PSA TO ALL MINORITIES LIVING IN COLORADO STAY OUT AND AWAY FROM THIS CANDY PLACE CALLED ITS SUGAR ITS LOCATED DOWNTOWN OFF THE 16th STREET MALL THE EMPLOYEES AND MANAGERS WILL RACIALLY PROFILE YOU AND MAKE EXCUSES AS TO WHY ITS OK THAT THEYRE DOING THOSE THINGS! I’m actually very disappointed and quite disgusted with the level of disrespect my boyfriend and I encountered at this place yesterday. On January 11th of 2019 around 8PM my boyfriend and I were victims of racism and the manager working justified her employees actions as “doing his job” as stated my boyfriend and I walked into this place with intentions of buying something mind you we walked around the whole store and looked around while another couple who happened to be white was walking around also, mind you as we walked around the store the male employee (who’s name I wasn’t able to obtain) followed us in every direction we walked or touched anything coming up right behind us “fixing things” yet he didn’t do that to the white couple who was in the store before us, now we walk around some more and he’s still following behind us “cleaning up” yet nothing was out of place he was just following 2 BLACK PEOPLE that he assumed would steal around, it’s a got damn candy store with cameras at every angle why would I steal let alone from a candy store? Anywho we proceed to pick up a bag to get candy from the different islands around the store and once we end up dead in the center of the store picking candy out I notice the employee is at the counter now watching our every move when I finally look up he looks away as if he wasn’t staring at us and I ask “do you have a problem” at that point he looks scared as if he KNEW what he was doing was wrong and stutters to say “no there’s nothing wrong” at that point I’m livid because I can’t even shop around the store in PEACE without feeling like I’m being racially profiled so I set the bag down and leave the store. After 5 mins of leaving the store I go back because now I want to speak with the manager (who’s name I also wasn’t able to obtain) because of the level of service and disrespect my boyfriend and I encountered, so she comes out says hello and asks what the issue is I begin to explain that the min we walked into the store her employee followed and watched us around the entire store yet there was a white couple in there who he did NOT do those things too and she begins to say “no it wasn’t anything like that he was just doing his job” and while I’m continuing to explain the story he’s at the register acting extremely unprofessional while ringing out a customer making faces and mumbling under his breath so I say “really you didn’t do the things I’m telling your manager right now” because at this point your level of professionalism went out the door when you decided to start making faces and mumble nonsense under your breath WHILE with a customer so the manager stops me and says I can leave because at that point I’ve gotten loud yes I’m loud I’m frustrated and disgusted because not only are you standing up for this racial profiling but you’re making an excuse for his behavior by telling me “he’s just doing his job” his job wasn’t all that important when that white couple was in the store walking around but the min we walk in his job becomes a do or die situation no that isn’t right and I will not stand for it the manager also refused to give me her managers information asking “what do I need it for we don’t give out that type of information” ok well that’s fine because not only is this review going on google but it will be on yelp and other social media platforms! All the manager had to do was cooperate and listen and she didn’t want to do that not to mention she called the police/mall cops because I got loud with her so again for anybody who’s a minority stay out of its sugar downtown on 16th street mall because you WILL be racially profiled if you...

When you enter, you're immediately greeted by someone. Everything is pink and the music is usually unnecessarily loud. The staff seem to not really care about their job. They come off unhappy. If you're a black individual, expect to be followed around the store by one of their associates, like Randy. I guess they assume we'll steal something. During my last experience there, I just wanted a little bit of everything in the bulk section of the store. As I'm picking and choosing, Randy decides that he'll pretend he has something to look at or do in every section of the store I'm in. I walked around just to test him. I've shopped at this store three times now and I've never felt so appalled in my life. I understand there are kids who go in there and might try something but seriously? I'm an adult and I have money, money that I'm willing to spend on unnecessarily expensive candy. If you enjoy being profiled while you're there, then it's the store for you! While the shop itself is wonderful with a great selection the friendly staff quickly became nightmares after my card was unfortunately declined.

My recent visit started out pleasant and whimsical as my child, who is only 2, picked out various candy from bins that we put into our baggie to be weighed and purchased. Upon checking out my card was declined. I apologized and checked my bank account which had plenty of funds. After trying again and once again being declined the clerk who was once a bright cheerful woman transformed and began yelling in front of my child and other patrons of the store that she was now responsible for paying for the candy. Following me around the store as I tried to calm my now upset 2 year old while scolding me about tainted product and damaged goods.
