My family and I stopped in Antica Napoli, about a block from the Gettysburg square, this past Sunday and had the absolute best pizza & dining experience we have had in a long, long time. We have two ‘Italian’ pizzaria’s around the corner from our house, one is Egyptian and the other is Mexican owned. Their pizzas are good but not great. The pizza at Antica Napoli (meaning “Old Naples” according to the Italian owner) is G-R-E-A-T! The owner served the New York style pizzas at our table, piping hot from the oven. The crust was amazing, brushed in a garlic based butter coating. The pizza sauce was perfect with a just hint of sweetness & lots of tomato goodness. The owner obviously takes great pride in his food, making his own dough, sauces, recipes, etc. We even observed him hand tossing the dough as he was making our pizzas! He not only makes great pizza but he was very engaging with the customers and seemed like a genuinely likeable guy. The restaurant is only a block or so from the main square in Gettysburg, hidden in a small nondescript plaza next to a tourist scooter rental place. It’s easy to miss but definitely worth the effort to find! Our first impression was that the place was very clean & friendly. We were welcomed by the cashier and owner and discovered that this place recently opened under new owners (which means they’re as hungry as we were!). While we were dining, the owner’s wife & kids stopped by with a cake for Father’s Day and even shared it with all the customers in the restaurant!! And to top it off, the owner had just prepared a delicious new Spinach pasta dish and gave us a heaping sample (my wife even had enough for her lunch the next day)! Talk about a family owned business, we even felt like we were part of their family, LOL!!! Can’t wait to go back to Gettysburg to try out more of the menu (and then go to Mr. G's Old Fashioned Ice Cream...
Read moreSo this menu was listed in our hotel book. I googled the restaurant and saw all these great reviews. Well let me say I think they are fake. Food was borderline edible. Alfredo was basically a bland creamy garlic sauce no cheese flavor that is know to be part of the Alfredo experience. The side salad was literally half a handful of wilted lettuce and added sweet peppers and pickles to make it look bigger. I like them but not on my salad! The fries were under cooked and only edible by the extra cheese I requested. And all this took literally 50 minutes to arrrive. Bottom line if its late, you're in a hotel and don't feel like driving and you're starving this food will at least give you a bit of energy until you can find real food. If you're looking for a pleasurable dining experience I recommend driving to the sheetz down the road as their quality and food portions are...
Read moreIn town from Europe to house hunt and while staying in Gettysburg, decided to do our typical Friday night pizza and movie to unwind from a long day of house hunting and also take a break from eating a lot of super heavy foods.
Ordered online from Antica Napoli and went to their small restaurant to pick up. I usually post photos of the food, but to be honest we couldn’t wait to dig into it. Ingredients like spinach and peppers were fresh and you could tell the pills was made by someone who knew and loved their craft.
We are used to a European style thinner crust, but really liked the crust on the pizzas from Antica Napoli. We will definitely order from here again whenever we are in the area, and I highly recommend this small restaurant where a lot of heart obviously goes into their...
