A 4-star review with some caveats - almost, almost a 3-star. Here's why: 1. As soon as we opened the windows, we found one was missing a screen. There was not a spare. 2. When we wanted to go to bed at 8 PM or so, we were unable to find out how to turn off the porch light. We had to call up to find out that we can't turn it off, it only turns off automatically at 10 PM - we just unscrewed the bulb instead. 3. The wifi was weak to the point of being unusable - the guide states that each room is tested to make sure it is connectable but I wonder if that's actually the case. 4. When I wanted to take a shower in the morning, I could only operate it as a bath. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to make it shower. I had to wait for my travel companion to wake up and help me investigate, who after finally finding the answer commented that it was "the most bizarre shower system" they'd seen. I will leave the solution as an exercise for the reader. 5. The limited office hours made checkout difficult. We decided to go see the sunrise at the Maroon Bells on our last morning in Snowmass, but due to the office opening at 8 AM and checkout being at 10 AM, a fairly short window, it limited our ability to do any long hikes while out at the Bells. Despite all of these issues, each of them ended up being only a fairly minor inconvenience for various reasons. So I am keeping it at 4 stars in light of once very nice convenience - the wooden curtain available to draw just in front of the one bed in the room. When drawn fully across it effectively creates a second bedroom for the person on the sofa bed, which was some appreciated privacy and enough to keep my opinion of the place relatively high. Other factors like being very close to some Snowmass shops, restaurants, and shuttles are nice, so just consider if any of these minor issues are dealbreakers for you if you want...
Read moreWhat's not to love about the Laurelwood. We've stayed here several times now over several years and just keep coming back. It's more than reasonably priced (think half of what the hotels down low generally charge) with more room and a much more relaxed atmosphere. The studios are appropriately sized for three adults assuming someone is okay with a couch bed, and the location really can't be beat. The closest units to the road are still not much more than one flight of stairs and 50-100 yards from the ski racks and runs. It doesn't really get any closer to ski-in, ski-out.
Each unit is owner-furnished and some are undoubtedly better-appointed than others, but even the more sparsely appointed units have more than enough for a week's stay or more for 3 people. Full kitchens, pots, pans, utensils, dishwashers, and more. No laundry in unit but the complex has a coin-operated laundromat on site for emergent laundry. Housekeeping/Maid Service took a few years' hiatus for Covid but seemed to be back to usual this year - new towels/toiletries every few days was a very welcome re-addition to out stay.
I'm not sure if it's a special or not, but they also comp taxi rides to/from the airport for up to 5 guests per room - a huge benefit in a place where having a rental car is honestly more of a hindrance than a benefit during ski season. Free taxi up the hill, free buses to anywhere in the Aspen/Snowmass resort complex from right in front of the complex, and a 5-10 minute walk to all of the Snowmass Village/Mall shops and restaurants, at half the price of the bigger "resort hotels" a few streets below. Really - what more could you ask for?
I've only been in the winter - I would love to experience this place in the summer (although not having AC is a bit off-putting). Perhaps this will be the year... if not, though, I'm sure we'll be back...
Read moreGreat place! We stayed in condo 414 in Snowmass Village. As each condo is owned by individuals, please note that this review is only for condo 414. Condo 414 was very, very nice. It had everything a traveller would need, including a full kitchen, balcony, wood burning fireplace, and ski in/ski out location right on the slope. The condo was clean, but with a slight mustiness in the air that was easily aired out by leaving the balcony door open for a bit. The balcony had views up the mountain, so view from room is amazing....probably close to as good as it gets anywhere in Snowmass Village. I did ding the condo one half star because it is in real need of some updates, especially in the bathroom. As a carpenter, I can say that it is not shoddy workmanship, just wear and tear that comes with age & use. Even with updates being needed, this unit is still beautiful and well appointed, and I would not hesitate to stay again. The other half star ding is that there is no elevator here, and stairs & outdoor walkways are in need of repair. Again, nothing bad, just general things that need repair such as soft spots on walkways and rot spots on railings and trim mouldings. No elevator made for some winded trips to the room on the 3rd floor (I'm from Illinois...flatland) in the thinner air carrying baggage and such. Most people would not notice the exterior things but, being a carpenter, I notice a lot of these things wherever I go...not just this location. If you're looking for lodging at a great price in Snowmass Village, give Laurelwood a call! Their customer service is top notch, and the people working the counter are so kind, friendly, and extremely helpful. I can't...
