The best dining experiences make people feel seen, make them feel welcome, and give them a sense of belonging. The cuisine, the service, the design, are all simply ingredients in the grand recipe of human connection.
This is the magic of The Capital Grille, Salt Lake City.
When I am not dividing my time between Laguna Beach, California, and Salt Lake City, Utah, I travel all around the U.S. and around the world. I have eaten at many fabulous restaurants in my travels, but in 2022, The Capital Grill is now my favorite restaurant experience in the city which I call home.
Dining is not just about great food, a good price, or fantastic, consistent service - it is about the combined experience of the cuisine, the atmosphere, the energy, the service, the people - all of this comes together at the Capital Grille in an amazing syncopated cacophony that stimulates all five senses.
Bill Bowler, the General Manager, is as gregarious as he is charming, and he welcomes you into his restaurant as you would someone into your own home. He has years of experience, impeccable attention to detail, and delivers a five-star experience every time.
Your dining adventure begins as soon as you walk in the door; Kylie, Katie, Holland, Maeve, and Madison are the most amazing hostesses you will ever encounter. The wait-staff is attentive, intuitive, responsive, yet unobtrusive (ask for for Gabi, he sets the bar very high!) They have an incredible wine selection, a full bar, and the bartenders (Amelia, Ashley, Bill, and Mitchell) are always simply perfect in every way.
We just hosted our company Christmas Party at the Capital Grille - Kathryn Maiser, the event coordinator KNOCKED it out of the park and all employees, guests, and I had THE best time (and everyone is already talking about next years' holiday party!).
This review would not be complete without mentioning the wonderful menu, the consistent dining experience, and the impeccably prepared appetizers, entrees, and dessert selections.
While New York may find me at Le Bernadin, New Orleans at Bar Marilou, Le Comptoir while in Paris, The Capital Grille is always on my mind, my first choice, and my love when I am in Salt Lake City.
Congrats to Bill, and his entire team - thank you for all...
Read moreThe Capital Grille is my favorite chain of steakhouses. That being said, I expected there to be extra polish on the staff, with them just opening and the above and beyond service just been installed in the team, however, I was slightly disappointed. Before I continue, I want to say the food was on par with what I've come to expect from The Capital Grille. The oysters were delectable, with the mignonette on point. The wedge salad was delectable, and the pork belly bits simply melted and added the perfect but of savoriness to the iceberg. Just thinking of the steak has my mouth salivating and mind dreaming of the perfectly cooked strip au poivre melting on my tongue. Now the improvements... The host team looked wonderful and the perfect first impression, however much of the service staff looked disheveled in poorly (if at all) pressed shirts and coats. Our server/bartender wasn't even in the service uniform, but a faded black top. While she was nice, she wasn't on top of service, as we asked about the lockers, and she tried to explain it, fumbled over the description and said she'd have a manager stop by - which never happened. The timing of our courses was strange, and food runners didn't know how to remove plates when dropping courses that were landing while the prior course was still finishing, so we ended up with an overcrowded table for two. A manager did stop by to check on us, but no mention of the lockers was made, and he just seemed more interested in talking with a VIP sitting a couple tables away, because all three managers seemed to congregate around that table for the latter portion of my meal. I definitely will be back for the food, but was disappointed I wasn't offered a black linen for my black dress pants like I have at other locations, I hope that the limited wine selection grows as special orders begin to arrive, or the bar manager figures out Utah laws, and I'm hopeful the staff looks more put together and what I expect when I dine at The Capital Grille in other cities. Thanks for coming to...
Read moreWe dined at the Capital Grille for our anniversary. They truly went the extra mile to make everything special and it showed. When we arrived the table was decorated and had a handwritten anniversary card waiting for us.
We ordered cocktails - the blackberry sidecar and the Cosmo and they were great - strong in the best way. We then had the lobster and crab cakes for our appetizer along with the complimentary breads. The bread was fresh and delicious. The lobster and crab cakes were great! They had plenty of large chunks of meat and were very flavorful. Next, we shared the French onion soup. Next time I would definitely each order our own, because it was so incredible I didn’t want to share! Truly the best I have ever had, and I can’t stop thinking about it even still!
For our main course my husband had the special of the night, a bone in filet, and I had the kona coffee rubbed filet with shallot butter. Both were absolutely fantastic - cooked to perfection, juicy and tender, and so much flavor. For our sides we had the lobster Mac and cheese and the soy glazed bacon Brussels sprouts. Whatever you do, DON’T skip the Brussels sprouts! They were AMAZING! The lobster Mac was also so delicious and cooked extremely well with large pieces of lobster throughout. With dinner we also had a glass of I believe the summer breeze rose and it was excellent.
For dessert we were brought a cute plate that said happy anniversary that had a sampling of their chocolate espresso cake and brûlée cheesecake with fresh berries. We also ordered a crème Brûlée. All three desserts were delicious. I have never had cheesecake brûléed and it was to die for.
We can’t wait to go back and dine here again. The experience was so fantastic and the food...
