dessert that I was pleasantly surprised. If I lived in the area, I would probably come here often. I’m not sure why they have a sichuan selection too; I cannot comment on those. Overall, I would put this restaurant as one of the most authentic and fresh Chinese/Cantonese ones you can find in the Denver metro area. Order from the Chinese side (they have English translations) and you’ll get a taste of that authenticity. I did in fact peak at the American side of the menu and it’s just the most stereotypical American Chinese dishes, which I think would defeat the purpose of coming here to eat authentic food. I took off a star for the food to not overhype this place as well as knowing that while the food is good, it’s not through the ceiling good, but I will recommend it to anyone who wants to know what authenticity...
Read moreIt was our daughters 18th birthday and she requested Chinese food for her birthday dinner. Wanting something outside of the usual spots we go, we remembered a spot that was recommended to us by friends of the family.
The restaurant is located in a strip mall and so we were pleasantly surprised that there was a waiting list...on a THURSDAY night In our experience that is usually a GREAT sign so we were excited to get in the door. We had a large party and knew that it was going to be difficult to seat us but the hostess was super nice and offered a solution that worked for us.
We were sat and greeted pretty quickly by our waiter. Their menu has a large selection of items and variety. This being our first time here we decided to play it safe and go with our go to food choices. We placed an ordered for the jalapeno wontons, steamed dumplings and eggrolls to start and proceeded to order combination fried rice, combination lo mein, beef and broccoli, cashew chicken, triple with garlic sauce and orange chicken.
WOW. The food was served hot, the portions were generous and the flavors were exceptional. (I especially appreciated the fact that my orange chicken was crispy and not too sweet.)
At the end of the meal they provided us each with Chinese donuts to which we used as an opportunity to sing happy birthday to our daughter. As we did, one of the staff quickly came over to our table and asked us to sing it again in just a minute. After a few minutes, a happy birthday song played over their speakers and our daughter was presented with a slice of chocolate cheesecake lit with a candle. The whole restaurant, staff included, sang along.
Wrapping up for the evening our entire party agreed. THIS place not only had the best food, hands down, that we've ever had in Colorado, but the staff took this over the top with their service.
Thank you Hong Kong Station for knocking it out of the park. We...
