If you are looking for Aspen-tier fine dining, please stop reading here and look elsewhere, because that's not Stew Pot. If you're looking for a homey, well-priced, and filling meal - then I have just the spot - right here at the Stew Pot!
The best way I can describe this place is hole-in-the-wall. It's on the mall, but nothing about it really grabs your attention from the promenade. I assure you, though, give this place a shot after a day on the hill - and thank me later. It's nothing fancy in the slightest sense of the word - very utilitarian by Aspen/Snowmass standards - but it's always the spot for reasonably-priced, warm, satisfying meals.
I've not tried their sandwiches (although I've heard rave reviews) - but most of their stews are the things of legend. The Habanero Pork seems to be a menu mainstay and honestly I wish I could find a copycat recipe because even 500 miles away, I find myself craving it during the off-season.
It's a small place and seating is definitely at a premium - you very well may have to wait around dinner time with a bigger party - but wait you should. Request a table upstairs - despite the lighthouse-esque spiral staircase up, there's more room and you'll be glad you did.
As I said before, it's very markedly not fancy - but it's damned good. While you wait for your main course (which should be stew - just saying...), it's worth perusing their beer list. They get some locals and crafts that are always a treat.
For the price and location, you'll really be hard-pressed to find a better deal and better food. Next time you're in Snowmass, give the Stew Pot a try - you'll be...
Read moreStay away. Waiter had a very nasty attitude. In town for a summer wedding, group went to lunch. I am allergic to onions, told waitress & asked if chicken salad contained any type of onion. She said no, not at all. I ordered a greens salad with chicken salad in top. The waitress shift ended during our meal, and a new waiter took over. My chick salad arrived last, loaded with green onions. I explained to the waiter that I could not eat it due to my allergy and told him I had asked the prior waitress if it contained onion. The waiter told me it was only green onion, not real onion so it didn't matter. He stated the chicken was marinated in seasonings including onion powder and I shouldn't have ordered it, I should have known better. He was very snotty. Since my meal come out last I didn't have time to order anything else,as the group had plans. When the bill canme, I nicely asked the waiter to remove the charge for the chicken salad and he yelled at me, told me I was wrong, it was my fault and I shouldn't order food I didn't want. He created a huge commotion with all the other tables staring at us. The waiter did eventually take the salad off the bill. My brother in law was offended the waiter was so rude and mean, he confronted him and told him to stop yelling at me. The waiter freaked out even more, then demanded we pay right away and leave the restaurant. We were seated outside and gladly...
Read moreThey are the oldest restaurant in Snowmass, which means we had to visit! We came here for lunch and got seated immediately. The restaurant ambience isn't too fancy or quaint but the wonderful smells get your appetite going.
We got the turkey cranberry sandwich with a side of the habenero pork stew and the portobello panini with a side of the old fashioned beef stew. I also ordered a peppermint patty (hot chocolate, peppermint schnapps and whipped cream) and my friend got the snicken pie slice for dessert.
I loved my portobella sandwich - mushrooms, red pepper, avocado, pesto sauce and a very yummy bread bun! It was heavy though and I only had half. My friend didn't like her turkey cranberry as much. The stews on the other hand were delicious. The habenero pork is an absolute must have if you come here. The old fashioned beef stew is just like what a homemade beef stew would be like. The meat was chewy for me though. Still finished it!
The peppermint patty was delicious! It combined my love for hot chocolate and excess peppermint perfectly! The snicker pie was like the Snickers chocolate in a pie. I don't like Snickers, so I didn't like it but my friend did.
Good visit....
