2 stars because the hotel is beautiful and accessible to the gondola/Snowmass Village. That’s where the positives end. We usually stay elsewhere in Snowmass and should have. The day before arrival, checked in on the app and chose 3:45 p.m. arrival. I also chose YES for housekeeping. It tells you you’ll be getting a mobile key. I got an email from the hotel explaining shuttles and asking if we’re celebrating anything “so we can add a personalized touch for your stay”. I responded that we were there for the music festival and 32 year anniversary. We arrive and attempt to check in at 4:00. Let me also back up and say we are there for JAS Music Festival. Gates open at 4:00 on Friday. Work was taken off, tickets were purchased, hotel was booked (direct, with my rewards number, MONTHS in advance). However, our room isn’t ready with no estimated time. We had planned on dropping our stuff, changing and heading out as soon as we arrived (like every year at every hotel for the last 13 Labor Day weekends). Instead, we’re sitting there suitcases, backpacks, concert blanket, chairs, bag of food and drinks for the room, warm jackets, camera bag, purse. It was all loose around us because we had to pull it all out at valet and there were no luggage carts. No one ever offered one either. We ordered a cocktail and watched others also have issues checking in.
We finally get room 696. If you EVER stay in this hotel, AVOID FLOOR 6!!! What in the holy Severance is floor 6?! If you want a fun scavenger hunt, go find this room WITHOUT asking for help. It’s extra fun when you’re carrying everything I listed above.
We were told by Himanshu to go to 4 to get to floor 6. We go and wander like crazy. Finally see an employee (that sees us struggling and still doesn’t offer a cart!) and we ask how to find our room. She says we have to go to 5 to get to 6. Thank the Lord she offered to walk us to that elevator. We went down 5 or 6 halls, up 2 little sets of stairs (with all the gear). I ask what elderly or handicapped people do. She snickered. I was serious.
We finally get there, almost as far as you can go and it is NOT a short walk. Room was fine. The “VIEW”!? A MINIMUM of 12+ condo decks looking straight into your room. It won’t let me attach video to show you. You want to change? Lay on your bed? Close your blinds!! A guy walking his dog got to see me straight out of bed when I just went to peek out in the morning. You get to have a pitch black room with no daylight, unless you want to watch people’s decks, walking dogs and have them watch you.
(Side note, if you are there for the Labor Day music fest, use the festival shuttles, NOT the hotel one. You will wait a minimum of 30 mins. The festival ones are right there at the mall and NO wait)
Saturday, we left at 8:30 a.m., came back at 2:00 for 20 min to change and left again until 9:30 p.m. We got no housekeeping, even though it was specifically requested. We made sure there was no “do not disturb” sign up.
When we left that morning, we needed our car from valet. No one was there. We waited a few, asked the front desk and were told we needed to use a house phone, which they pointed out. The house phone was broken. We just went back outside and waited until someone showed up.
When we came back briefly at 2:00, neither of our key cards worked. They never activated the mobile key for the app. My husband had to “run down” to the front desk. We timed it for fun. 11 mins round trip from the front desk to this room. No joke. Why have the mobile app and not let us use it in 2025 at this price point hotel?
Also, no anniversary was acknowledged. I didn’t expect it, but YOU guys are the one that asked and said there would be something.
After room, tax, resort, parking and whatever fees, it was $600/night for no on time check in, the most inconvenient room, no view, no housekeeping, broken phones, missing valet, no baggage help, no mobile key...
We will never stay here again. It was THE most expensive and most frustrating experience we’ve ever had for this...
Read moreUnbeatable Location, But the Magic Ends There: My Disappointing Stay at the Viewline Hotel, Snowmass, CO
The Viewline Hotel boasts an enviable location in Snowmass, but unfortunately, that’s where the charm comes to a screeching halt. While the setting is undeniably spectacular, the rest of the experience is marred by cramped accommodations, missing amenities, and a painfully rigid management style.
The Rooms: A Squeeze for Families As someone traveling with two kids, the standard room left us feeling claustrophobic. It’s simply not designed to accommodate more than two people, especially when factoring in ski gear. The lack of space for equipment or hygiene items on the vanity was a constant frustration. For a hotel marketed toward skiers, this was an unfortunate oversight.
Missing Ski-Friendly Amenities One glaring issue was the lack of practical amenities for skiers. There’s no dryer available in the building, an essential feature for any ski destination. After a long day on the slopes, dealing with wet gear in an already cramped space was incredibly inconvenient.
Ski Valet: A Bright Spot The one redeeming feature was the ski valet. The staff was efficient and pleasant, promptly handling our gear and returning it without delay. This was a definite plus and one of the few highlights of the stay.
Management: The Biggest Problem The hotel’s Achilles’ heel is undoubtedly its front desk manager, Herman Sandoval. His micromanagement style stifles the capable staff and creates an unnecessarily frustrating experience for guests. Every decision, no matter how small, must go through Herman. Room upgrade? Check with Herman. Late checkout? Check with Herman. A lower floor? You guessed it—check with Herman. It’s like buying a car where the salesman has to seek approval from the manager for every step.
I was particularly appalled when, as an Ambassador-level Marriott guest with over 100 stays annually, I was denied an upgrade due to “lack of availability.” Moments later, they offered me the very same upgrade—for a fee. The hypocrisy was infuriating, and resolving the issue required 30 minutes of back-and-forth while the front desk staff repeatedly sought Herman’s approval.
Late Checkout Drama As an American Express customer, I’m accustomed to a 4:00 p.m. checkout. However, Herman and his team flatly refused, badgering us to vacate the room starting at noon. They even resorted to calls and room visits to pressure us. To make matters worse, the hotel was only at 78% capacity, and our room remained unoccupied well into the evening (which I confirmed). It felt like Herman took pleasure in making things as difficult as possible.
Chronic Front Desk Issues The bottleneck created by Herman’s micromanagement meant that the front desk was perpetually understaffed and overwhelmed. Not once during my stay was I able to approach the desk without encountering a long line of frustrated guests.
Small Missteps Add Up Every day, the hotel offers hot chocolate and cookies from 3:00 to 5:00, but they consistently ran out of cookies by 4:30. For a hotel of this caliber, this seems like an easily fixable oversight.
Conclusion While the Viewline Hotel’s location is unbeatable, its shortcomings in service, amenities, and management are too glaring to overlook. A stay here feels less like a relaxing vacation and more like a constant negotiation. Unless management overhauls its approach, I’d recommend looking elsewhere for your...

We arrived early for our check-in around noon and were informed our room wasn't yet ready (which is fine, we were early for the 4pm check-in time), but when we came back to the hotel at 4:45pm, we were told our room still wasn't ready. I wish this had been communicated to us as we could have stayed in Aspen instead of driving all the way back to the hotel for a room that wasn't ready. We booked this hotel for our honeymoon, and we were tired and ready to just settle into our room before dinner. The manager noticed we were perturbed about the late check-in and asked if we were hungry. We eagerly replied, "yes!", and then were not provided any food, which we thought was super weird. Why offer food if you were not going to provide us with any? Instead, we were provided with a Coors Light and a glass of wine, which hardly makes up for the inconvenience on our honeymoon, especially when you consider how expensive this hotel is.
So, that was just the check-in experience. After we finally got into our room, it was a bit disappointing. It was clean (which is good), but the actual design of the room left a lot to be desired. I had upgraded to a premium King room with a mountain view, and it seemed like the designer of this hotel literally just added empty space to each room (with zero furnishings, rugs, art) and decided that was good enough for an upcharge. The room was cavernous and echo-y, definitely not inviting, cozy, or romantic as I was hoping. The mountain view was nice.
After staying in our room for a while, we realized one of the thermostats appeared to be broken as it was quickly heating up to 75 degrees in the bedroom. I also noticed that we were not given a "do not disturb" sign for our room like I saw hanging from other people's hotel room doors. So, I went down to the desk and asked for an engineer and a "do not disturb" sign before we left for lunch. I was told housekeeping would bring us a sign when they came by. Upon returning, luckily it seemed that the thermostat had been fixed, but for the rest of our 3 day/2 night stay, we never had our room cleaned, and never got the "do not disturb" sign.
Also, one of the hot tubs was out of order, and the pool area didn't really look as nice as the pictures at all.
On top of all this, this hotel charges an undisclosed "resort fee" upon check-out, which is just so shady and dishonest to me. Not sure why it couldn't have been disclosed in the bill prior - seems like a dishonest cash grab when we weren't even provided basic housekeeping services.
All of this to say, this was definitely a sub-par experience for our honeymoon. It felt like we weren't even remotely a priority to anyone at this hotel, and to me, the price is way too high to justify such mediocre service and accommodations.
The only thing remotely redeeming about this hotel is the location. Very close to shops/restaurants. But I think you could probably say that about any hotel in this area....
