This... This is my happy place. I'm a fairly picky eater due to having an onion allergy and so I am rarely willing to venture out of my comfort zone and try something completely different, but I have never been happier that I did than when I decided to go to the Meatball Eatery! First off, as you walk in, the decor is eye catching, the art chosen is beautiful, the low lighting is comforting and inviting, and the glow coming from the bar says "You drink what? Yeah, we got that.".
Next, the service. I have been here many... many times (many of the staff already know my name :-) ) and I have never had service here that was anything less than superb. The staff are inviting, courteous, and give you the perfect amount of privacy while still being around if you need them.
Then, I get a look at the menu and the first thing I look for are the drinks. They have an amazing selection of delicious cocktails and in-house made sodas! I have been through many of the drinks on this menu (the corpse reviver #2 being one of my favorites if you are looking for a suggestion... if you like absinthe, or go for something made by the legend, Cory, The Goblin! Soooo delicious!) and I have yet to be disappointed. If alcohol isn't your thing, the strawberry mint lemonade is delicious too! They also have new drinks added regularly that are hand crafted by their mixologist staff and voted on by the staff for our enjoyment!
Now we get to the good stuff, the food! There are many options for all different sensitivities and, all the ones that I can eat (because YES they have meatballs and sauces without onions!!!) have been phenomenal! That Parmesan Mornay sauce makes me audibly enjoy my eating experience and, if we are at the table together, I WILL lick that container clean! I would also recommend the fresh mozzarella balls (nom nom nom!!!) and DON'T FORGET to save room for dessert!!! The sticky ginger cake is unbelievable!! I have literally came her for pickup JUST FOR THOSE CAKES!
Ok, I'll stop ranting now, but just know, if you pass this place without going in, you are doing yourself a great injustice and will from then on be living in regret... Don't live in regret, get your tum tum full of these num nums... Just don't eat all my sticky...
Read moreTasty but way overpriced. I had high hopes for this new place that opened at the end of September near the intersection of I-25 and Arapahoe. I stopped by tonight on the way home from work to pick up dinner for my family.
I can say that the flavors are quite delicious -- I ordered at the bar and the service was great. Corey was very friendly and made knowledgeable and well informed reccommendations. There is a lot of variety in the meatballs and sauces. However, I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the portion sizes of EVERYTHING.
The "loaf" of garlic bread ($4.50) was barely 8 inches long and was flat not fluffy, but it tasted good according to my carb eaters.
I selected 2 orders of the "Naked Balls" ($8.50 per order), one chicken with Mornay sauce, one classic meatball with tomatoe gravy. There were 4 balls in each but they were small. I was expecting a larger ball for the price, and more sauce would have been nice too.
I also ordered the "King's Balls" ($16.50) but despite what the childish innuendo implies, these 4 balls were the same size as the Naked Balls. Nothing royal about them! This dish does come with Rag pasta, also very tasty, and we had it with the Vodka sauce (that sauce is not on the menu, ask for it if you want to try it). As you can see in the pictures, the pasta did not even come close to filling the take out container.
So sad. $38.00 pre-tip and my family of 3 (I didn't have any bread and only 2 meatballs) was still hungry after consuming every bite and had to forage for more food in the fridge. I will stick with Pizza Republica for awesome meatballs and generous portions. Or really, most local Itallian places, I'd recommend they either decrease the price for take out or seriosly increase the portion size. Meatballs are not complicated and being stingy on a homestyle food like this is really silly. I doubt I...
Read moreFirst I’d like to say that our waiter was excellent. I can’t remember his name, but he was nice and super personable. If I were rich I would have given him at least $100 tip. I’m not though, so hopefully these words mean something to him if he ever reads this.
Let me get to the actual restaurant. I personally couldn’t stand the atmosphere. It was so gosh dang dark and the music was so loud. I couldn’t wait to leave. I’m not sure I understood what type of restaurant they were going for. A bar? A fancy restaurant? I didn’t get it and didn’t like it.
The food itself was.... heavy. Sure meatball eatery you go in knowing it’s not the healthiest meal, but gosh dang. Did I just eat KFC? I’m so bloated. I’ll for sure be constipated. The coslaw was delicious I’ll give it that.
However the meatballs just weren’t that good. I hate to say it because it seems like the places tries to be so hard to be a nice restaurant, but I wouldn’t make mediocre meatballs if you’re trying to be a fancy restaurant. Just too expensive for food that just isn’t that good.
I’m giving it 3/5 only because of how hard I felt they tried to make the entire idea of a meatball watery work. I just won’t return because there’s nothing that brings me back. I wish them the best of...
