We were very hopeful that we would have a great time at Cali Love's karaoke night on Friday, Jan 25. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and Cali Love was recommended by the owner of their neighbor tasting room, Lucas & Lewellen. We headed there after dinner to sing some karaoke and drink some champagne. We ordered a bottle of champagne and were offered chambongs - so we were excited for a lively and fun night after a day full of somber wine tastings.
About 15 minutes after getting there, a friend in our group got into a confrontation with the man handling the karaoke/music after he touched her drink (which we understand now was just to move it out of the way, but nevertheless, a group of girls is wary of men touching drinks).
A bartender named Rochelle, who told us that night she was the owner of Cali Love named Amanda Marsh, asked for my credit card to hold behind the bar for our open tab. Once I was done singing karaoke, Rochelle brought me a receipt to sign and said my friends and I were no longer welcome in her bar and needed to leave (due to the confrontation with her friend). I went to sign the receipt and realized she had overcharged my card for the Cali Love branded hat we had worn while singing (everyone was doing this, not just us).
She refused to reimburse my card for the hat. I did not take the hat and I've since disputed the charge with my bank. The icing on the cake was when she called us "drunk dumb tourists" and shut the door in our faces.
I attempted to contact the venue by e-mail and on social media and was quickly blocked. Am now letting my bank sort out the payment dispute.
We thought this would have been a fun time, but realized quickly the staff are not interested in tourists frequenting their tasting room. It was the only dark mark on our otherwise very fun...
Read moreThis place is a vibe!! It's one of the ONLY places that stays open after 6pm, and they have karaoke and some great photo ops. There's a huge, hypnotic video screen on the wall that I caught myself staring at longer than I'd like to admit! I usually drink sparkling wine when I go out, so this place is perfect for me.
There's no restroom here, which is rough since the town locks up its restrooms pretty early too, but I get it - people can be nasty and I wouldn't want to clean that up either lol HOWEVER, the Sausage Garden across the street stays open pretty late, and they've got one! I was a little nervous about going and using their bathroom without buying anything, and the sweetest guy ever (bartender Nick) offered to walk over with me in case anyone asked! And they say chivalry is dead lol The owner was happy to handle the place while he made sure I was comfortable and safe, I am telling you: this place will make you feel like family and I am here for it! They look out for you, and they encourage you to be brave and get up and sing, they help you pick a drink by listening to what you're looking for, they're just really good people here! They deserve all the visits!! So glad I decided to stop in! And thank you to Nick for being the kind of guy you see depicted in those old TV shows, and like George McFly from Back to the Future - you're a unicorn and you give me hope just...
Read moreIf I could give this review 10 stars I would. I was out with a fair number of my coworkers for a work outing down in Solvang this past week. After eating dinner at the Copenhagen Sausage Garden across the street which was great in its own right (Food and Service), our group came over to be greeted by an awesome gentleman by the name of Jacob who was running Cali Love Wine on 8/2.
The night was so much fun, we all sang our hearts out over Karaoke until we shut the place down. Needless to say I recommend Cali Love to anyone visiting Solvang, especially if you like bubbles, chambongs (champagne flute turned bubbly shooter look it up), karaoke and an all around good time. Also, they have props that you can put on like hats and even guitars on stage. I am still reminiscing about my visit as it was definitely a highlight from the trip and everyone in my group agrees it was a night to remember! Go to Cali Love Wine, you will...
