They only use the app for their wait list, so plan ahead. They seated us at the bar. I am 5’10”and my head was just barely over the bar. That made eating ramen easier for me, but I can’t imagine anyone 5’6” or shorter eating at that bar. We ordered the “damn good” roll as a starter, 2 ramens, and 2 beers - he prefers Kirin, I prefer Sapporo. We sampled each other’s beers to see if there was any difference. The Sapporo was sweeter, the Kirin had more bite. About 15 minutes later the ramen arrived. My friend loved his ton katsu with pork. I found my spicy miso ramen to be good, but not great. They use chili flakes and a very small amount of hot oil for the spice, so the broth isn’t spicy. You only get the spiciness when you get a flake. When I got close to the bottom, I felt something large and hard with my chop sticks. It was a large mass of improperly cooked noodles which had melded into a solid mass with noodle fragments coming out of it. Neither chop sticks nor spoon could break it apart. A woman came to take our bowls and I asked her to show it to the kitchen staff. The waiter came and asked if we wanted anything else. We asked about the $25 roll we asked for as a starter. He said he would check on it. He came back and said the sushi bar was backed-up. We were at the bar, so we could see the sushi chefs were just prepping for the evening. The woman who took the ramen bowls came back and only offered a replacement bowl. I declined the 2nd mess. 20 minutes later our roll arrived, and it was very good. I do realize our waiter was the bar tender and at some point he had said he was the only bar tender there for the entire restaurant. This was on Gen Con weekend - one of their busiest of the year. I think this all is a management issue. Other notes on the ramen: almost entirely noodles besides the pork. Some corn, seaweed, a couple pieces of bok choy, and a whole hard boiled egg thrown in. The usual half of a soft boiled egg...
Read moreCame in today for dinner, was pretty busy was about a 40-50 minute wait for 12 parties that were ahead of us, there’s a con in the area so makes sense, had the miso soup which was pretty good, the lava cake dessert was great, the tonkotsu ramen wasn’t really my kind of taste for it, tasted kinda eggy instead of more like beefy The skewers I don’t think are worth the price but weren’t bad, the raspberry and mango tea tasted good but were very watery with the flavorings A member of our party got a alcoholic mixed drink and they didn’t skimp on the alcohol at all like it was pretty overpowering even but that’s not necessarily a good thing it just means it’s worth the price at least of 11$ Do give military discount only on the entree of the member themself Think for it being a busy night the food didn’t come out terribly late but did feel kind of disorganized with the service like missing our starter drinks for quite a while Also the booth sizes are not great for parties over 4, we had 5 people and they tried to sit us into a small booth of 3 and then one for 2 of us, were smaller folks so we just squeezed into one but was still tight, it was either that or the bar and neither are great options for talking and eating comfortably with a group unfortunately
Would come here again with a smaller party and get something that wasn’t the ramen, would get the miso and dessert again and ask for stronger flavorings on the teas
Also small note but the walls while beautiful were pretty dusty and that did take away from it the tiniest bit Still a gorgeous...
Read moreCame here during GenCon so very bad weekend to patronize. They were obviously slammed so poor service was expected. Our sushi came out quickly; our entrees took some time.
Pricing was a bit high but on par with downtown offerings. My "damn good sushi" was decent but not worth $25. Fried rice was nothing to write home about; chicken looked a bit weird and dish overall was not super flavorful; actually had too much protein. Everything was presented nicely and felt upscale.
Lava cake dessert was presented nicely and tasted fine but was something you could buy in the frozen food section for $10 (for 4). They charged $12 here but you also get a scoop of good vanilla. Actually, the Kroger ones look much nicer but you have to buy ur vanilla separate.
Four or five star sushi, 3 star fried rice, likely four or five star service (on a normal night), four star pricing. Would try again on a slower night. Maybe management needs to get more help bc Indy hosts a...
