First of all, we're not big on sweet milkshakes and ice cream, but I gave 5 stars because their mason jar milkshakes were very pretty. They were appealing to the eyes. If you have a child, it's insane. You'll be the coolest if you let them try it.
As a family, we do our best to eat healthy at home. Lots of homecooked meals, lunchboxes packed with love, and even healthy snacks on road trips. We have made clean, wholesome eating part of our lifestyleโฆ but hey, we are human! And when we travel, we are not afraid to treat ourselves, especially when something exciting catches our eye.
Before our Spring Break trip to Gatlinburg, we gave the girls a fun task, which was to find one thing they really wanted to try when we got there. Their pick? The Crazy Mason Milkshakes and Ice Cream Bar. We looked up reviews and checked the photos, which BTW looked wild and fun, so we decided to go. Why not?
Quick tip if you are headed to Gatlinburg: The Crazy Mason opens from 2 PM to 9 PM, so plan to do something else in the morning before heading to that part of town. Trust us, it is worth the wait.
Now, here is a little breakdown to help if you are planning your own visit:
PARKING Gatlinburgโs downtown is tight and touristy. Most parking spots charge $20โ$25/day. We got lucky because our resort had a downtown facility, so we parked for free (a huge blessing!). If you donโt have that perk, itโs worth budgeting for parking ahead of time.
ENJOY THE TOWN FIRST The downtown area is small but lively! Coming from Chicago, we found the townโs vibe so different and fun. There were cowboy boots and hat shops, martial arts gear, handmade goods, and quirky souvenir stores everywhere. The walk alone was already part of the adventure!
DONโT FORGET SUNBLOCK! It was spring, not summer, and still, we got sunburns! We did not realize it until we got back and saw the tan lines. The weather felt nice and breezy, but the sun was definitely doing its thing. So yes, sunblock is a must even if you think you donโt need it.
THE CRAZY MASON REVIEW Okay, finally, what you have been waiting for: the milkshakes. They are HUGE, fun, creative, and definitely a sugar-loverโs dream. Even if you are not a sweet person, your kids will think you are the coolest parent ever for bringing them there.
Our honest take? It was good, but a lot. For example, one jar can easily be shared by two or three people. We each ordered one and probably finished a quarter of it, tops. We are just not used to that much sugar, and letโs just sayโฆ "Our bodies knew it." Sugar overload is real.
Still, it was worth the experience! The milkshake jars come with fun designs and can be kept as souvenirs. The girls had a blast, and even if we needed some detox soup and a nap afterward, it gave us a fun memory we will always laugh about.
So would we recommend it? Yes! Just go in knowing it is a sugar bomb, pace yourselves, and share! It is not our usual lifestyle (as youโll see if you scroll through our page), but sometimes, letting go and making fun memories with your kids is exactly what the moment calls for.
Would you try The Crazy Mason, too? Or have you been? Tell us your favorite flavor. We might need a do-over (with just one jar next time). Follow @mixedknot (IG and FB) for more.

ย ย ย Read more(I am sure this is an isolated incident) but My family was in town from North Carolina this past Saturday celebrating my Birthday weekend. My 3 and 5 y/o wanted milkshakes so this establishment was recommended to us by some of the local business and a simple google search. We went around 7:20 pm evidently it was busy and seating was limited which is expected for a Saturday evening. My wife stood in line to order, while I found a table and sat with the kids. The original plan was to get the full experience and eat there then continue exploring the downtown area. Unfortunately we were approached by an elderly man who commented to us about how adorable our kids were. Normally we get a lot of compliments but this conversation kept getting weirder and weirder. He said he was a retired kindergarten teacher and love all his kids and hinted toward probably it being more than appropriate. My wife and I tried to ignore him and he walked away, but kept hovering around my son. He went outside briefly and then came back in this time re engaging with us but this time he asked my 5 year old son if he liked to be tickled, attempting to put his hands on my son. My wife put her arm around my son pulling him away from this man while I engaged with this man โtelling him to leave us alone.โ that was being very inappropriate toward a 5 year old. He got upset and again left the restaurant briefly trying to reenter the restaurant with me sitting there he was not going to come back into the restaurant. Our number was called shortly after and I mentioned it to the manager at this point the man came back into the store but the only solution that was offered was to โCall the Authorities.โ The manager didnโt seem to understand the totality of what transpired in the moment. Once we got our milkshakes we ended up leaving because this guy was still hovering around and felt that it would be in our both our kids best interest to go back to the hotel. The milkshakes were good but I wish our experience was different. They do offer a military discount as well. My biggest recommendation is watch your kids and maintain your situational awareness. Especially when this...
ย ย ย Read moreVery good and fun milk shakes. These are pretty big and would be fine for sharing. The 6 of us got 5 and still couldn't finish all of them. We got there at 1 just to find out they don't open until 2. There were already a few people waiting. We decided to go do something else and got back there at 1:59. The line was long! It only took about 15-20 to get to order but then it took 45 minutes to get the shakes after ordering. It took 20mins for the people who ordered first to get their milkshakes! There was not enough seating for as many people who needed seats, it did seem to work out that by the time your milkshake was done there was a table opening up. We were order number 17 And got a seat pretty early on. There were people that had to stand 30ish or more minutes though. as we left it did seem like it was a little less busy. Four of us really enjoyed our ice cream. The dairy free one, said the ice cream tasted very watered down, so that was a little disappointing. She still ate most of it but to her it wasn't worth the waiting time. If you have allergies make sure to tell them! We have a peanut allergy in the bunch, they kept his separate until we came up to the counter to get it. I'm glad too because mine ended up with a Reese's pieces in it and it shouldn't have! I believe the people right before us had ordered that one. So most likely fell into mine as they were moving them to the counter. This would have been a completely different review if they didn't take the extra precaution they did with the peanut free milkshake. No regrets but not something I would do if all the seats are taken and there's a line out the door. The souvenir jar is...
