We’ve travelled all over the country and ate at many restaurants but Ms. Helen is the best server I have EVER had wait on me. The attention to detail, our specific needs, and the effort to make our experience personal is like nothing I’ve ever experienced anywhere else other than maybe at a close friend or relatives home. All our food was perfect and exactly how we ordered it. We travel with our 2 dogs and while we were waiting for our food to arrive I went outside to give our dogs water. We had ordered something for them to snack on before we got on the road and I moved our vehicle to the front of the parking lot so we could keep an eye on them while we ate. Ms. Helen brought their food out to me as soon as it was ready so I could feed them while I was out there. The fact she paid enough attention to see I had moved our vehicle and was giving the dogs water so bringing the food at that same time so as to make things easier for me was mind blowing. When I came back in our food had arrived and even though my grits were piping hot she still offered to bring me a new bowl of them straight from the kitchen. What really amazed me was her asking my name so she could address me personally which I have never had a server do in my life. Our overall experience was phenomenal from the food being absolutely delicious to every one of the staff being so nice and accommodating that they made us feel like family. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone, of all ages whether a family, couple, friends, etc. It’s a relaxed atmosphere where board shorts or slacks will fit right in. This isn’t our first time eating at Donald’s, we eat here every time we’re in town, and we’ve never had a bad experience or not been extremely satisfied with our meal. I ordered the stuffed French toast and eggs Benedict with a side of grits and orange juice. The orange juice is squeezed right there and is so delicious and fresh and the French toast is perfect. It’s more than enough to fill up on and still have some to take home with you. So go see Ms. Helen at Donald’s bc she’s the best server in the...
Read moreHad our last breakfast of our Myrtle Beach trip here. The place is obviously very popular, and I found it to be a good traditional pancake joint, but nothing super spectacular.
The good: The poached eggs were well-prepared, and of all the breakfast joints we went to, this was the only place that got my husband's "soft scrambled" eggs right...everyone else presented what looked like a no-frills omlette instead.
The bad: I don't know if it was the (surprisingly tasteless, bordering on unseasoned) home fries or the onions we'd ordered in them, but something had gone bad. The plates smelled...bad...and after we each took a bite of them, we hastily shoved all the potatoes away from our food, lest the taste travel into the "good" food. Additionally, the toast, and most assuredly the coffee, were both unpalatably burnt.
Because I am a woman of habit, I got the Irish Benedict. Getting it at three different places gave me an interesting range of experiences. At Donald's, although the poached eggs were properly prepared and the hollandaise was good, the corned beef hash was straight out of a can. I can appreciate canned corned beef hash for the nostalgia of it, but after getting housemade hash at Johnny D's and Eggs Up Grill, I can safely say that Eggs Up Grill wins the Benedict battle with a solid gold, with Johnny D's a close second and Donald's a far-distant third.
We were also approached by a photographer at our table, which I found novel and interesting. They give you a free souvenir photo postcard at the end of your meal, with the option of buying one of the three larger photo pose for $15/ea, or 3 for $30. Was it a captive audience gimmick targeted squarely on tourists flush with vacation budgets? Absolutely. But honestly? She was a very good photographer and we were happy to have vacation photos that we didn't...
Read moreright off the bat they set unrealistic expectations they said our wait would be 10 to 15 minutes and it was more like 7 minutes very disappointing things went downhill from there the hostess was friendly almost too friendly like she was hiding something after we were seated our server came over promptly to ask if we were ready to order drinks and was patient as we bumbled around for a minute thinking about what we wanted she was also very friendly similar to the hostess maybe a little too friendly she brought our drinks to us quickly was kind to our kids and patiently and accurately took our order which made me think maybe they’re overcompensating for a bad meal to come i also have to mention that our table was impeccably clean our food came out lightning fast too fast really we did not even have a chance to get bored and they even brought syrup without us having to ask for it like 4 times server kept my coffee cup full and had the nerve to check on us multiple times to see how we were doing they took our picture gave us a complementary postcard with it on there and were very nice when we said we didn’t want to pay for an additional picture of us oh yeah the food was really good and tasty how dare they when it came time to pay our bill that’s when things got really bad if you can believe it after all of this happened to us they gave us a terribly reasonable bill and despite the terribly yummy food and terribly great service and after that our server had the nerve to thank us and tell us to have a great day it’s not like this was a one time thing every time we have come here it’s like this so freaking ridiculous 5 stars only because we can’t rate them higher we will absolutely not not...
