I wish I could leave Yosu Sushi a good review. My friend and I sat down to eat at 6 pm and ordered ramen, katsu chicken, agedashi tofu, a Hawaiian roll, and a spicy tuna roll. While my friend got her katsu chicken and soup, I was left waiting 1 hour for my food. The waitress did bring us appetizers we NEVER asked for with my friend's food like edamame and calamari. After flagging the waitress down we asked how much longer it would take for the rolls and she told us 10-15 minutes. I was still really hungry after eating some but not all the appetizers she brought us without asking so decided to wait 10 minutes. We canceled our order at 7:10 pm and almost left after paying when I checked our receipt and saw that she did charge us $16 for appetizers we didn't want. I would have been okay paying that price if she had been honest about wait times and apologized for the mistakes on our order. However, when I requested a refund she haggled and continued to waste 15 minutes of my time. She tried to appease us by giving us free soda! She offered us two sprites and two coca colas, but that was an obvious insult to our intelligence after messing up our order and claiming we got what we wanted. Finally, the sushi chef noticed us arguing with the waitress and took a look at my receipt and agreed to refund us for the appetizers. I really hate seeming entitled, but I have never left a restaurant feeling so insulted and hungry before. I love sushi and I wanted to love You sushi, but after driving from Eugene for a concert I was so let down and disappointed. I would have been okay going elsewhere if I didn't have an event to go to at 8 pm. Sidenote: we also witness another pair cancel their order and we saw two friends dine and dash. It's obvious they lack in customer service. I decided to attach a photo of the...

TL;DR: Good sushi, unforgettable Portland dining.

After years of searching for my favorite sushi spot in Portland, I finally found Yosu.

Now, I won’t say it’s the best sushi in the city, I’m probably not qualified to do that, and honestly, there’s a food truck that still wins my heart for pure quality.

My sample size was small, though. I only had one roll, the Red Dragon Roll. It wasn’t life-changing, but it was solid. It’s what you would expect from your sushi options in town. The calamari, though, was chef’s kiss, lightly breaded, crispy, and meaty in all the right ways. The miso soup was fine/good, and the cucumber salad was fresh and interesting (though the martini glass presentation was awkward to eat from).

Where Yosu really stands out is the experience. The place nailed its mix of traditional Japanese art and Portland quirk. Big glowing windows on Broadway, fun neon lighting, fun spacey murals and music that actually adds to the vibe. The plating was the cutest and most fun I’ve ever seen, and the staff’s traditional-style jackets tie the whole theme together perfectly.

I felt that someone truly cares about all of the small details and I really appreciate that.

Whether you are visiting Portland and looking for a memorable sushi experience, or you live here, Yosu is absolutely...

I don’t like giving places poor reviews especially at a place like this that has kind staff. But my groups of friends had a pretty bad experience there. Two of my friends got really sick from one of the sushi rolls they shared. The server spoke limited English so it was hard to communicate about the bill at the end but I’m pretty sure we were charged for more food than we actually ordered. She had brought out gyozas for us that we didn’t order and said “on the house” but then later put this on our bill. I called later to reconcile the bill. To their credit they did go through our bill in detail to see what we had ordered, but I’m still certain that some items were not ordered but still charged.

As other people have stated here, the food was brought out at very different times so that some people were completely done with their meals before the last people were served. The sushi itself tasted decent but all of the above mishaps were not at all worth our money. We won’t...

I don’t think I’ll be coming back. I ordered the salmon ikura bowl and my friend got the dragon roll and salmon belly nigiri. 1. It took way too long for my food to come out. The restaurant wasn’t even busy but my friend’s food came first and she was already halfway through her meal when mine finally arrived. 2. The rice wasn’t sushi rice. It was just plain white rice. I’ve been to many sushi restaurants and this was the first time I’ve been served regular white rice with sushi. It was honestly surprising. 3. For a salmon ikura bowl, the ikura was barely there. It felt like they just sprinkled a few on top like pepper. 4. Both the salmon and ikura didn’t taste fresh. Sadly the quality felt below average and it just wasn’t worth the money.
