Read moreI was really excited to eat at a place on the historic Route 66, but the whole experience fell a bit short of expectations. Rulu’s 66 Bar and Grill has a lot of potential, with its welcoming atmosphere and cozy, laid-back vibe, but there were a few areas where it didn’t quite deliver.
The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. However, I couldn’t help but notice that there were only two people running the show—they were servers, hosts, and bartenders all at once. While they managed to keep up, it did seem like they had too much on their plates, which affected the overall flow.
As for the food, it was a mix of highs and lows. The ribs were the special of the day, but they didn’t impress me. While they were tender, the flavor was underwhelming. On the other hand, the homemade coleslaw was a standout. Its unique recipe set it apart from the usual coleslaw you find at most places.
The club sandwich was the star of the meal for me. It was fresh, perfectly stacked, and came with crispy, well-seasoned fries. The Caesar salad was another highlight, though it leaned a bit too acidic for my taste. The potato skins were a crowd-pleaser, loaded with cheese, bacon, and green onions, and served with a tangy dip that paired perfectly.
The setting itself added to the experience. It’s always exciting to dine on Route 66, and the casual atmosphere with TVs showing sports made it a fun spot for the whole family. However, the overall experience felt like it could have been better with more attention to detail and a less stretched-thin staff.
While not everything was perfect, Rulu’s has its charm. The homemade touches in the food and the friendly service make it worth a visit if you’re in the area. I’d come back for the sandwich and salad, but I’d love to see the place with a bit more support for the...
Read moreOrdered for pickup. Potato skins, bacon Mac 'n' cheese, bacon cheeseburger. Food was done in about 20 minutes, so nice and fast. Wasn't very busy when I went in, I assume because it was a bit of a rainy night. Lady at the counter was kind. Was really excited for my burger, nice big juicy patty, toasted bun and a bunch of veggies on the side. Huge disappointment, there was no flavor to the patty beyond this burnt oil flavor which overpowered any other flavors that might have been good about it. Fries had most likely been fried in the same oil they used for frying seafood because they tasted like shrimp. Mac and cheese was... Fine? Potato skins were actually good I gotta give it up. My sweet wife donated the rest of her Mac n cheese to me because I couldn't finish my burger even though I was famished. Also... The mayo was put right in the box with the burger so it was hot by the time I opened up my food, which is just such a rookie mistake. And the little mustard packets I think were, somehow old? It came out dark with the texture of playdough. It could have just been the style, and I've never seen mustard like that before, or... This restaurant really needs to check the freshness of the ingredients they use....
