Their shop is great and they carry many of the cheeses we loved from our years living in England. Definitely go there in person, try their cheeses, buy lots and enjoy.
I do not recommend ordering online from them. Maybe it's this COVID-19 thing messing up the logistics chain, but it took 4-5 days for a box of cheeses we ordered to arrive at our home, and we live just under two hours away. Yes, we could have driven there, but since we were trying to observe the "stay at home" order, we decided to order $54 worth of cheese online on April 26th. They advertise "2 Day Shipping" for $9 with FedEx, so we expected everything to be fine. That wasn't the case. The package arrived on April 30th and the single, small "ice pack" was just water at that point. I contacted John, the owner, who was very polite and understanding. He ended up re-sending the order at no charge on Friday, May 1st and we waited again for it to arrive, but it didn't arrive until Tuesday morning, May 5th. Again, the ice pack was completely melted and the contents of the box were not cool at all. I can't imagine what condition the cheese would be in had I ordered in July or August when it's close to 100°F. Both times it was the USPS that delivered, and the shipping labels were USPS, not FedEX. Hopefully they can get their shipping sorted, but I won't be ordering from them ever again. It's just too much money to spend on something perishable that doesn't show up in an...
Read moreThese guys were fantastic! I’m quite a cheesehead and the selection here is just wonderful. The gentleman attendants were able to direct me to around TEN NEW cheeses to try based on my preferences (and I could have tried many more had I the time!) and I purchased seven of them to take home.
Because it was such a hot day, I was able to purchase them and then swing by later to pick them up on our way home to the hotel so they were still fresh and cold.
There was no sales pressure from the staff; I found only the same delight and knowledge I share about the taste, history and manufacturing processes of the different cheeses they stocked. I was truly impressed with Nick & the guys as they were all very young but showed a lot of enthusiasm for their jobs and had great customer service skills.
This was such a fun, interesting and delightful stop that led to many delicious charcuterie meals at Leavenworth and beyond! Thanks so much, y’all!
Be aware that this shop has some very steep wooden (If I remember right?) stairs into a basement and even support dogs are not allowed down in this store-for obvious reasons. It’s a smaller space and there are no windows down there so it’s not really for those who may start to feel claustrophobic with no windows and only one...
Read moreThe cheese in fantastic and the service is EXCEPTIONAL! They will go above and beyond to make the customer happy and are always polite and professional. Generally when I walk in and young people are running a business, it really shows and one gets the feeling they don't want to be there and could care less about you (it's natural, I'm sure I was the same as a young person. Come to think of it, in America today, almost everyone of all ages is that way. Manners are dead). Completely the opposite here!! I don't know if it's the managerial training or if only absolutely extraordinary people are hired (probably both), but the Cheesemonger's staff is very knowledgeable - AND - courteous. I placed an on-line order (because of CoVid) and they drove to my house and delivered it! I'm not asking for that service, I don't deserve that service, but I was FLOORED!! Who does more than they have to anymore? And the cheese is SO good! I tried the Igourmet on line and it was not good at all (and more expensive), never again. My chef friend loves the cheese at...
