This place is AWESOME!
Rarely does a place live up to the hype for me & even though there was much hype surrounding Sam's No. 3 it did.
The first day we went it was about 10:30 so the estimated wait was long at about 40min. To be expected for this time on a Saturday especially if the place is worth eating at. Sadly our wait ended up being more like an hour but we stuck it out anyway. Glad we did because it was well worth the wait.
When we sat down we were greeted warmly by a super friendly server. He took our order & minutes later returned with drinks & almost as fast after that had our food. All of it. This place really cranks out the food in a rapid manner. Whenever food comes out that quickly you worry about order accuracy & good quality. Both of those concerns quickly went away as our order was spot on and the food... Perfect.
I ordered the country fried pork chops w/scrambled eggs & opted for the biscuits & gravy instead of the taters & toast. You can even do French toast if you have a sweet tooth. The eggs were incredible for scrambled eggs. Cooked alongside all of those meats & what not so all of that flavor comes through. The country fried pork chops are phenomenal. Seriously. Order these & prepare to have your proverbial socks knocked off. Lightly breaded & cooked to perfection yields a tender juicy pork chop the likes of which are hard to find these days. The biscuits & gravy were also perfect in their simplicity.
My wife ordered a hollandaise skillet that was also very very good. I only sampled a bite but what I had was quite yummy.
The cinnamon rolls... Oh, the cinnamon rolls. These are insanely delicious. Light, airy, doughy & cooked to perfection. The cream cheese butter glaze is out of this world. We split one & I could have just eaten a bunch of cinnamon rolls with nothing else & been quite content. Glad we split one though so we could enjoy other things as well.
We like it so much we returned Sunday morning too. We debated other places that reviewed almost as well but when we looked at the higher prices & lesser reviews we thought to ourselves: why?
Day two. This time we arrived earlier & the estimated wait was only 15min which turned into only about five.
This time I went with the Kitchen Sink Burrito made famous by Diners, Dives & Drive-thru's. It didn't disappoint. It was HUGE & full of delicious food. The green chili smothering was also delightful.
My wife ordered a unique twist on a Monte Cristo sandwich that used French Toast ham & eggs. The strawberry syrup dipping sauce was outstanding.
Of course we split another cinnamon roll too. So damn tasty!
In summary, Sam's No. 3 is the epitome of a diner. No frills or gimmicks. Just ordinary food cooked extraordinarily. I don't give out five star reviews often but this place earned it. Don't...
Read moreThis place has been a staple for so long. I finally tried yesterday. It was great! The burgers are what you are here for. I got a patty melt and my friend had the all American cheeseburger.
Our server was awesome. She was wheeling and dealing multiple tables so efficiently but had grace under pressure, and on top of all that, it did not take away from her hospitality skills. We noticed all around, the crew compliment was firing on all cylinders. From the cooks to the middle management and of course the wait staff and bartenders. Nice! It's hard in the industry to find so many people to work cohesively and not compromise their personalities or attitudes! Gotta take care of the staff or the staff won't take care of the guests!
What we can both say is it tastes great! Honestly great tasting burger all around. Juicy, hot, but unfortunately feels like the meat itself just needs a HINT of more seasoning. Thankfully for my patty melt, these cheese and onions melded together to be so good. Again, tastes great still, but the meat on its own could use a bit more flavor we feel. It's a testament to a burger to be able to eat just the patty if it was so good, but that wasn't the case here.
Don't let that detract, still tasty, well priced, plenty of variety! Not just burgers.
A BIG bonus: Great music, when you can hear it. Couldn't really hear it when it was primetime but by the time we finished, people were clearing out and in my years in the service industry, I gotta give it up for the music. I heard Boz Scaggs AND Steely Dan back to back before leaving--two captains, if not, admirals of Yacht Rock and from someone that has managed the ambiance in restaurants, it was perfect. Its almost a bulletin in my training of bartenders. Well done.
Long story short, I'm definitely...
Read moreI do not understand how this restaurant made it onto the food network. I don't know if my standards are too high. Or if theirs are too low.
The first thing I would like to say if you are someone or you are taking someone who has a hard time with a loud atmosphere. Do not go here the way that they take back dishes and the structure of the building.Make it very loud and overstimulating.
As for the food I ordered Sam's big breakfast and it underperformed. My biggest gripe is that they did not give me scrambled eggs. Scrambled eggs should be scrambled. They gave me an omelet with no toppings. That omelette with no toppings, was also under salted and spongy. The hash browns that I ordered, we're undercooked on the inside and overcooked on the outside. They tasted like onions and I also found a pepper in my hash browns. The pancakes were so cakey, chewy and rubbery. That I literally spit them out into a napkin. I wouldn't even touch the bacon because I didn't want to be further disappointed. We are currently in our hotel room. And my husband is feeling sick to his stomach and getting sick after only eating their eggs.
Perhaps, the most disheartening thing about this experience is when the waiter came over and my husband said that the food was okay. He just asked only okay, laughed then quickly walked away.
From that point it felt like we were being rushed to leave. I truly believe that they knew how bad the food was because when my husband asked for my meal to be removed, he did not argue. I do not consider that good customer service. Because he didn't try to fix the problem.
If you are looking for greasy food after a long night out.I'm sure this is your place. They have a huge menu with food that is mediocre.
I won't go here again and I will never take...
