I ate a delicious lunch yesterday [10-12-2022] at Cinco Tacos at 1 S. High St. in downtown Columbus.
I am downtown only occasionally during the rather-limited "lunchtime-only" hours of Cinco Tacos; yesterday had been a great time for me to eat there because I had also been attending a 10:00 a.m. press conference that same day, across the street, at the Ohio Statehouse.
My food choice for yesterday had been a "Cubano," "birria beef, smoked ham, Swiss cheese, deli pickles, and spicy mustard, served on a telera roll."
I had not been able to figure out exactly what a "Cubano" is by reading the hand-lettered menu near the ordering counter but decided to order a "Cubano" anyway.
I would have added the word "sandwich" to the name that appears on the menu had I been designing the menu.
Depending on where you look, you will see different "open hours" listed for Cinco Tacos. A sign on their front door says that they are open Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. However, a banner that has been attached to the outside of the building [that faces W. Broad St.] says that they are open 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
I tend to believe the "Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m." sign on the front door but I do want to mention the banner that faces W. Broad St. that provides conflicting information that may not actually be true.
The interior of Cinco Tacos provides extremely interesting views of the very-familiar-to-me intersection of Broad St. and High St., and also provides interesting views of W. Broad St. as far west as the Palace Theatre and the LeVeque Tower, from angles from which I had never before viewed that area of downtown Columbus.
After I had arrived at home yesterday, I learned that the Cinco Tacos website includes a vastly-easier-to-read menu that I definitely plan to consult before my next visit.
If you are downtown -- on a weekday -- during the lunch hour -- and are looking for some delicious Mexican Food, I recommend...
Read moreI am very sad I have to give it a 3 but let me start with all the good things first the customer service was great I was offered a sample to determine spice levels. The recommended item was very good and there was no wait even though only 1 employee was working. This is a family owned business and I definitely think you should stop in and try it the atmosphere is pretty great. Now the not so great things first if you are reading this it is not a sit down waiter restaurant it's like Chipotle where you order then go sit down. Second I ordered the Birra Tacos which were really good I would have liked a side of sourcream with them but very tasty. They were 11.50 and you get 3. I also got the tri which includes salsa, Guacamole and a Queso. I would not recommend spending your money on this the Pico was a little spoiled or had a refrigerator taste, the Guacamole was great but the Queso was broken and did not have alot of flavor in addition to this the price on the board for this said $5 but I was charged 6 and I mentioned it to the employee but he just told me all the menu prices were changing and charged me 6 anyway I was very disappointed in it. 3rd I had water and ice with my water both tasted old and I was worried I might get sick from it as I have in the past from contaminated water that tasted the same. So it was definitely a mixed experience if you go here get the Birra Tacos, skip the Trio get one of their other items and maybe skip the ice but I did notify them about the taste of the ice. Read moreMy friend and I stumbled upon this place by accident. We were attending a summit at the nearby theater and broke for lunch. We were heading to a close by well-known taco spot, but the line was so long. A lot of us had the same idea, apparently. We decided to venture a little further out, aimlessly walking down High street and I noticed the sign and no wait. Bingo! Upon walking in, we saw the order kiosks and intuitively started entering our orders, thinking it might’ve been like a ghost kitchen or something. After placing the order, we followed voices to where we assumed people were waiting on their food. But boom, it was a whole restaurant and an order line/Cashier. Saw a pick up shelf, and was a bit confused whether they’d call us, or if we had to go to the Cashier to let them know we were here. We took our seats and shortly after, a friendly staff member came with our food trays. Perfect.
I ordered a flour Street Taco and another but can’t recall the name, believe it was pork. Both were actually good. Nothing to really write home about, was average, but very tasty tacos. The pico was delicious, and fresh - enjoyed that. If I’m on that side of downtown, and the other taco place has a line - I’d definitely give this...
