I stopped by The Row in Nashville on a stormy Friday afternoon around 1:30 or 2:00 PM, and the place was pretty quiet. I chalk that up to the thunderstorms rolling through and the fact that it’s a bit off the beaten path—tucked away from the hustle of Broadway. Nashville isn’t exactly buzzing on a Friday afternoon anyway, so the lack of a crowd wasn’t too surprising (evenings is when it’s nuts).
The Row serves up classic American Southern cuisine with a Nashville twist. The menu’s got all the staples you’d expect—Nashville hot chicken, burgers, sandwiches, steak frites, and even shrimp and grits (if I’m remembering right). The food was good. I went for the cowboy burger, which came loaded with tangy fried onions. It was juicy and tasty, though I felt it could’ve packed a little more flavor to really wow me. In hindsight, I should have explored the menu a little more instead of settling on a burger—there were so many intriguing options that might have elevated the experience. My wife tried their take on a BLT, featuring a fried green tomato and a fried egg. It was a creative spin, and she said it was really good—definitely a highlight.
Service was polite and solid, no complaints there. The staff did their job well, and the slow day clearly wasn’t their fault. The atmosphere was good, with a strong Nashville country music vibe—cool graphics and designs on the walls showcasing the history of the genre and bios of country stars. It’s the kind of decor that makes you feel like you’re in the heart of Music City, and it’s spot-on for the experience they’re going for. That said, the unusually warm March heat made it really hard to sit outside, where they defaulted us to seating despite the humidity. With the inside empty, we had to ask to move indoors—not sure why they didn’t offer that option upfront.
Overall, I’d give The Row a 4 out of 5. The food was good but left me wanting just a bit more in the taste department. The vibe and service were on point, though the outdoor seating was initially too warm and humid for us. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a laid-back Southern meal with a Nashville feel—especially if you catch it on a...
Read moreMy feeling was that the reviews that led me to come here really overhyped the place. It was not bad, just kinda "meh".
Waiter was good. He was timely, didnt check on us too much or too little. Was helpful in giving additional info about the menu. Was never far away and we weren't left needing anything during the meal.
The food was mid. I had the hot chicken. The initial bites were pretty tasty. The included pancake was a bit weird. Ive not had much Nashville style Hot Chicken, but I think simple toast would have been better because the sweetness of it distracted from the other flavors on the plate. The breading came off of the chicken far too easily. Im no chef, but i am pretty competent in the kitchen and this tends to happen when you don't dry the chicken before the dredge, or if you don't allow it to set before the fry. The liquid underneath the breading steams and keeps the breading from sticking to the chicken. The last few bites ended up being just plain chicken breast. We also had their row poppers, which were really good, and were thoroughly bad-for-you in just the right way. Yea, yea, yea... Jalapeno poppers are pretty generic bar food, but these really hit the spot. Would definitely recommend them!
The atmosphere was decent. The old wooden floors and tin ceiling added to the feel. The smokey smell wafting through the restaurant was also pleasant, and not overpowering. What didn't was the country music coming from the bar area at the same time as the rap music from the kitchen, which blended into a cacophony of garbled noise. Probably more of a problem with where we were seated and more noticeable with it being a slow night, but it was a bit problematic for a music oriented place to have...
Read moreWe came for a late dinner spontaneously into The Row Kitchen & Pub in Nashville - and would have better chosen any of the Fast Food Parlors. The Pub is completely understaffed - on this night we saw 3 persons working which was way too few for the full rooms. The service was super nice but you felt the stress these poor people have to handle. And so also everything just took way longer as estimated.
After some waiting we got a nice table in the mainroom with the bar. Good Live Music was playing. After some waiting we got our drinks, after more waiting we could order food. And there the evening went down like a depressive country song. The portions are laughable, and the prices called for them are outrageous. The deviled eggs - 5 different decorations, only 1 taste as if Mayo is the only spice. If I order Meatloaf I don't want an non-salted tasting menu-sized Lego Brick of charcoaled mystery meat (Check the picture!). And I still can’t estimate how a chef manages to produce mashed potatoes without any taste and totally cold. And why would they like to serve that to their Guests? If that is southern cooking, someone should invent pepper and butter in it. It also didn’t make a difference that the red marinara sauce was probably out of a Heinz Bottle. The Chicken Fried Steak surprised us with some of the most greyish colors i ever saw in cooked and fried food - again Mystery meat that was free from taste or temperature. At least we were sure that this animal had been dead for a long time.
If you are in Nashville - pass The Row. You will easily find...
