Let me say this-It is truly my belief that the Savannah Taphouse is NOT friendly towards minorities. I came here because I'm in town for a conference tonight through Friday, and this place was chosen from a coworker's recommendation.
When I got there, the sign said to wait to be seated. I waited to be seated for 15 minutes with another person behind me, but the waitress knew that person and asked where he wanted to be seated. THEN she came back to me and told me to sit anywhere I wanted. Why couldn't she have come over and told me because I KNOW that she saw me standing there.
When seated, I sat there for 20 minutes before ANY server came. The only reason why the server came over was because I motioned for somebody to come over. I ordered my drink...and the waiter went down to the opposite end of the bar and ran her mouth for 15 minutes BEFORE deciding to make the drink.
I ordered my food. Took 20 minutes for it to come. Burger was hot, fries lukewarm.
Didn't have any silverware, and waitress didn't bring me any.
Waiter didn't come over to the table at all to check on me to see if I needed anything. Had to keep motioning to try and get the waiter's attention to get water and order another drink.
However, I noticed that White customers were constantly being checked on with their food and drink, along with bring asked if they needed anything. My waiter i felt either didn't want to be bothered, or could just care less.
When the waiter finally realized (I guess) that I might in fact need something, I was frustrated and just wanted to go. I asked for my check...
And when paying, the machine had the nerve to see if I wanted to leave a tip.
Are you kidding me?
I try to give people (especially young people) a chance to get things together...especially if they work in food service. But this...this where mostly heavy metal was being played and white customers were given attention to their needs while I sat there trying to get something to eat and drink...the vibe was definitely "We'll tolerate you, but really don't want you here." That funky attitude was with ALL of the the waiters, the bartender, poor attentiveness, and the icing on the cake with expectation for a tip after this MESS.
Listen carefully: I am an African American male that was in town for a conference and wanted good food, good drinks, a place to watch election results and good service overall. This wasn't it. If you are a minority, I would definitely recommend going somewhere else in Savannah that is friendly towards minorities while appreciating the money spent in their establishment. I will NEVER EVER visit this...
Read moreWe wanted to try something new. This popped up for us. Mostly bad experience. Some redeeming qualities.
The asparagus was cooked to death, sour (I didn't even know it could taste sour) and not properly presented. The ends were not chopped. Butter was not brushed on, just lumps of butter thrown on the center. Butter was cold.
The hamburger had a great char on it but there was barely any seasoning. The Texas burger had egg on it which promptly ran all over the plate and made one hell of a mess, but it was nice to have for choking down the dry burger. This one was over cooked.
The broccoli had zero seasoning but I can't complain about that too much, I like bland broccoli. Most people do not.
The second burger was the patty melt. It looked like one of the sorriest hamburgers I ever saw. You remember in grade school when they made grilled cheese on those cheap bread slices and how the cheese was stuck to the bread and you had to gum it to death? Yeah, that. It was never put on the burger to melt onto it.
The Chicken plate was okay. The sauce really really saves that chicken.
The Mac and cheese egg rolls were the best thing we ate. I can't stress enough how magical of an experience that was. I'm shocked the rest of the food was such a disaster compared to that.
Service was okay and it needs improvement. We went 15-20 minutes of not being checked on and multiple attempts were made to get her attention. We even asked another waitress to fetch ours.
When she finally came, she spent and I kid you not, over 10 minutes talking to the table next to us. When she finished, she walked away so fast. I had to holler to get her attention several times because my normal voice did not catch her attention and we were NOT staying there any longer.
Finally, we get told the manager didn't appreciate my hollering. My message to...
Read moreI have debated writing this review. But I'm going to touch on the key points. First of all, the food looked great, although we didn't get to eat any of it. Everything started out okay. Our waitress was sweet, and took our order. We then waited an hour before even seeing our server again, before she even asked us if we had gotten our food yet. It was 7:30, an hour and a half after ordering, our parking meter was up in 15 minutes and we had to leave. Still no food. So we decided to tell our waitress to forget about it, which is when she told us that the food was made, it was just sitting in the lineup too long, so they threw it out. She owned up to the fact that it was her fault, she had went outside, and left the food to her coworkers, which was appreciated, but then proceeded to cry because she was having a bad day. And I get it, I've had bad days at work too, so I tried to remain compassionate and empathetic, but after leaving I felt like I had been manipulated into not asking for her manager. We had a trolley ghost tour at 9 and didn't have time to grab anything to eat beforehand. The rest of our night spiraled because we had not eaten. By the time we got off the tour, it was midnight and most places were closed or so busy we couldn't get in to eat. Maybe if we had found something to eat I wouldn't have felt the need to write this, however, this occurrence completely changed the feeling of our trip from happy and leisure, to stressful and anxiety producing. I really do hope this instance was enough of a lesson for our waitress, but at the same time, it could have been handled better and my wife should not have been the person to hold her hand and tell her it was okay after not getting any food or service for...
