Must try! If you love ribeye steak like I do, Coast Range is a must try, but be prepared to get hooked. Last night, we went the steakhouse for the first time (it just opened on September 24th) and it was everything you could want and more. I had the Altair Grass-fed Ribeye (medium rare of course) and it was the best steak I have ever had at a restaurant (except for A5 of course, because there is nothing better than that). It was perfectly seared over an Oak fire, seasoned to perfection and served with my choice of eight sauces. I opted for the CR Steak Sauce and used very sparingly, it added a slightly acidic, very slightly sweet touch to an absolutely perfect steak. Don't let the grass-fed tag scare you. Since this was Australian Wagyu, which falls between A5 Wagyu and a USDA Prime steak in marbling, it was absolutely tender and delicious. If you prefer a NY steak or a filet, they have a wide variety of both from high tier domestic cuts to Australian Wagyu and Japanese A5 Wagyu. I only wish they described each in detail on the menu, so you may need to do some research before hand (like I did) or ask a lot of questions. The menu is said to change every few days depending on what cuts of quality beef they are able to source.
We started with a cocktail and a Seafood Plateau (a flat version of a seafood tower served on a large stainless steel platter) for two. On a huge bed of ice, the platter had four prawns, two crab claws and six oysters on the half shell. All were fresh and delicious and served with lemon, cocktail sauce and a white horseradish based sauce that was not overly spicy. My wife had the Wagyu Beef "Stroganoff", a handmade tagliatelle with short rib like wagyu pieces that were tender and complimented the pasta and sauce. The restaurant also offers a fairly large selection of seafood and meat dishes for non-steak lovers, but the steaks are definitely the stars.
The service was top notch (Lisa was our server) and attentive without being overbearing. The decor was surprisingly 70's steakhouse with a more modern twist. Brightly lit in the front and more subtly lit in the dining area with lots of dark wood and brown leather booth seating. We don't go out to eat for the ambiance, so it worked for us. To me personally, it is all about the food. I told one of the owners how awesome my steak was and he graciously offered me a chance to see the oak grill out back where the steaks are cooked. I took a quick look and told the grillmaster how great my steak was. He was very pleased.
Overall, this is probably the best dining experience you can have in the SYV and we plan to return with all of our friends and guests and it will definitely be our go-to restaurant for the foreseeable future. If you love steak, you must go and give...
Read moreDear Management, I hope you read this message . I am writing to share my recent experience at Coast Range, hoping that my feedback can contribute to improving your service. My wife and I are frequent visitors to Solvang as we have grown fond of spending our Sundays exploring new culinary spots since our previous favorite restaurant unfortunately experienced a fire incident in January.
On Sunday, April 13, we decided to try Coast Range for the first time, drawn by its beautiful location and the overall appeal of its setting. Our anticipation was high given the wonderful city of Solvang, known for its genuinely welcoming atmosphere.
Upon arrival, we encountered a few issues that I believe the management could address. First, we had a rather indifferent reception. After waiting about five minutes at the desk, a receptionist finally came to assist us but did not communicate much, leaving us without a warm welcome or information about our seating. We were led to a patio table in the sun without the benefit of an umbrella, which was a bit uncomfortable.
When ordering, the service did not meet the expectations we had from previous dining experiences in the area. The server's response to my request for an IPA taster was delayed and dismissive. Additionally, when placing our food order, there was no inquiry about how I wanted my cheeseburger cooked or whether there were sides available. Generally, with a burger priced over $25, some fries or other sides are typically included. Once our meals arrived, the fish and chips were satisfactory but not outstanding. The cheeseburger, however, was barely cooked, leading to disappointment with my meal. The server's response to my request for it to be cooked well done was simply that "this is the only way we do our burgers," which felt dismissive of customer preference. Moreover, requests for extra lemon and napkins went unfulfilled, and the absence of any follow-up from the main server left us feeling unattended. Even the arrival of the beer taster came late, after we had already finished our meal, diminishing the overall enjoyment. At the end of our dining experience, the handling of the check was as uncommunicative as the rest of the meal, delivered without any engagement or dialogue. Despite these setbacks, I want to emphasize that we would like to return. We have consistently enjoyed the charm of Solvang and believe that good food and service can make Coast Range a preferred destination. I hope that this feedback helps in addressing these service gaps to enhance the experience for all patrons. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I am confident in your ability to make the necessary improvements and hope to enjoy a more pleasant visit next time. Best...
Read moreMy recent visit to Coast Range was nothing short of remarkable. The culinary experience began with my wife's Eggs Benedict, which were a masterpiece in themselves. The portions were generous, and every element, from the velvety sauce to the perfectly cooked eggs, was spot on. The fresh orange juice and superb coffee, complemented with fresh cream and sugar, added to the delightful start.
I opted for the biscuits and gravy, a dish that impressed with its puffed pastry, offering a wonderful texture that remained consistent throughout the meal - a rare feat for such dishes. The biscuit's ability to retain its perfect form without becoming soggy was particularly noteworthy.
The ambiance of Coast Range added to the dining experience, especially the charming patio area, home to the chef's friendly and laid-back hound dog. This pet-friendly setting is a significant draw for dog owners.
A unique aspect of this place is its proximity to Draughtmans, where one can enjoy exceptional local beers if seating is unavailable at Coast Range. The ability to order Coast Range's food as a to-go option at the brewery is a convenient and enjoyable feature.
I also tried their burger on another day, which was a culinary delight. It was a fusion of flavors with jam, fresh patty, cheese, and spinach - reminiscent of the Fathers Office burger but even better. The quality of food here is akin to Michelin star standards, a rarity for a brewery setup.
The wine pairings, curated by master sommelier Rajat Parr, were impeccable, enhancing the dining experience. The selection of wines from Vaquero bar was impressive and complemented the meals wonderfully.
Coast Range is truly a hidden gem, offering a culinary experience that could easily outshine the more traditional dining spots in Solvang. It's a place I hope remains undiscovered by tourists for a bit longer, maintaining its unique charm and...
