Recently dined at Guy Fieri's Dive for the first time after winning a gift card on the radio! Thanks Q104 for that. :) The staff were very friendly and helpful getting the gift card to me and made my drink before I took a number to find a table and wait for food. The wait times were reasonable when I went for Taco Tuesday's but I can see it being a long wait as it fills up more. There are four tacos choices as well as select drinks for their Taco Tuesday specials so get there early and you'll be fine. The vibe here is super chill and decorated uniquely with wall decor and cool furniture pieces so it's a pleasant place to spend time with friends over drinks.
I had been to Guy's before for drinks and will say of all the places in the Power & Light District Guy Fieri's has quality drinks. During my visit I had a house margarita for the first time and it was made very well! When the food came my server was friendly but had many tables to attend to and hurriedly dropped the food and left. Luckily I didn't need anything during the meal however I didn't finish everything but didn't see another server again so I walked out with the leftover food as it was served. I'm fine with less waste anyway so I didn't ask for a box.
I had the empenadas and two fried avocado tacos. I loved everything about the empenadas especially the spicy salsa dip it came with! They were crispy on the outside with a soft potato and other tasty ingredients on the inside. The tacos on the other hand weren't anything to call home about. One of them had barely any avocado on it and were not crispy as anticipated, and to me the toppings were sloppy and lacked substance. It seemed like the attempt to make a reinvented taco like their other unique taco choices was there but this one just didn't do it for me. If I wasn't ordering the tacos during their Tuesday special I wouldn't be happy. At $2/taco it wasn't a huge loss. I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of vegetarian options as the avocado tacos were the only option and they just weren't great!
Overall the lack of substance in the tacos, lack of vegetarian options, along with the price just didn't add up for me and that's why I gave it four stars. In total for a margarita, empenadas, and two fried avocado tacos I spent over $18. So it would be a very expensive ticket to feed another person let alone a family, especially when it's NOT Taco Tuesday. Would not be getting the same things if I wasn't using a gift card. For me the quality, taste, and value just did not add up to the price. The staff were friendly, I like the vibe, and the other items I ordered aside from the tacos were tasty so perhaps I will try to find something else in the future and give it...

Read moreDear Guy Fieri,
This is a review that is painful for me to give as this restaurant was one of the most excited I was to try. I went back and forth between a 3 or 4 star but landed on the 3 star. I hope that you can come help change my mind and get this Dive to a respectable 5 Star that we all want.
All restaurants take some time to get all the kinks out so we know in advance that this may take some time. i was scared to come try Guy's because of all the negative google reviews. Unfortunately most of them are true. I wanted to be critical of the complaints because the reviews talk about parking being bad, wait lines being long and food taking awhile. For me I expected this as this is power and light. I parked in the garage underneath, went during a slow time and luckily our food came out fast.
The food we had was just OK. We tried the Nachos and three different tacos and the food was OK, not bad and not great. I am hoping that if I give this place another try in 6 months things will be turned around. I know cooking is an art and it takes some time to skill your craft. We just need more attention to detail and the details start with food prep. Another detail missed is that we asked for one drink and got another. The drinks are very small and not with the $12 price tag. I know this restaurant will get a lot of tourist visits and that will probably keep is very busy. This is a prime location for anyone going to check out something like Hot Country nights at KC live. But I would love to have this Dive turned around so I can be proud that people are trying good KC food and not wasting their time.
I would like to challenge the staff and Guy himself to take time to visit some of the cities great places to try a taco in town. A taco does not have to be in a box but if you leave the traditional box you just have to do it right. If you are willing to accept this challenge place try the following places.
Taqueria Dos De Oros - 650 E Blue Ridge Blvd El Camino Real - 903 N 7th St Trfy Scott's Kitchen - 11920 N Ambassador Dr
These are three of my favorite taco places in town and all give you an idea of how taco can be great!!
GUY - Don't...
