An interesting experience that I don't really want to repeat. Went there because it was close to our hotel and we could walk. It's essentially a dive bar with a high opinion of itself. I had just turned 65 and my wife and I were carded at the door (she's a bit older). Was told we would have to order at the bar as there was no table service (what??) so we sat at the bar. We were just looking for a sandwich and a beer. I will admit that the service from the bartender was good, but we were the only ones there when we came in (hmmm). Anyway, I god the Reuben and she got the brat. Both served with chips and potato salad (two potatoes?). I thought the Reuben was pretty good but my wife was disappointed with the brat (for what it cost). Granted it was as advertised, but a brat that is only boiled without a grill finish and a steamed but instead of a quick grilling leads to a mushy, unflavored brat. The potato salad was actually very good. Nick, the bartender, was friendly and helpful and interesting to talk to and the beer was good. The only real problem was after we got the bill. What was handed to us was accurate so we paid by credit card and left a cash tip. Since Nick did all of the credit card work, we saw only the bill. After leaving, I got a text (get one for every transaction on the card) and I saw that we had been charged almost $10 more (a tip had been included that we had not authorized). Went back to the bar a few minutes later. Found a new person carding people so got carded -again- and then wanded (really??). Talked to Nick about the problem and he said the system automatically did that (but it wasn't mentioned during the transaction after showing the cash tip). He said it would be updated when the charge went out of the pending state (and you were right, Nick. Sorry). Still, it should have been brought up when we paid and would have saved me another trip there. While this place was ok, probably wouldn't go back unless there was no other choice. Did not have this happen at any other nearby place. BTW, took one star off for service because of the door entry, not...
Read moreThe barback and security are so rude. 1) They closed down the patio at 130am and online claimed to close at 3am. I nicely asked them to keep just one table open because it was so cold inside for me. They said that wasn't going to happen, they were officially closing the patio. 2) They say that they close at 3am and ended up shoving us out the door at 245am saying they were closed and we couldn't even use the bathroom before we left. Who does that? Who doesn't let someone use their bathroom after you paid for your drinks? Don't go here because they also will serve you cheap watered down drinks (I used to be a bartender). They pour literally for a 1 second count and then fill the rest with your mixer of choice. I honestly have never been treated so poorly, as I am a visitor to this city. I am a flight attendant who travels the world and loves to visit local places around the different cities I stay in. This was by far one of the worst bars to go to. Don't waste your time even as a local. I landed at midnight local here and we were looking for a late night bar to visit on our layover. This was apparently not it. After getting to the hotel, changing and then going out for just a drink or two, we made the wrong choice. Hopefully the next time we visit we find a place...
Read moreThis was my 1st and now last time here at red door. Pete was the bartender we ordered from. I came in with a friend, we asked for a water and menus. We stood at the end of the bar while pete took care of others without so much as a glance in our direction. We ordered, got a number, started a tab at 6:30pm.
8:15ish, i get a notification that i spent $80.33 at red door, which was confusing as we ARE STILL HERE(3/14/24). So i, went to ask what happened, because after we ordered our food, our tab was $46, so how did i spend $80.
I went to talk to pete, he said "i had to close your tab because day shift ended and night shift started. I gave myself 20%. I can get you the check if you want."
I am a server AND a bartender downtown. At no point, did ANYONE say anything to us about needing to close our tab. Pete knew EXACTLY who i was when i walked to the bar, so he KNEW i was still here. Had i had a chance to tip, it probably wouldn't have been 20%. Pete rang in our order, poured me a coke and my friend 2 drinks. He did not run our food, did not check on us, did not see if we needed a refill, nothing.
I don't and wont understand why this happened, but i wont be returning and i think anyone who wants to come here should...
