11/22/19 So sorry to give a low rating. This is for the overall liking of the product. I just received my order yesterday for taffy. $19 + $10 shipping in the trash. Wouldn't give it away. Too nasty. I chose 10 flavors. On the first try, the density was too soluble and I could barely taste the flavor of the licorice. The flavor lasted a few seconds like cheap gum, and the flavors didn't taste good. So I put them in the fridge for a while, thinking it was because they had been traveling in the mail for 3 days. Once they hardened in an hour or less, I tried the peppermint. It was hardened and able to start dissolving while eating it. But the density was still way too soluble once it started to soften while chewing; and I could barely taste the flavor. It just wasn't the type of chewing consistency like the way taffy should be. The best way to describe the solubility is like that of a recipe in its prep stages that still needs to thicken a bit or is missing that one ingredient to complete the thickening process. The chewyness of taffy just wasn't there. I could tell that it was made fresh though. I tried 3 more flavors. Same result. Then I tried the peanut butter and the molasses. It was hard to tell which flavor was which, but the flavoring was at least stronger than the others and the density was thicker. Only one of these two flavors had a slightly thicker density though. They both taste like a Mary Jane and Bit o Honey. So at least that was a plus. I tried strawberry and lemon this morning. The lemon taste like it had been in contact with soap, along with the same result of the other flavors, the strawberry as well. I am not mad at all, just disappointed. The stronger flavors should have a kick. But not one of the flavors could barely be tasted, except for molasses and peanut butter. I purchased the taffy because Shriver's was listed as one of the top taffy makers. After I ordered the candy, I checked the reviews to see which flavors were everyone's favorites. Although everyone gave great reviews, no one specifically said what was good about the candy, except that it is fresh. I went through so many reviews trying to see what flavors everyone likes. Not a single review that mentioned a specific flavor or why one flavor was better than the other. That was concerning. So hopefully my review will give everyone a true idea of what the product is like before buying. Buddy Squirrel taffy is the best, but they don't sell it online anymore and I don't live close to any Buddy Squirrel to see if the taffy is still sold in stores. (No refund or...
Read moreI would like to extend a special thank you to Shrivers. I lived in South-Jersey for most of my youth, spending summers visiting various shore points. I particularly loved visiting Ocean City where we spent time on the boardwalk shopping at our favorite confectionery, Shivers. We love their saltwater taffy and fudge. Now, I have lived in FL for the past 20 years and whenever we visit Ocean City I always make a point of visiting Shivers. My wife is a saltwater taffy fanatic, so I decided to order two lbs. of taffy online via their website to be delivered to Florida. I became concerned when after 10 days our taffy had not arrived. I tried contacting the USPS without any luck. I then contacted Shrivers directly where I spoke with a staff member named Nancy. She verified that the Post Office was experiencing delivery problems. Nancy took the time to help track down our package and provided me with regular updates. Unable to figure out if the Post Office was going to be able to deliver the taffy, Nancy contacted me saying she was sending another two pounds of taffy via UPS. She remained in contact until we received our taffy. And as fate would have it, I am happy to report that both packages arrived on the same day. We are now happily enjoying our taffy. Thanks again to Shrivers, and especially Nancy for working hard to maintain a high level of customer...
Read moreI am a sugar addict, through and through. Due to the quarantine, my sweets supply was dwindling fast, and I was starting to panic. I ordered a few candies through amazon, but none of them would be delivered in time before I ate the last confection in my secret stash. I don't know how it popped into my head, but I thought I would look into getting some authentic boardwalk fudge and salt water taffy, but was ready to accept the fact that it either a) coudn't be shipped because it would melt b) the shop would be closed due to the pandemic c) it also wouldn't get here in time before my inevitable sugar withdrawal. Thankfully, all of this turned out to be false, as not only TWO days after I ordered, my pound of fudge and box of assorted salt water taffies were at my doorstep (mind you, I'm one state over). Not only this, but they were all SUPER fresh! I would not have blamed anyone had they been a bit stale and/or melted, but it was as if I had bought a fresh batch right in the store. Thank you for saving me from spiraling into insanity over here in PA! You have one...
