The restaurant itself looks pretty cool. Reminds me a of a hip Brooklyn restaurant. It had some god music and lightning. Unfortunately everything else kinda felt short. We sat at a table by the bar and the service we received was ok not great. I wish the bartender was our server but unfortunately he was not. I can tell the bartender was from the east coast U.S maybe NY or NJ. Our actual server was defineyly local, it seemed like this may be her first job as a waiter. One of the dishes we wanted to order was a chicken dish that apparently they were out of. Mind you we were dining around 5:30-6pm so they started service without one of there best dishes. We asked for pasta with butter for my youngest who hasn’t yet much developed a pallet. After ordering our food she came back to tell us the kids pasta comes with white sauce and cheese which is already pre tossed some how. This leads me to believe it’s either not fresh or bought already this way. Very odd…. Anyways we ordered a few cocktails, appetizers and main courses. The cocktails were pretty delicious, a tad light on alcohol but definitely tasty. They brought out all the food at once. So we received our appetizers and entrees at the same time. The all meat paella was very tasty but very very small portion. I had a paella a few blocks away the day before which was tremendously bigger and tastier at the Cueva Del Mar. I honestly kept thinking to myself why we didn’t just go back there. The tostones that came with the paella were stone cold, zero salt on them. Pretty much like waiting cold salt less fries. My wife’s snapper dish was ok I guess, def not something to brag about. The flavors were kinda mild and plain. My daughter kids churassco with rice was cold. The steak itself should have not been served cold, the rice that same with it was good. To back track a little we were never offered water or a second round of drinks. When our food arrived we had no side dishes for the appetizers. I had to ask the bartender since the server was constantly missing in action. I know for sure had we been served by the bartender,we would have had a much better experience. I get what this place is trying to to be, sheet, hip and tapas style or at least it appears so. But when you try and go that route you need food and service to deliver at a high level. I would not give this place another shot since I have found a lot better options on Loíza. We ended up spending $150 for 3 people since they didn’t have any food for my youngest daughter to eat. She doesn’t like yellow rice and they didn’t have white rice as an option. The best dish I had was the meat lovers paella which was very tasty but again left me hungry since it’s a small pot it comes in. They also didn’t offer pasta with butter only white sauce and cheese since somehow it’s all premixed already. We had to take my daughter to McDonald to get a happy meal immediately after leaving there. Unfortunately the best thing this restaurant has going for itself is the decor and bar. Everything...
Read moreAbsolutely abysmal experience. My friend and I both ordered food/drinks shortly after arriving at the restaurant and received our drinks within a reasonable time frame. However, we waiting nearly an hour for our food, which was literally just fries and fried plantains. We were even planning to order more, but nobody cared to tell us that the kitchen was short-staffed that night so we A) would have to wait a long time for our food and B) would be unable to place any additional food orders due to the kitchen closing early. We only learned this information after asking about what happened to our order, and the server acted surprised that we didn’t know the kitchen was closing early because she apparently made sure to tell every table but ours.
While I understand that the restaurant cannot help if they’re short-staffed, it would have been nice to have this communicated to us and have the restaurant offer us a drink on the house as an apology.
Please save your time and money for a...
Read moreUnfortunately never got to experience the rooftop due to rain but had drinks one night and valentines dinner the next night. Drinks were very good both nights. Valentines dinner was a bit of a mess with the rain and a backed up kitchen but our server was incredibly nice - even though he was stressed beyond belief and looked ripe for a breakdown. All with a smile on his face. Didn’t catch his name but he deserves a vacation and a raise! Got our wine comped cause there was cork in it. And my espresso martini came out 3 minutes after my girlfriends. Not a big deal but that got comped as well!
Food was really good. Alcapurrias and empanadas were amazing. Modern and elevated versions of Latin American classics. GFs red snapper was really good and I loved my churrasco. Tostones were ok.
Service was a bit slow but always nice and friendly. Couldn’t check out the roof but looks nice. Interior was modern and sleek. Not too dark but on the darker side. Really nice valentines dinner....
