Overpriced, Misleading, and Poorly Managed
This gym presents itself as an upscale executive club, but my experience was the opposite. Equipment is stored in laundry baskets, machine upholstery is torn (scratching skin and clothes), and the mats are dirty and worn. No fitness classes are offered — surprising given the premium price tag.
The facility is located in a basement, and access depends on elevators that are frequently broken. One elevator behaves unpredictably, and I was once trapped in it for over an hour. That alone prompted me to write this review — but things only got worse.
After posting my initial feedback, one of the owners called me. Rather than apologizing or trying to understand my perspective, he was dismissive and rude. He said the elevators weren’t their problem since they rent the space and told me, “Do me a favor, dude, go away and don’t come back.” When I later attempted to return to the gym (because it’s conveniently located just a few minutes from my home), I discovered my membership had been canceled — apparently in retaliation for my review.
This kind of customer treatment is not just unprofessional, it’s alarming. Still, don’t take my word for it — I encourage anyone curious to visit and see for themselves. You will probably be the only one there. There’s a reason people don’t stick around. Give it a try and you will see...
Read moreBest gym in SLC: never crowded, clean, towel service. HOWEVER, you need to live close by, as they only validate parking for 90 minutes, which is not enough time for a warmup, workout and a shower. I have a dozen or so friends that said they would join if they extended validation for 2 hours. 90 minutes is a deal breaker for everyone I’ve talked to that’s not within walking/biking/public transportation distance (however, I suppose it keeps the gym empty, but a really weird business practice from a cost-benefit analysis standpoint).
The other negative is that people leave weights on the machines far too often. The gym should put up signs to re-rack weights and some employees should walk around and look for weights to re-rack like every other gym I’ve been to throughout my life. For the price I’m paying, it would be nice if I didn’t have to take weights off a machine every time before I used it.
Negatives aside, and ONLY if you live walking / biking distance, it’s a no brainer if you’re a dedicated gym...
Read moreI joined The GYM this week to get away from the insane crowds at EoS. This is a great gym! It’s clean and spacious and never crowded. It has all the equipment you’d ever need and free fresh towels offered at the front desk. I’m super happy I signed up.
But, there are two reasons I can’t give it 5 stars.
First is the parking. There’s plenty of parking, but you’re limited to 1.5 hours for free (w/ validation). That’s usually sufficient, but I have had to rush a few times. Signs in the parking garage say there’s a maximum 2 hour parking limit, so it seems weird that we can’t just get 2 hours for free.
Second is the organization. I can’t figure out how it was decided to place machines in certain locations or directions. It makes no sense and my OCD desperately wants to rearrange the place.
Overall a great gym and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a smaller crowd in a...
