How do I love the La Baguette.... Let me count the ways.
I am hopelessly loyal to the chicken salad on croissant and can't help myself when I tag on a cup of French Onion soup. Should I cut the servings in half for a soup and salad combo? Probably ... But do I? No. Instead I opt to stuff my tummy like a Thanksgiving Turkey. Is it worth it? Yes.
First, let me talk to you about the chicken salad. It's classic and wonderfully familiar... The croissant is perfectly fresh and flaky. It's almost like they knew you were coming and about to walk through the door and so they made them both fresh just for you.
And finally let me introduce you to the star of the show... The French Onion Soup. It's rich and savory with an abundance of caramelized onions and topped with chunky French baguette croutons and lots of ooey gooey Swiss cheese. It's truly love at first bite, and I renew that vow of love on each and every visit.
The downtown location is charming and meets the bill when I want to walk off my stuffing. But my favorite location is on Chestnut Dr. location (off GoG) because it reminds me of a little establishment in Paris... Understated... Charming... Personable... Like it has personal touches of many different generations of family members and customers over the years. I'm so glad they haven't tried to change. Truly the food is the focus. And I thank them for that. Never change.
Regardless of which location I go to there is always a diverse clientele. Lots of gal pal luncheons but last time I went I had a couple construction workers, some military service members and a cowboy. Yep you heard me right, a cowboy. He was there because it had been his wife's favorite brunch place. Yes you heard right... This John Wayne of a man had taken time from workday to mozy into town to honor his wife's memory by having her fav meal at her fav little brunch restaurant. Guess what he was eating? You guessed it... This cowboy was slurping away at French Onion Soup. I admit, it was hard not to cry... He ate something else but I couldn't feel what it was. But then ofcourse I was trying not stare lest I start bawling at such a display of a man still desperately in love with his deceased wife...
So run don't walk... Grab your wife or girlfriend... Grab your pal or heck, go by yourself. But go. Go get your new favorite meal at your new fav casual little...
Read moreUpdate: We got home to eat the sandwiches as I told him at least the food will be worth it… my sandwich barely has enough chicken salad on it compared to usual as well as his pastrami has literally two small slices of pastrami on it. He told me anywhere else woulda actually had meat on it. Now we are now both upset at this whole experience. I paid $31 total and neither sandwich was worth $12. All ratings moved to 1 star.
I come here all the time and today I received the worst service I have had in a long time. I left fuming. If a manager was there I would have expressed how I felt but I had to get out of there before I exploded. First, the girl ignored everyone waiting in line to take a 20 minute phone call about two salads. She huffed rolled her eyes and said sorry for the wait after hanging up and took an order. We got there around 2:45 by the way and It’s 3:02 while I’m ordering I asked for an iced chai and she tells me she can’t do a chai because they shut the coffee down an hour before they close. I check the time I said exactly an hour from now? And chai counts as coffee?? She said yeah it’s inconvenient but nothing I can do sorry. We got some sandwiches and a cheese croissant. I pay and she runs off storming around cleaning up the coffee area and bringing out garbage like she’s trying to rush out the door as soon as possible.
I figured we wouldn’t be there past 3 getting to go. We left at 3:15 he’s upset because he’s late for his meeting and I convinced him that they’re so awesome and fast there (they usually are) but the attitude this girl had! I was astonished she’s employed there. I’ve never seen her before as the older gentleman that works there is very nice and efficient.
Our sandwiches finally came out and I told him I was still waiting on my cheese croissant since she ran off to clean and do stuff that she could have done after serving me what I paid for. I usually tip really good but I was upset about the chai and attitude so I didn’t. I had to track her down in the back while she was cleaning and ask for my croissant! She huffed again like I was bothering her! Then goes cleans her hands and grabs my pastry.
Not sure why two sandwiches and a cheese croissant took 30 minutes and I got served the worst attitude I’ve seen in customer service for a while now. I won’t be back anytime soon because of...
Read moreUPDATE 4/14/21: Yesterday afternoon I phoned in an order for pick up. I ordered 2 French Dips, Fondue and a slice of the Symphony dessert!
I've had LB's fondue on many occasions - Along with their French Onion Soup which is always delish, and a few slices of the Symphony. All are always amazing, never a complaint.
I KNEW the French dips would follow suit and would be amazing too! I was right, this is my new French dip spot! Price is right, and served a la carte, Im very pleased with everything as usual.
As I stated, this was a pick up order and all the way there and all the way home I bragged about the Symphony to my son whom I had ordered it for. When I arrived I waited in line and noticed a white bag on the counter and discovered when it was my turn that it was my order. I asked the cashier to add a Crème Caramel and another small dessert and paid almost $35 using my debit and also cash in the jar for a tip. It wasn't until I got home that I discovered there was no Symphony 😐.
I immediately called La Baguette and the cashier's response was, "Well I didn't charge you for it anyway".
Ive been here at least 4-5 times in the past 6 months, and usually pay for more than one persons meal. I often visit with friends and family and am very disappointed in the response to a pick up order in which plenty of time was given to reach inside the case and remove a slice of Symphony.
I don't view La Baguette like I used to. I've always held this establishment at a higher personal favorite for the quality of the food as well as the customer service. I used to believe this place had way more class. Sorry to see that I'm not held at as high a level as a loyal consumer. For me, this is HUGE. If Im not important to this place then I'll refrain from spending my unimportant money. I ALWAYS love everything I get at La Baguette! The French Onion Soup is the popular choice on a cold, Winter day! But then again their French Onion soup is good on any day! Can't forget dessert, it's ALWAYS DELISH! Thanks for consistently serving quality food and providing quality...
