I can't recommend this place for several reasons - service was terrible, food was mediocre, and the waitress added charges to our bill, and billed it in such a way that it added 20% gratuity, didn't say anything about having done so, wouldn't give us a bill to review before paying, so received a tip on top. We met other family members in Savannah over Labor Day weekend. On Saturday night, we searched places to eat and located Orale Tacos. We're all from Texas, so that worked for everyone - 4 adults, a 9 yr old and a 4 yr old.
We walked to the restaurant, hostess said she could seat us in 20 minutes, took our name for a reservation. When we returned, she didn't have us listed, and said she could only offer us a small 4-seat table. We agreed, if she could get 2 more chairs. It took 10-15 minutes before we say a waitress, she brought chips and sauce and took drink orders and another 10-15 minutes to receive drinks (in stages). Frozen margaritas ordered by 2 adults arrived first (and were completely melted 10 minutes later), and the Dos Equis that was supposed to be a bottle was delivered in a can - which would have been okay, but it took 2 requests and snippy remarks from the waitress to get a cup.
We weren't given a children's menu, so my niece ordered a full adult meal to be split between the two; she also asked for an extra plate and an extra order of rice. My husband and I both ordered quesadillas that were to come with sides. During the time we were waiting for food, we both went inside to the restroom - noticing that there were big, long tables there, one empty and another with only 2 people sitting there. My niece took one of the boys to the restroom and overheard someone near the kitchen calling out to our waitress that he needed help - she said she was too busy, even though he told her it was her table.
Other servers began bringing the food - after we'd waited almost an hour - and other tables around us had turned over twice. Only one meal included the sides. When we asked about the beans and rice that were supposed to come with the meals, and the extra rice serving, he said he'd bring them. He finally did, but we had no silverware. After about 10 minutes, our nephew flagged down the hostess and asked for silverware - she brought 1. When I asked her for silverware for everyone, it totally confused her, but she eventually did bring it to us.
By this time, we were all starved, so ate very quickly. When we saw the waitress go by, we asked for the check. She came to the table with an electronic device, but did not provide a bill for us to look at. I asked her for it, but was told she would only give me a receipt. She gave us a total - which seemed incredibly high for what we ordered, and put the amount on the credit card. When she handed me the device, the only choices were for tips - no listing of the bill, not even a total. I chose the Custom amount and entered a 10% tip. She closed the ticket and finally produced a receipt, which couldn't be read in the dark of the restaurant patio.
When we returned to the hotel, we looked at the bill and discovered that she had billed for the sides, counted the children as adults so the bill calculated tip for a party of 6, and ended up with a 35% tip. I tried to call the manager when we returned home and asked for a refund - it took 3 tries/messages before I reached him. He listened to me, said he would call me back, but has not. I've left a follow-up message, but didn't receive a response. Only alternative was to contact the credit card company - who issued credit for only the...
Read moreThe food is five star. The late night menu offers enough choices to make a good meal. If you are rolling into the city as a late night tourist arriving lost and hungry, forget finding a clean relatively safe open still serving option anywhere else. The late night menu is served togo from a walk up bar and there are tables inside and out to sit and eat at. We got there around 1030pm after hoofing it to four other ‘recommended’ spots for a late nite bite that all fell short, already stopped serving and were very dimly lit bar crowd atmospheres. this restaurant orale tacos has little understanding of the valuable service they are providing this town by staying open serving food late in a well staffed well lit clean establishment with seating. The staff unfortunately starts to put chairs away and dimmed the lights a bit around 11pm even though they claim that they are open till 4am. Bad move. They should turn the lights brighter and promote food only service after midnight. It seemed more like they are trying to hide the fact that they are serving so to keep the drunk vagrants from swarming the bar. Thankfully while they do serve, this doesnt come off as the kind of place for pounding them down. Be sure to try the chicken burrito ‘american style’ and the chicken nacho ‘orale’ style (mild creamy white cheese sauce with sliced jalapeños..) the sauce is delicious! Also a great thing about this place is that it doesNOT stink likepiss or cigarettes like some other places. Their staff is nice and friendly and helpful after you start chatting them up after you have already placed your order so long as they are not super busy. If you are looking for a warm howdy and welcome at the door, this isnt that kind of place. They need to realize that their customers can very well be tourists uninformed about their options and at least paste a menu at the front window. March 12,2020 would i eat here...
Read moreWe saw this place earlier during our walk and decided to go there for dinner, after all was taco Tuesday, we came back around 8, no one was at the door so we went inside to be seated, one of the girls inside screamed at us from the bar to go back outside and waited to be seated, we went back outside and realized that the host was seating on one of the table with a friend chatting, she got up annoyed and told us to wait because it was 2 groups before us ( 4 guys and a couple) I told her we were 5 people, never wrote down anything and went back to sit with her friend, we can see 4 tables outside empty and a big one inside( all tables clean) for at least 8 people empty and still she made us wait 20 minutes before sitting us, the group of 4 guys left because of the wait and lack of attention from the host, then she skipped the couples before us to bring us inside, the lady got really mad and told her they were there first, the host never apologized and rolled her eyes at her while she took them to the table, then came back for us, she was a young girl from Panama she told us, once inside our waiter was good, Rhea (Ray of sunshine) we call her, super friendly and willing to made our experience better, we other guacamole and one of the other girls walking there brought it to our tables with no chips, Rhea was helping another table and didn’t see us, we ask 2 other girls that passed by us to please get us tortilla chips for our Guac and they simply ignored us, Rhea came back and apologized for it and got us the chips right away, the food was really good but the service really suck so I don’t think we will go back to eat there, Rhea is the only reason I give them any stars and it sucks that because of their poor customer service they will loose customers because their food is...
