Condescending service and very mean staff. I ordered a cake few days ago for 7/4 celebration in LI. They advertised that they have pick ups in the lic location on their ig on that day and I dmed them to confirm pickup at 7/4 noon time. Fast forward to the pickup time—- the female staff told me they don’t have it now and was expected to have the cake at 5pm??? When i tried talking to her and ask how that happened, she was unapologetically defending herself like oh our system said the earliest cake pickup was supposed to be at 5pm. Then I tried to explain that I was talking to someone on their ig and how I wanted to either get the cake at 7/3 before closing time or 7/4 noon so I can get it in time to go to a party that day. She got upset and said well I am not the person on ig talking to you. I was DUMBFOUNDED and realized that no matter what I say, she will talk back basically saying it’s not her fault. Later she told me that they can have it at 1:30pm. I had to ask someone else to help me pick it up- he didnt know that they charge extra 2$ for forks and knives so he asked for it. The staff was so rude and said oh we can’t give that. I know that I technically didn’t pay for that extra $2 but this is just an example of how unapologetic they were despite what they made us go through!!! I don’t know if it is my fault that I made her come on a 7/4 day to work but why is she putting out her anger on us?? Beware of planning a cake on a special day because it seems like they DO NOT COMMUNICATE. In addition, I paid $95 for this cake. Look at it for yourself. My first thought was this cake was almost $100???? That’s it?? It looks so sad and nothing compared to the pictures on their website. While we were waiting for cake, I messaged the ig page again for clarification. One business day later, I was...
Read moreI called ahead to make sure I got all the details right. The person who answered the phone was very swift and made sure to let me know that it would be $42 per person. After tax, my bill was a grand total of about $102 (I decided to also throw in a slice of basque cheesecake with the high tea experience. The cake was tiny and honestly not worth it).
The indoor space was clean, and there is an outdoor space for dining when it isn't raining.
You get a choice of either a pot of tea, or 2 cold drinks. Because there were only 3 hot tea options, we decided to get cold drinks instead. They were tasty! Mango green tea and sparkling passionfruit were our choices.
You only get a choice of one mousse dessert, so we chose a pistachio dessert. From the photos online, I was under the impression that there would be more than one mousse dessert on our spread, so I was pretty sad about that. But still, we liked almost everything that was given. In the future, I would like to try their other mousse desserts.
We wished that there was a more detailed menu for high tea, because my mother wasn't able to eat any of the hard breads that came in the spread, particularly for the mini avocado proscuitto toast. Having a detailed menu is particularly important for those with allergies or food sensitivities, but that thankfully didn't apply to us.
My biggest qualm was the price point, as it would make it hard for people to experience this more than once. But I recommend anyone try afternoon tea at least once in their lifetime, especially if you like to try new things.
I didn't get the name of the person who served us, but he was very kind and...
Read moreI was so excited to try this place and would say I had a decent experience. We went around noon on a Sunday and it seemed like they didn’t have a lot of the desserts available; so to be fair, I would go back to try more. But from what we tried there were hits and misses. The montblanc was delicious- tons of chestnut flavor and great texture, as was the uji matcha raspberry mousse- fluffy, light, on the sweet side. Hazelnut mousse cake was true to flavor, what you would expect. I would not order any of the fruit tarts again, we got the grape and blackberry. The ratio of filling and custard to crust was off (way to much hard crust). And although the grapes look like they would be out of this world, they tasted like basic green grapes, which fair enough, is what the dessert is called haha. We also got the chicken floss beckham cheese buns and will update this review when we try them. The hazelnut hot chocolate was also rich and like liquid ferrero rocher which I enjoyed. The space is much smaller than it looks in posted pictures but is well decorated and cute. Loved the artwork on the walls but calling it a gallery might be a stretch, but it’s NYC so I appreciate what they’re trying to do. I didn’t feel like the server was too helpful but she was very nice. I also felt like the prices were reasonable for the desserts we got. I will def be back in hopes of trying more of the modern desserts.
Edit: the chicken floss buns . Umm… I’m not even sure what to say. I could barely swallow the bite I took, and that’s something I rarely say. And it came recommended by the person who helped us....
