It was initially before booking where I was won over by the advertising and marketing of the picturesque pyramid view. But how wrong was I….
Where do I begin… Upon entering the small street, you are greeted with the smell of horse and camel excrement. A strong mustic smell that immediately awakens you to your regret of booking such a place. Then… as you enter the building itself you are greeted by rude staff, which you will hear more about as we go on through this review. The rooms: The rooms are without working plugs, the television was broken, one of the two rooms didn’t have a control for the air con so it was either on or off without being able to have a choice on temperature. The smell in both bathrooms which we had were absolutely disgusting, it was as if someone had excreted in the showers. We would leave in the morning at 10 and return at 10 in the evening and the smell wouldn’t get any weaker. Furthermore: The bin latches would not open for which I have taken a video for but can’t attach as images. The shower brackets were insecure and would need readjusting mid shower. Holes in the floor (see image attached) Live wires outside the hotel (see image attached)
Another important factor to note is that bedding is only changed upon request and water bottles are only provided on the first day of stay. There was two members of staff who I would like to highlight. Mohammed who I believe is the manager (in the cartooned image obtained from WhatsApp) was very cunning and deceiving. We had requested with him for a pyramid view room throughout the process from booking until the date of arrival and was informed that these were fully booked. It was only until we were given two rooms that my eldest brother had overheard arriving guests request a pyramid view room on arrival to be immediately provided one by him. The gentleman pictured in the pink T-shirt was exceptionally rude and direct. It was a ‘take it or leave it attitude from him which I picked up’. He would eat meals ordered in the lobby without consideration for guests awaiting transport. . Because of the impression these two staff members gave me, I did not want them to go into my room at all so throughout my stay I opted into not changing my bedding.
I would suggest you use Uber and purchase tickets directly for the sites you are going to visit at the gates as this accommodation was quoting 30-40% for transport. Just as a reference point for travellers these sites are fixed price by the Egyptian government therefore you won’t be ripped off for them.
If you are going to cairo I would suggest staying away from this accommodation (I struggle to understand how it can be classified...
Read moreI came to egypt with many expectations, one of the many expectations was a good hotel close to the piramids, and we got a “hotel” marvel stone. However upon first impressions the hotel has a horse barn in the lobby and smells really bad, the hotel is dirty, in america the Marvel stone is what you call a roach motel. The staff was friendly and cooperative. However the hotels have safety issues in the bath like no doors in the shower so all the water splash the floor making easy for you to fall, the water heater is inside the bathroom and its 220 volt and it’s improperly installed if you take a proper shower you can splash the water heater cables, the view is good but they do not change the towels, they dont clean the floors only use a broom to sweep. So the staff help us to get us a tour locally and the toor guide and drivers where very good and professional and then we took another tour to luxor with the marvel hotel staff and book us in a local train 2 cond class and it was a very difficult trip for 14 hours and even the local egytian people at the train were concerned about our safety they said the hotel rob us. The trip in luxor was ok. But once we go back to cairo the hotel leave us stranded at the station and did not send a shuttle to pick us up, we called many times and thye ghosted our calls, the police came ans concerned and eventually even took our phones away and asked For money to let us go(basically kidnapped by police) and was the worsts experience of our lives, we called marbel hotel staff to the cellphone and didn’t pick up… we end up being escorted to another hotel that took good cared of us marriot hotel. Please pay attention. Do not visit marvel stone hotel, its not clean and they dont care about you ans once they take your money they will leave you stranded. I am trying to talk to a lawyer to see what...
Read more... all i could utter was "wow" when i got to the rooftop. we braved staying in this hotel despite some concerning reviews about the local area and immediate vicinity of the hotel. staff are fantastic, the room is big and although we booked a pyramid view room, we were on the 3rd floor (312) which isn't high enough to avoid satellite dishes blocking the view. best if you are lucky to get a room on the 4th floor. don't feel let down as the best place really where you want to spend most of your time if you are not out on a tour or asleep is the rooftop/viewing deck. the view is jaw-dropping. sunrise and sunset - this is where you want to be. breakfast is simple - served on a plate with 1 hot drink or juice. they sell hot and cold drinks and are reasonably cheap, sadly no alcoholic drinks but you can buy your own. you can also smoke sisha if you wish. if you need something to eat, they have a takeaway menu - they will order and deliver it to you. outside of the hotel is nothing fancy, just one of those typical side streets. 2 mins walk and there is ATM, KFC, Pizza Hut, allegedly authentic Egyptian restaurant and of course entrance to the Sphinx and Giza Pyramids. expect to be hassled by vendors which is part of local atmosphere, don't entertain, politely say "no thank you" and you'll be ok. the whole hotel has signs of wear and tear as expected but kept clean. we had no issues with it. wifi is temperamental but not ideal for downloading huge files. browsing and checking emails should be ok. leave your keys at reception if you want your room tidied up. if you don't, they won't enter your room without your permission. i will stay here next time, no...
