At 7:40am on Monday morning while on my way to work and ok taking my 7 month old son to daycare, I needed to refill my metro card. I went to the two machines available in the station which stated “coins only”, no cash accepted, no debit card, no credit card. I was pushing my baby in the stroller so I needed to go through the gate. I informed the two officers in the photo that the machine was only accepting coins, they told me they couldn’t let me in the train. I showed them my wallet in which I had ample cash, a debit card, and credit card. They still refused to assist. I then tried to use the tap feature which was not working on the gate. Please understand, my card was working it was the MTA machinery which was malfunctioning. Eventually, after almost 10 minutes trying to find a way to get into the train station and sympathetic token booth clerk who assisted with entry. I am almost certain if a white woman pushing a carriage with a 7 month old baby asked for assistance entering the train station, given all the circumstances beyond the customer’s control as indicated in this review l, the officers would assist. First, blame is to be placed upon the MTA for not having functioning mechanisms of payment for customers on Monday morning. I don’t know anyone who walks around with 3 dollars in coins, secondly common sense not racism needs to be applied to the discretion of...
Read moreExcept one of a bad incident where it was way too crowded and a lot of people running round, overall, I had a really positive experience at Penn Station in New York during my visit. It’s a very central and convenient hub, which made it easy for me to connect to various subway lines and long-distance trains. The location is perfect for getting around the city, and the station is well-connected to other parts of Manhattan.
The station was clean, and I appreciated the variety of food options available, which helped make my wait much more comfortable. The signage was clear enough to guide me to the right platforms, and I didn’t feel too confused or lost. The staff I interacted with was friendly and quick to offer assistance when needed, which made my time there smoother.
Although it’s busy, especially during peak hours, I didn’t feel overwhelmed. The trains were on time, and everything ran relatively smoothly. Overall, I had a great experience, and while there’s always room for improvement, Penn Station did a solid job of meeting my needs during my visit. Would...
Read moreI have traveled thru Penn Station 4 times per week to go to NJ. The train station is very busy and the station runs 24 hours. The bathrooms are well kept, and there is always someone there who can assist with traveling info.
I have been traveling thru Penn Station for over 10 years now, and I have never seen so many homeless people. Sadly, there are a lot of homeless people and some drug addicts at this location now. Sometimes, walking down the stairs at the far end of the platform coming off the 2 train makes me feel unsafe. There are always one or 2 mental-ill people hanging out there. Having the presence of the officers at the location makes me feel safer while traveling at 5 am.
There are a lot of small businesses here, especially ones that serve food. Some of them open at 6 a.m., so you can grab a quick breakfast. Overall, traveling thru Penn Station is not so bad. You have the NJ Transit, Long Island RailRoad, and the Amtrak. This place is a little hub that can take you almost anywhere in...
