The food here was pretty delicious and inexpensive. There's often a line here through the day and night, so I definitely suggest hopping in line ASAP, especially if it's a short line! Because in the span of a new York minute there's all of the sudden a line of people behind you waiting for food from the same place. I commend the staff here for their efforts and hard work!! It takes a lot to run a business in a successfully in such a fast paced environment and do it safely!! The staff also communicated well with each other which is super important when taking food orders! FOOD HERE will cost you about $10-$20 per person. If memory serves me, space here is limited, as it fills up fast. No disrespect or anything, I just want to help here. So I will say that if you're someone who's in a wheelchair, this isn't the place you want to eat. It's not really disability friendly, the isles are small and the tables and counters are higher than what anyone sitting in a wheelchair would want to tolerate. Just so we are all clear on that. There's no ramps here or anything for handicap peoples. (There's also NO parking here.)
Atmosphere is okay. I didn't see anything that WOWed me here. there was no kind of art or decor that would be worthy of a photo (in my opinion). It's okay for a quick bite and some people watching. The food is the main reason to visit. I say it's worth a bite if you have time check it out. They also have a nice little gelato place next door for dessert too. đ„°đ They hook it up at the gelato place so maybe get the smallest size first! Believe me, they pack a lot into that tiny little cup, you won't be disappointed and they have a decent enough variety of flavors. Again, lines can be a bit long here too, but it's got the lil cute kind of fancy kind of atmosphere a shop like that should have (IMO), staff is friendly, place looked clean, I highly recommend it. đ„°đŻ
P.s. love corn tortilla but I HIGHLY recommend making it flour tortilla instead đŻ, you can thank...
Read moreIâll give you some information on my background.
Hispanic male who lives in south Texas. Born and raised eating authentic Mexican food.
Drove from South Texas to Maine and then came down to New York. Was without eating Mexican food for roughly 8 days and my Mexican sugar levels were extremely LOW. My body was needing some Mexican food to survive.
After checking in to the hotel we walked straight here as it was close by (9 minute walk) and had good reviews.
Iâll be fair, the tacos were a SOLID 7. Iâve had much better but Iâve also had much worse. Considering how far away we are from the nearest Mexican / American border town, I would call it a win.
Pros:
The corn tortillas were decent. Lines move fast. Guac is not extra (finally something authentic). Plenty of salsa and lemon to go around. Aguas Frescas are decent.
Neutrals: Meats are not salted (according to the cook I spoke with). So you just add salt to your tacos or theyâre gonna be missing a punch. This is not a huge downer. Sitting is actually standing. If youâre tired of walking and want a place to sit youâre gonna have to go out to the heat.
Cons: The flour tortillas left something to wish for. I would not order flour tortillas here. They donât have fresh cheese (not very Mexican of them!) Service was subpar, not sure if itâs because Iâm used to âsouthern hospitalityâ, but the workers sort of just go through the motion and seem annoyed if you ask a question or two. (Although this is something Iâve noticed of people up north, canât even get a simple thanks if you hold the door open). Price!! Outrageous to be getting charges $6 bucks for a single taco when I can get 3 of them back home. I guess this is the New York tax. The food plates donât come with tortillas. This has to be the most unauthentic part about the restaurant. Anywhere else in the world you order a Mexican plate you get tortillas.
Overall this place is a 7 in my book as the food is good enough especially if youâve never had Mexican...
Read moreThis review is coming from a Mexican who has traveled to multiple places in Mexico and happens to live in Deep South Texas. I feel like I happen to know a thing or two about authentic Mexican street tacos. You canât get any closer to Mexican street tacos than these guys. All their establishments across the city are always packed with customers. And itâs totally understandable! You can grab your aguas frescas here. Or better yet, an authentic Mexican soda pop. I havenât even gotten to describing the clean salsa station. They have a variety of self serve salsas nestled in their molcajetes alongside one wall. There werenât any tables for folks to sit and dine, no big deal! Just grab your order, stand around on the tall counters and munch away, or take them to go, (which is what we did). The trompo, spinning in the background as the gentleman gracefully slices the meat for my tacos, brought me back to my roots. The ladies making their corn tortillas right in front of you, was an added bonus. Not only is this a food establishment, it is a field trip for those folks who canât come to Mexico for their street tacos. Did I mention quality and flavor?! Amazing! Wonât disappoint at all! The only drawback, the dollar signs. Youâre gonna spend quite a pretty penny...
