My wife and I have been going to ETang on Oglethorpe for years and itās always excellent food and service, so we knew our first trip to the new Dim Sum location on Whitaker wouldnāt disappoint. They do have big shoes to fill with the location being the former Asian Fusion spot, Co, with Whitakerās Bar upstairs which had recently departed, but I donāt think that will be any problem at all.
We walked in and were immediately greeted by the most chipper gentleman named Felix, with a big smile. He showed us to our table and was justā¦nice. Incredibly nice. Nothing overbearing as sometimes a server can beā¦but just such a genuine human. Iām not sure if Felix is an owner or a manager, but I was having a bad day and in a poor mood and that instantly went away after meeting Felix. You could tell he just cared nothing more than to make sure that we (and the other patronsā¦the place filled up!) had the best experience we could have.
And we sure did. Iām a sucker for dumplings of all shapes and sizes, and they have em all. We got the scallion pancakes, crystal shrimp dumplings, pan fried pork gyoza, spicy won tons (might be the best flavored thing we had! So good!), pork soup dumplings (which are my favorites!)ā¦and my wifeās favorite, cucumber salad. Everything was amazing.
Itās nice to have a legitimate Dim Sum spot here in Savannah. We do have some really good Asian and Chinese food options in the city and I bet some would worry that another may get a little washed out, but ETang will be here going punch for punch with the other heavy hitters easily.
And despite it being the Dim Sum spot, their entrees and other dishes are authentic and just as deliciousā¦and plenty of it served! Prices are on par with any other place youāll visit in the area, but the flavors and service you get are worth more.
We will back to see Felix and the other great folks for more great...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter many weekends of not eating out, my family decided that it was time to finally try this restaurant. Unfortunately, we wish we wouldāve continued to eat within our home considering the amount of money spent in comparison to the value of food and service of Etang Dim Sum. First off, the food was very lackluster. Really no taste to the soup dumplings, and honestly with the price lamb- there was absolutely no taste in that dish either. Secondly, the service was AWFUL. Our server (older man with glasses) was not attentive at all. He seemed frustrated from the very start waiting on us to choose what we wanted off the menu. He filled our glasses of water ONCE, pretty much after everyone had finished their glasses and food. When the checks were brought to us he reminded us not only once but twice that they were ready, therefore we felt very rushed to pay instead of enjoy company after finishing a meal. After we paid, he opened the checks right in front of us to check tips and very frustratingly huffed, puffed, and even cussed at our table. We are guessing he felt as if he deserved more??? News flash. He didnāt. We gave him a great percentage. After being upset with what he was BLESSED with (job or not, be thankful buddy) he continued to walk around and stare at our table until we left the restaurant.
Honestly, I mightāve tried the food again. However, I will NEVER return solely based off the service that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFrom the moment we stepped inside, I knew it was the place for me! We were warmly greeting by the staff when we stepped inside the restaurant. The atmosphere was inviting. They have upside down asian umbrellas hanging overhead, weathered brick on some of the walls, other wall was red with asian motifs on walls and other warm scenes on walls. The menu ordering was so easy since they have pictures and written descriptions for all of their dishes. We ordered all dim sum aside from a beef and broccoli dish. We were served our food in five minutes or less. The sum we ordered was done just the way it was supposed to be. We ordered mainly shrimp dim sum, one chicken dumpling one pork dumpling that had soup inside the dumpling and a sweet golden durian roll. Iāve never had a dumpling with soup inside of itā¦that was unique. Everything was terrific. Cost was reasonable. Ordered a little bit more than would do so usually but wanted to try a number of dim sum options. We will return again when we return to Savannah and will look forward to seeing Felix and the rest of the gracious staff. Wish I had more pics but...
