Will be updating upon leaving this location. I made reservations weeks ago for my Valentines day stay with my love. I requested early check in and out, but saw through confirmation that it had not applied regardless of a confirmation email for the upgrades. I just called and was looped around several times before I dialed opt. 4 for parties. The lady was nice and helped, but then also said that the upgrades may not be able to be applied. It's still over 24hrs before check in, and when I asked if this was the norm for your front desk, for your customers to be looped around several times since there's no one answering the phone, and this sweet lady had quite some giggles. Uhm.. I would sincerely appreciate a little bit better service for starters. I will be updating this review based on the overall stay. Not a good start. 1st update: Called for early check in. Lady answered the phone and said the earliest she could give me was 2pm for early check in. 3 hours past initial check out times? Last update: Check in was super easy. New to using the app. I recieved text from someone named Jordan, where I was asked how the experience was so far, and let him know what we experienced. Jordan omitted the shotty front desk service in his response, but it cool. He claimed that I could also have left bags with the hotel while living life and having some V-Day pampering, but to be honest I do not not feel at all comfortable leaving my belongings in a place that isn't my space. I don't think that's unreasonable. When there's rooms available on the website for my type of room, day-of it kindof just makes me think there's no real reason you couldn't have of fulfilled early check in that I requested weeks ago. We had appointments that had been scheduled in between checking in and going out to our celebratory dinner, and so this is why it was requested. 2 pm earliest check in does not help with a 1pm appointment underway... I try to be prepared and that's the point. I will say that I did get lost upon leaving the hotel for dinner, but that's just because I didn't realize main lobby was on 2nd floor. Kindof stressful, but made it through. There were 2 burn marks on our black end table next to the bed. The end table was also not clean, as well as top to the tank of toilet, and there was a short black hair on bed next to pillow on left side. I also realized that the type-c charger port on the left side of the bed with the white lamp did not work. There was a point at around 4am where my key wasn't working for the door, but I was not alone, and so that worked out OK also. There are 2 chips in the inside of the base to the shower, but otherwise the room was decent. We appreciated you fulfilling the request of extra towels and late check out. Definitely not a mountain view room based on the fact that the building is surrounded by buildings taller than itself (LOL) but I appreciate the gesture. I closed my eyes and just knew that the mountains were somewhere out there despite the false...
Read moreWe stayed here for two nights on the tail end of a Colorado vacation; all we were expecting was a decent place to sleep after camping for a few days, not a super nice luxury Hilton experience. However, the Slate did not even deliver a clean bed.
We arrived later in the evening. First things first, these rooms are MINISCULE. The standard room has almost no space to maneuver. We did not have enough space to even open two suitcases on the ground without tripping over each other. The rooms were well appointed, but TINY, which is crazy in a sprawling city like Denver where space really is not at a premium.
Clearly no attention had been paid to the bedspread. There was NO fitted sheet on the bed, only a mattress protector with a light yellow stain. They also ddid not have a duvet cover, just a bare duvet in between two sheets. We attempted to call the front desk, but the room phone was not working, so I called on my cell. They said that cleaning staff were not in this late (fine) and sent a guy up to look at the bed. They also said "this is just how we make our beds, which seemed pretty unlikely when there was a stained bare mattress protector on the bed. The guy they sent up brought us a new mattress protector and new sheets (one of which had a bloodstain on it and had to be sent back...reassuring) and we had the privilege of making the bed ourselves with this random assortment of sheets. He could not find a duvet cover so gave us a random fuzzy blanket which at least seemed clean? Despite all of these issues and asking the front desk, nobody followed up on these issues and nobody came to clean the room or change the sheets in the morning for the next night, but at that point it was not worth fighting any more.
On top of this negative experience, the Slate's valet was also ridiculous. To be fair, overnight covered parking in Denver is on the expensive side (for reasons that are not entirely clear), but the Slate had some of the highest valet prices in the immediate area. They also do not offer self-park. After paying something like $54-58 a night for the valet, the one time we actually needed the car (to drive to the airport at 5am), the guy was nowhere to be found. We texted and called the provided number and eventually had to ask the front desk to look for him. 20 minutes later, he climbed out of a random car (clearly had been sleeping) and got our car. If you are going to force us to use a valet and pay a boatload for it, the least you could do it provide good service.
I emailed Hilton about these issues and have not heard back now in nearly two weeks now. In the meantime, I would steer clear of the Slate hotel. There are, frankly, an insane number of hotel options in the downtown area where you won't be packed in a tiny room like sardines, receive better service, and have better, more reasonably priced...
Read moreOverall, not a bad place to stay but certainly this new Hilton hotel (approx two years old) is a bit far from Union Station, however relatively close to the Convention Center.
Gold/Diamond room upgrades simply do not happen here. I booked several weeks out and was expecting the auto Hilton upgrade email but didn’t hear anything. I reached out via phone and app a day prior and the morning of check-in and was told any upgrades would take place at check-in. Weird, because every other Hilton property I’ve stayed at, they are automatically confirmed based on availability.
Upon check-in, I asked again about a room upgrade having seen that there were tons of paid options, including a King Corner Room, King Mountain View Corner and a 1 Bedroom King Suite. Apparently the woman who I had spoken with earlier in the morning recognized my name and essentially barked at me and made me feel like I was being disciplined.
I wasn’t asking for much, I just saw lots of paid upgrade options that I figured one would be available. I was then told that the King bed room that I reserved was given away and was moved to a 2 Queen Bed Room. I was a little irritated as they waited until check-in, and I was seconds away from just walking from the Slate to another Hilton.
Ended up taking the 2 Queen Bed Room, which was fine, though I really would have preferred keeping my original booking. No compensation or credits offered. Front Desk Staff acted like they were doing me a favor.
The rooms are well appointed given that this is a two year old property. The decor, finishes and furniture are relatively nice with little to no damage. Bathroom seemed clean and well stocked with good soaps and bath products.
Beds were comfortable, clean and no sign of bed bugs from what I could tell. AC functioned well and kept the room cool. TV in my room kept glitching but couldn’t figure out why. They sent someone to my room who tried to reset things but it didn’t work. I let it go.
The restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Service is quite good, however the menu for breakfast was so lacking and lame. Literally four menu choices (A Denver omelette, Traditional 2 Egg Breakfast, Avocado Toast and a breakfast sandwich). I wish there was something more than just that, like a French Toast, Pancakes etc.
The fruit salad ($5) and Orange Juice ($5) came right out of the Sysco truck. Was bummed to see no local breads, eggs or anything Denver related. After a 3 night stay, the menu got pretty boring. Would have liked to see Croissants, bagels etc. The sourdough bread they served, it too, came off the Sysco truck.
I was able to use my $15 dining credit each day which was nice. Outside of being denied the room upgrade and meager breakfast offerings, I would consider coming back. Some work to be done here.
5 stars to...
