Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Jackson Township

I gave it a one star only because zero is not an option. After ordering we waited over 20 minutes for our food. When it finally partially arrived, part of it was incorrect and the the fries were stone cold. While waiting for our food, we had to flag down a waitress from another table to get a drink frill. When the orders finally arrived, the side of chili was missing. It took about five more minutes to get the chili. We then asked for hot fries which did arrive fairly quickly. On three of the orders, the burger patties were so over cooked that the were crunchy. The chili was more like water with meat and bean in it. It had apparenlty been microwave so long that it burnt my mouth. It appears that it boilded over and ran all down the sides of the cup, which was only about half way full. It appeared that our waitress really could have cares less as they were all huddled behind the counter talking. Went into the men's restroom which had a pile of brown "substance" in the middle of the floor. When we went to pay at the counter, we were left standing there. There were three people preparing food who ignored us. I called out to them asking if someone was running the register. Two employees looked and me and looked away as if I were an inconvience. After a second time we were told that only a certain employee could check us out. Then a girl took off her gloves and checked us out. I guess it was an inconvenience for them to accept our payment! This was my first visit ever to a Steak and Shake. Based on this visit, I will never return to on again. I wish we had read the numerous reviews about the horrible service. McDonald down the street would have been a much better option and I do not even like McDonalds. Steak and Shake corporate really needs to read their reviews as this location has some...

This used to be a pretty good Steak 'n Shake, but over the past year it has seriously gone downhill. Tonight was the final straw... We took our family to dinner here. We have a large family so we are usually cool with a wait. But we were surprised to find it not that busy on a Saturday night. Unfortunately, it took 20 minutes for them to even acknowledge our presence and sit us. It wasn't that there weren't any tables - they had many open seats - but we weren't even talked to by the many employees who just wandered on by. They were too busy congregating and chatting with each other. We finally were seated, but it took another 15 minutes for a waitress to even stop by our table. So, add it up, 35 minutes in a pseudo-fast food joint and we've not even ordered yet. Take our orders, and we wait. And wait. And wait. Another 15 minutes to get our drinks delivered. Then we don't see our waitress for another 20 minutes. Finally I'd had enough and complained. The "manager" was so helpful (that is sarcasm). But we did get our food and refills within the next 10 minutes. Too bad our order was wrong. We'd ordered apple sauce for our kids but they gave us fries, and one of our kids got cheese on their burgers when we specifically said no cheese. All told, we spent over an hour and twenty minutes at Steak 'n Shake. We've spent less time at busy fancier sit down restaurants. We had below substandard service and our orders were wrong. Every table around us was still dirty, even though people hadn't been at them in some cases for over an hour. Like I said, I am very understanding when a restaurant is busy. But by the time we got our order, the place was empty. This was just bad service and bad management. I can't recommend this restaurant at all. Avoid it because it just keeps...

We went into the restuarant on our way home from Cincinnati and we were hugely disappointed. The staff were friendly but that was about the only positive thing. The restaurant was filthy, one of the guys filled the salt shaker of the table by ours and spilled a ton of salt in the floor and never never cleaned it up while we were there. It took forever to get our food and while it was busy, it certainly wasn't crazy .The food and shake my husband ordered was good but mine is another issue. I ordered a medium fry and a chili 5 way with no onion. First I never got my fries and had to tell our waitress they were missing. While she left to go get those I started to dig into my chili 5 way...loaded with onions. Told the waitress and she took it to get new. Waited about 10 or 15 more minutes for my new chili 5 way. Meanwhile my husband let his food go cold waiting to eat with me. FINALLY my chili 5 way came and I got ready to eat. Guess what, still had onions. There weren't as many so I plucked them out rather than ask for new again. Before we left, I went and visited the restroom while my husband paid. It was the most disgusting restroom ever. Toilets were filthy, floors were filthy, and I am pretty sure the toilet I used wasn't even bolted fully to the ground. I am so glad that we don't live nearby because there is no way on Earth I would ever go...
