I just moved into The Pepper Building the very beginning of June and have had a really wonderful experience.
Prior to moving I worked with Naté Rogers to find a good fit. I actually accidently requested information on a two-bedroom apartment (though I live alone) and she was the one who told me about The Pepper and that she thought there may be a space that I would love here. She was super honest with me about my options and prior to my move in was always readily available to answer my calls or emails. She really took the time to go through everything with me. She is clearly a really hard worker who truly cares about finding others a place where can feel at home.
I never had the opportunity to see my exact apartment until move-in day, so I was a bit nervous, but when I arrived the space far exceeded my expectations. I have never lived in a big city before and am living on my own without knowing anyone in the area, so I have been so glad for how kind everyone in the building has been. On move-in day the concierge was super understanding and they allowed me to schedule to use the elevator to strictly go up and down to my floor while I moved in all of my stuff. I have a dog and a cat, and the building is exceptionally pet friendly, yet I have yet to hear a single other dog barking when I am in my apartment. Likewise, I don’t hear anything from the apartments on either side of me through the walls.
There have been small favors that have brightened my days here, for example one of the maintenance crew members went above and beyond to help me with all of my recycling and breaking down my numerous boxed after I unpacked though I was going to do it myself and it certainly wasn’t his responsibility. The maintenance guys have been super great about allowing me to borrow their ladder on 3 different occasions and promptly checked things out for me (I killed the microwave and they got me a new one and installed it super quickly).
The apartment has tall ceilings and large windows to allow for ample natural light. The location seems pretty wonderful. My job is right next to the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP) and it is only a 25 minute walk or an 8 minute bike ride to work - plus the bus stop is right in front of the building and there is an Indego bike rental rack next door. I have been walking my dog every morning down to the Schuylkill River dog park which is only about a 10-15 minute walk from here and he has loved making friends there. At the dog park they have separate areas for large and smaller dogs so he can run off leash with dogs of a similar size.
I know that no place is perfect, but I have had a really great experience here so far. This is the fourth apartment building that I have lived in and thus far it has been the best experience I’ve had. I feel safe and all of the staff have been kind and willing to help. The location is close to pretty much anything I could need, and my apartment is really beautiful and spacious with ample natural light.
I am not usually one to write reviews but in the age of the coronavirus I thought it was important to pass along my experience to others looking to find a new residence when it isn’t always possible to visit. I was super overwhelmed by all of the options and finding a place when moving to an unfamiliar city but I am really glad I ended up at The Pepper.
PS- I was reading some of the older reviews and I can say that the elevators seem to work great and my maintenance requests and emails have all been very promptly...
Read moreThe Pepper Building started out fantastic when it was managed under Buzzuto. Once it was sold to a new management company, everything went down Hill. They claimed they'd "Fix" the elevator situation by installing "Brand New" elevators. They didn't seem brand new. They were constantly breaking down, slow, and skipped floors. So its basically a nice walk-up most of the time. If the elevators work, usually it will take about 10 minutes to get down to the lobby of back up to my floor.
The management decided to do all these unnecessary repairs, which look ugly and cheap, probably intended to look nice. Then They decided to raise they rent at least $400 more on the lease to longtime tenants. The new management is disappointing in a "Luxury" building.
They will usually ignore your emails. They have ignored the grounds by letting weeds and dead trees sit around. There will usually be creepy people hanging on the property from the hospital next door. During the summer the AC broke, tenants were not notified by management until hours later when it occurred.
For what they are charging for these units if not worth the money. The building looks nice when you walk in the building at first, but looks are deceiving. New maintenance staff isn't nearly as good under Buzzuto. They aren't as professional, some are creepy. The trash was cleared every day back with Buzzuto, now it seems like every other day. You pay for a 24 hour desk person. There are plenty of times during the day and night when there are nobody at the desk. If you have noisy neighbors, ignoring the noise rule written on the lease, you will have to live with it. If you complain, nothing is resolved. Most people who have lived at The Pepper Building have had it with all the problems so they have moved...
Read more1.high rents considering the location . You can find apartments much closer to ritten house for these rents Slow elevators , very slow They will purposefully lie about parking situation . You won’t get parking for a year in building and surrounding private garages are full too .I pay 400 for parking and park half a mile away No garbage disposal in kitchen sink , get ready to use your hand if you cook Old minimal equipment in gym .
