Bareburger Smash Club — Restaurant in New York

For a place with so many overwhelmingly positive reviews, my experience here was... a bit strange.

Pros: Price is very reasonable for this area. Burgers range from $16-$20 and on weekday lunches you can get a combo for $1 more. This is really solid! Though I did not personally try today, this place has many vegetarian and vegan options. My server Keora was fantastic and did her absolute best to try and rectify all the problems below.

Cons: The restaurant was closed when their signage said they'd be open. They ended up opening about half an hour after the posted time after apologizing and asking me to stand outside for an additional 15 minutes. I got a plain burger despite not ordering one (which was fortunately fixed by my server who got me a side of all the toppings). One of my patties was a medium-well to well while the other one was borderline rare? The burger was fine overall. Nothing particularly bad but nothing particularly good stood out either. I am a bit confused at the inconsistency though. The QR code payment was a nightmare. I'm surprised more reviews didn't bring it up. On top of wave after wave of concerning dark patterns, the site discreetly slides in a "platform fee" on the final screen before charging you in hopes that you won't notice.

I'm overall very impressed by the service but don't see it as enough to offset the assortment of problems I encountered. Perhaps my experiences were an unlucky one-off if so many other customers are satisfied, or maybe people just don't notice the hidden surprise...

EXCELLENT VEGAN ITEMS!!!

I'm from Atlanta, visiting NYC. I had passed this place walking early on my way to one of the thousand Duane Reed stores in this city, and saw the words "PLANT-BASED" so I took a pic of the name. Decided to order from them at around 7:55 PM and received my DoorDash order at 8:15...very prompt.

I had no expectations, and the presentation didn't help that, cause looking at it almost made me not eat it, but OMG...never judge a book by it's cover, as they say...this stuff is DELISH!!!!

I ordered the PB chicken nuggets, which are OUTSTANDING, and I am not a fan of any kind of chicken nugget, but I was EXCEEDINGLY pleasantly surprised with the flavor. Taste just like the chicken I once ate...LOL. I also ordered the mixed fries, YUM!!! With Wham Bam sauce, a dark red sauce that tastes a bit like a very spicy BBQ sauce, the Organic Garlic Aioli, which is a white mayo-looking sauce that has a very mild garlic flavor, not too overwhelmingly garlicky (which I would've LOVED) but a hint to let you know it's there, and the Creamy Honey Mustard, which doesn't taste like what it is. Kind of a bland flavor, not my fave.

Overall, I am surprised and satiated. Great PB nuggets. I will definitely order from there again and...

I live right around the corner and have been here multiple times, I actually quite like the food but the bartender was almost unbelievably rude and obnoxious. At the time I was there it was myself and my girlfriend, a married couple with a baby, and an old man - the bartender was BLASTING European electronic dance music in an otherwise quiet and tame restaurant with no one sitting at the bar or drinking. When I asked him politely to turn down the music he said he was “unable to turn down the music” which I’ve never heard in my life; when I then asked if he could then turn it off given the atmosphere and patrons were unfitting of the blasting, electronic music he said he was unwilling to do so. I got up and left, I have brought multiple friends here and other people. This should be in a textbook as a 101 lesson on how to lose repeat customers by being extremely rude and unaccommodating to the people who pay your bills, tips, and patronize your business.
