Disappointing is the nicest way I can put it. I never post bad reviews but this situation was so incredibly awful.
-My sister (the bride) made a reservation at the Colcord (months in advance) to have a suite for the day so she and her bridal party could get ready (hair, makeup, etc). The staff member states this is done all the time and that she will book it but notes the reservation may look odd at first glance because they have to enter it in a specific way since we really only need it from 11:30-4pm. -My sister calls the hotel the day before to confirm that everything is set. To her horror, no suite is available. It seems they are overbooked and have entered the reservation incorrectly. -They said they can have 2 adjoining rooms (not enough space to get ready) or we can get the presidential but it'll cost us an additional up charge (upwards of $500 in addition to the suite cost). A manager tells us to call in the morning to see if any of the suites check out early and that regardless they will figure out a solution. -We call in the morning. No one checks out early. And there is no manager on site and no one can get in contact with him (or so we are told). Our only option is to pay for the presidential. We tell the staff that this is not acceptable as the fault was with the hotel (please note, multiple members of the staff admit fault). It seems like they want to help but it's not in their jurisdiction to upgrade and the Manager is MIA and has been for many hours. They say I can speak with him when he arrives at 12 (which will not work since we need to get everyone ready before that). -Time is of the essence since this is a wedding...and people need to know where to go. Members of the bridal party offer to pay the charge to put the bride and groom at ease. -The staff seems to feel remorse and tells us that valet parking will be covered for our troubles. They also offer to reduce a bit of the up charge (by $50) and go on to say that management will chew them out for even doing that. -Many hours go by and we finally get to enjoy the festivities. Until...management arrives and wants to talk to us about valet parking...and how it will not be covered. He wants to discuss this as the bride is getting her hair done to leave for the ceremony in 2 hours. -I want to make it very clear that we did not ask for valet parking to be covered and would have been fine paying it. I also discussed the number of vehicles that would be overnight vs those that would be around for more than 2 hours but not overnight with staff on two different occasions. -Just to add additional color, when my husband went to get our car from the valet and said the room number, the valet tossed his keys at him and said "it's parked on the street." Again, no one asked for free valet parking and I feel like we were getting punished for all of these miscommunications.
This whole situation was absurd especially given that this was someone's wedding day. Looking at Colcord's instagram it looks like many people have weddings here so I'm surprised by the lack of service and miscommunication. Given their high star rating it seems like we are an outlier and I'm sure they normally provide a very good hotel experience but I needed to tell our story because it very much set the tone for the rest of the wedding. My sister started her wedding day crying in their hotel lobby.
I should also note that my sister recommended this hotel for the bridal party and guests. Many of them also spoke to management about this situation as they checked out.
My husband and I are frequent travelers and stay at hotels like this often. In these situations we have always gotten an upgrade if there is one available, especially if the hotel is overbooked or has made a booking mistake. Also, we only needed the room from 11:30-4 so they could have flipped that room and booked it for that night.
All in all a really horrible experience. This may be an outlier, but we will not be staying at this hotel again along with many of the bridal...
Read moreIf you are looking for a beautiful hotel with great food and extraordinarily bad service, look no further. The Colcord is a beautiful old building restored to provide some very nice hotel rooms and amenities. They are big spacious rooms with comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. There is a restaurant downstairs that has really good food. The food is not cheap but I think it is appropriately priced. The one thing that really stands out at this hotel was the abysmal service. If it is possible to be the best at being the worst--Colcord wins that award for service. From the time we arrived, until our car was lost by the valet at checkout, we were constantly surprised by terrible service. On our arrival, we went to the bar to have a drink. This was our best service experience. We were waited on occasionally and when we asked about wines were told, "I don't know. I have see people drink different wines but I do not know what is good and not." That was our best experience. The next morning, at breakfast, we seemed to be more of an annoyance than a customer. We received service from 4 different people. Each one seemed to be in too big of a hurry to get us our very onerous requests like ketchup or more coffee. Breakfast took about twice as long as it should. The food, however, was good. After breakfast we went back to our room and our toilet was broken. Now, I must point out, this was not your normal toilet. This was a toilet that seemed to have a countdown associated with it. It was a toilet that when you pushed the handle to flush it, it was more like a launch button. The noise, pressure, and authority by which this toilet flushed made me concerned that I, the bathroom, and the whole hotel would be sucked into the toilet like a sewage black hole. But, after breakfast, alas, no alarming flush. Nothing. We called the front desk to let them know and they said they would fix it. We left for the day and on our way back, 7 hours later, we called to make sure our room was ready and were assured that it was. When we got to our room, it was not fixed. The only good service was the night front desk guy who tried to help. When he was unable, we were moved to a smaller, less nice, room. On our last day there, we had decided we just wanted out and were going to spend no more money to get treated this way. We called and requested our complimentary coffee and tea. This was also another shining example of great service. When we called to see if we could get our complimentary coffee and tea, the front desk very abruptly asked, "What do you want?" When our coffee and tea arrived. It was all tea. FINALLY, we were ready to go. We dropped off our valet ticket, and the Colcord must have decided that this valet experience would be their glorious coup de grâce. After waiting 30 minutes for our car, we were told that it was very busy ignoring the fact we had sat there and watched 10 people come after and leave before us. After we started talking to everyone, we were told our keys were lost and also our car. After 40 minutes of waiting, we finally got our car and were able to leave. So, in conclusion, if your goal is to have a comically bad service...
Read moreTo say my stay here was a disappointment would be an understatement. I would list all of my grievances, but I personally don't have the time. I stay in all kinds of hotels, different tiers, ratings, ect. And I promise this is not hyperbole when I state I have had better service at Days Inn. But the two things that perturbed me the most are, the room service , and the front "help" desk. The issue with the room service is a simple one. i was very busy while in Ok, so it was easier to do room service during my stay. I always tip well because I spent some time in the service industry, and I know the job can be demanding at times. I always leave 20 to 25 percent without exception. My last evening there, I was getting ready to write on the tip line, and I noticed a "service charge" in particular small writing. I asked the gentleman " is this gratuity"? He answered, "yes this is 18% that we add automatically". Needless to say , I found this rather unsettling. This was never pointed out to me. And I find it extremely disingenuous. The next morning I ordered breakfast before leaving out. When the lady came to the door, I asked her " is this charge gratuity "? She responded, " no sir that all goes to the hotel. We do NOT receive any that money". A completely different response form the former person. I added it up, and the amount of extra gratuity this hotel scammed from me was not a small amount. I would think that any hotel would not engadge in such deceptive practices , but especially a hotel of this caliper. This leads me to my other grievance, the "help" desk. I had not been able to charge my phone , and I needed to secure a ride . I called to the front desk to ask if they had a shuttle service, or any transportation. The lady on the phone explained " sorry , unfortunately we do not". No offer whatsoever to help me secure a cab or an Uber. She could not wait to get off the phone. This underlying apathy seemed to be the pervasive tone with the staff. You can tell when people really want to help you, or are just hanging out. This brings me to my final point. I was curious when I checked out if someone would ask me how my stay was. I really wanted to convey it to someone. What I got was more apathy. So I asked who the manager was and could they please write it down. The lady handed me a card and said, Brandy is our operations manager. I kind of assumed that at this point the lady at the desk would have asked " is everything OK sir"? " Is there something I can help you with"? But nothing. I own 3 businesses and am in the process of starting a 4th. I will not be staying here ever again, nor will any of my employees. This totals in 1000's of dollars for this establishment. I will and can not fully blame the staff, because this stuff percolates from the top. Had anyone taken me seriously, or the lady shown at least some semblance of caring at the front desk when I was checking out, I would have not put this review up. In conclusion, there are many other fine hotels on downtown OKLAHOMA City. I strongly suggest you bring your money to these establishments. Thank you...
